Video: Takedown the Guy Who Grabs Your Lapels
In traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, most class time, if not all, is spent on ground techniques. Today many BJJ students have pretty advanced guards. But how about their standup? Unfortunately, when these students get to a tournament or start sparring, they find out quickly their standup games are sorely lacking.
In this video, Jimmy Pedro (The Greatest American Judo Player ever and the current US Olympic coach) and Travis Stevens (The best male Judo competitor in the US and also a world-class BJJ player) show how to handle the most common grip in BJJ.
If you want to see if Judo works in a BJJ competition, check out this quick Instagram video from the Copa Podio Tournament in Brazil on September 9, 2013, where Travis Stevens gives a world-class BJJ Black Belt, Felipe Pregucia, some frequent flyer miles.
