Salita and Star of David Promotions Congratulates Lorick and Honig for Ring 8 Honors

Brooklyn, NY (December 12, 2014)--
Star of David Promotions is proud to applaud our friends Nirmal Lorick and Dave "Scooter" Honig on winning Trainer of the Year and Conditioning Coach of the Year as voted by Ring 8, the venerable veteran's boxer organization.

Lorick and Honig will received their hard-earned honors on Sunday, Dec. 8, during Ring 8's annual year end gala.

Star of David head Dmitriy Salita is not shy in praising both men, who he has come to revere as leaders on the local boxing scene, and role models as people, period.

"I met Nirmal when I joined Starrett City Boxing Club in 1995," recalled Salita, now making his mark as a promoter. "He has helped me from the beginning and trained me for many of my fights as a pro.  We shared many incredible times together!"

Lorick was one of the first students under the late, great Jimmy O'Pharrow, who opened up Starrett City in 1978, Salita recalls. As for Honig, known to most all as "Scooter," Salita met him in 2000, before he won the NY Golden Gloves.

"'Scooter is one of the best conditioning trainers in the world," said Salita, who holds a 35-2-1record as a professional, and is contemplating another return to the ring in the first half of 2015. "He's trained many world champs and top contenders, and was one of the first people I knew to introduce the sound nutritional concepts which are now used by so many athletes."

Salita notes that he is so proud to see Jimmy's grandson Qwani O'Pharrow running Starrett City, in East New York, which is again home to so many successful and promising professional and amateur pugilists in the NYC area.

Aside from teaching the fine art of the sweet science, Salita said that both men are able to teach life skills which are so useful to the young people who come to the gym, to learn the craft of fighting, and leave with a newfound understanding of how to succeed in life.

"It's an honor for me to call both Scooter and Nirmal close friends," Salita said, "and our friendship goes outside the boxing gym.  They are both very different but great people that know their job extremely well. Congratulations to both on a job well done and I think this is just one step in a great and illustrious journey of two incredible trainers that are a credit to the sport of boxing, and society as a whole."
