Bryce Hammond CSUB wrestler Bryce Hammond (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) has been selected as CSUB's Student Athlete of the Week for the week of March 4. Hammond is 33-8 for the 'Runners this season. Hammond joins fellow wrestler Tyler Iwamura (R-Sr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS) as the only two CSUB wrestlers to be crowned champions at the Pac-12 tournament this past week in Tempe, Ariz. Hammond was 3-0 in tournament action and defeated the No. 1 seed Blake Stauffer 9-4 in the finals for the 174-pound weight class. Mike Mendoza CSU Bakersfield crowned two individual champions, the program's first since 2010, at the 2013 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships Saturday in Tempe, Ariz. Tyler Iwamura (R-Sr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS), the No. 1 seed at 125 pounds reached the finals by defeating Britain Longmire of Cal Poly 10-0 in the semis. The finals saw Iwamura take on Stanford's Evan Silver for the third time this season and for the third time Iwamura defeated Silver (6-2). Iwamura earned the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division I National Championships. Greg Randall George Ivanov took home the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award as the Boise State wrestling team took second at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships, Saturday. The Broncos finished with 136.5 points while Oregon State tallied 158. Ivanov was one of three Boise State champions, joining Jason Chamberlain and Jake Swartz at the top of the podium. It was a short trip for Ivanov, the 18th ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, who received a first-round bye before defeating Adam Fierro in the semifinal. He advanced to the finals where he faced No. 9 RJ Pena of Oregon State. Ivanov pulled out a 3-2 decision after trailing 2-1 heading into the final period.
