Two UFC Veterans and Two Maine State Title Fights to Headline Next New England Fights! Event on May 18 in Lewiston

Lewiston, Maine (March 22, 2013) -- Just minutes after the conclusion of its co-promotion with Bellator in Lewiston, New England Fights! (NEF) executives officially announced its next event scheduled for May 18, 2013 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

In the main event of that card, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran and Bangor, Maine native, Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis (21-9) will take on New York's Darrius Heyliger (4-1) in a welterweight showdown.  Davis is the founder of Team Irish, a Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) breeding ground for competitors with locations in both Bangor and Portland.  Over the course of his illustrious MMA career, Davis has competed in the cage against the likes of such high-profile talent as Dan Hardy, Pete Spratt, Chris Lytle and Melvin Guillard, just to name a few.

"It's a real honor to have Marcus Davis competing for us," said NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo.  "He's one of the true trailblazers in the sport.  He put Maine MMA on the map."

Fresh off an appearance for Bellator, the legendary Davis looks to finish Heyliger before Davis's home crowd, a task that has proven easier-said-than-done for previous Mainers.  Heyliger, based out of Ryan Ciotoli's much-feared Team Bombsquad in Ithaca, NY, has traveled to the Pine Tree State on two previous occasions, first downing Jarrod Lawton (2-1) last April at an NEF event in Biddeford, and then Josh Bellows six months later in Lewiston.  Those victories have earned Heyliger quite a bit of respect from the Maine MMA fans.

"Darrius is one of those out-of-town guys that we get a ton of requests from fans to see again and again," said NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson.  "His fight with Jarrod Lawton last spring was one of the most brutal encounters we've ever had in the NEF cage.  This fight with Marcus Davis promises much of the same."

In the evening's co-main event, Jamie Harrison (4-1) will meet another veteran of the UFC cage in the form of Henry Martinez (9-5) to determine the first-ever Maine State Lightweight Champion. Harrison earned the right to challenge for the title with an impressive four-fight win-streak in 2012 for NEF.  Capturing the title before his home crowd, however, will prove no easy task for the innovator of the "Lobster Punch."  Martinez is a seven-year-plus veteran of the sport looking for redemption after his impromptu release from the UFC just a few weeks back.

Another title fight on May 18 in Lewiston will see the first Maine State Heavyweight king crowned as Randy "The Wolf" Smith (14-13-1) of Cortland, NY returns to NEF to face Travis "The Showstopper" Bartlett (8-3).  Bartlett, a native of Dexter, has spent the last several years in Las Vegas where he has gained a reputation as a sought-after sparring partner of UFC standouts like Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva and Frank Mir.

Springfield, Missouri (USA): ShoFIGHT, one of the rising MMA promotions in the Midwest, has finalized its fight card for this Saturday’s ShoFIGHT 20 event. Taking place at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Missouri, the event will feature twenty veterans of the UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, WEC, and PRIDE, including Kendall Grove, Karo Parisyan, Lyle Beerbohm, Marcus Aurelio, and many others.

The main event features Karo “The Heat” Parisyan (20-8-0-1) in a welterweight title fight with fellow UFC vet John “Guns” Gunderson (33-13-2). Also showcased is for Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove (14-10) as he battles new opponent in undefeated Strikeforce fighter Derek Brunson (9-0). Terry Martin, Grove’s original opponent, was pulled from the event due to licensing issues.

Karo Parisyan (20-8-0-1) has been fighting professionally since 1999, and has faced many top welterweights during his time in MMA, including Sean Sherk, Antonio McKee, Georges St-Pierre, Shonie Carter, Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle, Matt Serra, Nick Thompson, Diego Sanchez, Ryo Chonan, Thiago Alves, Dong Hyun Kim, and Dennis Hallman. Few in the fight game can boast such a resume. At one point, he was right on the cusp of a UFC title shot, but after some tough losses, he is looking to right the ship and get back to the top of the mountain. Fighting in the main event of ShoFIGHT 20 provides “The Heat” with the opportunity to do just that.

Kendall Grove (14-10-0-1) grew up in Hawaii, and is the prototypical Island boy: a scrapper who is afraid of no man. The 6’6” middleweight made his pro debut in 2003, and soared to heights few reach in the fight game when he won the 3^rd season of the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter competition. Over the next few years, Grove became a mainstay in the UFC, gathering victories over Ed Herman, Alan Belcher, the late Evan Tanner, Jason Day, Jake Rosholt, and Goran Reljic during his time with the promotion. However, he also suffered several setbacks, and was released in 2011 after two straight losses. Since that time, he has downed both Joe Riggs and Ikuhisa Minowa, but then lost to fellow UFC vet Jay Silva in February. Now, he’ll look to get back in the win column with ShoFIGHT gold on the line.

UFC VETS KARO PARISYAN AND KENDALL GROVE LOOK TO REBOUND AT SHOFIGHT 20

100 Percent Clean sponsors Free MMA Seminar put on by UFC Star Chris Lytle

The seminar will be held at Huntington Beach Ultimate Training Center in Huntington Beach, CA, on Sunday, May 27^th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  The purpose of the seminar will be to educate people about the dangers of steroids and performance enhancing drugs; in addition to helping them develop and learn new techniques in MMA.   Also, 100 Percent Clean will be giving any and all donations to the Taylor Hooton Foundation (www.taylorhooton.org), which is committed to educating everyone, youth and adults alike, about the life-threatening dangers of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs (APEDs).
