Matthew Hatton was “lost for words” after getting a rapturous reception from the McCoy’s Premier League Darts crowd in his hometown of Manchester on Thursday night.
With just over a month to go until Hatton crosses the Pennines to face Kell Brook at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on March 17 live on Sky Sports, Hatton raised the curtain on the Premier League season at the Manchester Arena on Thursday night (February 9) with a walk-on in front of over 8,000 adoring fans.
The 30 year-old self-confessed Darts nut then sat back and watched eight of the PDC’s biggest stars battle it out in the first week of 14 in front of packed arenas across the UK. Hatton was joined in the crowd by Matchroom Sport’s latest signing Scott Cardle along with Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart – and the fighting pride of Manchester loved every minute of it.
“That was a fantastic experience and it’s great to know that Manchester is right behind me,” said Hatton. “As much as the fight is about the bigger picture in the World welterweight scene, I’m a proud Mancunian and Kell is Sheffield through and through so cross-county bragging rights mean a lot.
“I’m pretty lost for words though with the reception I got. I love the darts and I always got to Blackpool for the World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens and the atmosphere is amazing. Getting to do a walk-on to the stage where the likes of Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld strut their stuff was fantastic – a real buzz. I moved my sparring forward a couple of hours so I could make it in time and I’m glad I did!”
Tickets for Kell Brook vs. Matthew Hatton plus a full championship undercard are available priced £30, £60 and £100 (both limited availability) from the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield Box Office on 0114 256 5656 and at www.motorpointarenasheffield. co.uk.
£40 tickets and £150 VIP tickets have now sold-out.
