Ash Lane is ready and raring to go ahead of the first six round fight of his career against Michael Ramabeletsa on Saturday night on the high profile Tyson Fury undercard at Clevedon’s Hand Arena.
The promising Northampton pugilist has been unfortunate with several fights being called off at the last minute recently.
But he has now been handed the opportunity to box on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s fight against Vinny Maddalone, which is being broadcast live on Channel 5.
Lane (2-1-2) is coming off of a points victory against crafty veteran Delroy Spencer over four rounds back in March, and now feels ready to step up the number of rounds.
“I'm really looking forward to my first six-rounder,” he said. “I'm always fit but this is the fittest I've been.
“My boxing is coming along, I'm throwing my punches with a lot more flow and accuracy, and I'm thinking myself around the ring a lot better now.
“I can't wait to show everyone what I'm about.”
Bristol-based South African Ramabeletsa (7(4)-8) has proved to be a tough competitor in the past, with his only stoppage defeat being two years ago.
The 30-year-old also halted Ross Burkinshaw in the fifth round of his last fight back in April, but Lane is in a confident mood ahead of this latest test.
He said: “I've heard his name a few times and I've only seen one fight on YouTube against Josh Wale, and he was standing toe-to-toe with him.
“Michael Ramabeletsa looks tough - that's what he is, strong and tough - but I don't see anything unique standing out that I need to be worried about.
“He throws big hooks as he comes in, but I'm not really that scared.
“I know it will be a tough fight, but I know that if I go in with the right game plan and the right frame of mind then I can box my way to a nice six round points decision.”
Lane is looking to increase the number of rounds he is boxing over ahead of a potential Midlands Area or Masters title fight later this year, as well as aiming to impress against Ramabeletsa.
He added: “I'm confident going in with anyone because I know I'm a prospect and that I'm good enough to fight for titles.
“Whether that's in six months or in a year or two, I know I'm good enough to win a British title in the end.
“Even if you lose, it's a learning fight and every fight you have you learn. That's a stepping stone to your dreams coming true and my dream is to win the British title.”
Lane is trained by his former amateur coach John Daly, who also competed as a pro boxer, and his professional camp is based up in Wednesbury, under the stewardship of Errol Johnson and Bob Plant.
Mick Hennessy (Hennessy Sports) and Jamie Sanigar promote the show on Friday, July 7 in the Hand Arena, Clevedon, Somerset.
