FLOYD MAYWEATHER TALKS FUTURE

Unbeaten boxing superstar and perennial pound-for-pound kingpin, Floyd "Money" Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) broke his silence and called out Manny Pacquiao during an interview on SHOWTIME® during Friday's SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION telecast from San Antonio.

Speaking publicly for the first time in many weeks, Mayweather was interviewed by SHOWTIME expert analyst and boxing historian Steve Farhood

See below for highlights from the interview and click here to watch highlights from the interview on YouTube: http://s.sho.com/1z3O7LI

"Absolutely, I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao, we're trying to make the fight happen. Years ago we had problems with random blood and urine testing. I just want to have an even playing field.

"Now he's in a very, very tight situation with his loss to (Juan Manuel) Marquez and his loss to (Timothy) Bradley.  His pay-per-view numbers are extremely low, so he's desperate. I've wanted that fight a long time ago.

"I'm just waiting on him; we have to make the fight happen on SHOWTIME PPV because SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is No. 1 and will remain number one.

"Absolutely, Floyd Mayweather is not ducking or dodging any opponent. Bob Arum is stopping the fight.  We have been trying to make the fight happen, behind the scenes, for years now. The fans and the people have been fooled because they have been listening to people on just one side. Now it's time for us to talk, we want to fight.  Let's make it happen. May 2, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, let's do it.

"It's a little bit of everything that makes me want this fight because he's not on my level. The fans would love to see the fight and of course I want to go out with a bang. So let's make this fight happen.

"Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum, you guys have been ducking us for years. We're tired of you guys fooling the public, fooling the critics. Before we tried to make the fight happen and you guys didn't want to take random blood and urine testing. So that's why the fight didn't happen. Then I offered you $40 million and you didn't want to make the fight happen. Then you lost twice and now you're coming back begging for the same money. That's not going to happen.

Let's make this fight for the people, for the fans. Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao May 2, Cinco de Mayweather."

Battle Claims he is Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather rolled into one

It is only five days until the Goodwin Promotions “It’s Go Time” show to be shown live on Matchroom Fight Pass and the war of words is heating up between Adam Battle and Johnny Garton who co-deadline the 11 fight card.
Battle and Garton compete for the vacant Southern Area Welterweight title and outspoken Battle is super confident ahead of the title fight.
“Johnny Garton is one dimensional. I hit harder than Mike Tyson and counter punch like Floyd Mayweather”. Battle continued “I was due to fight Ahmet Patterson for this title earlier this year and Garton is much easier. I will win this fight no problem”
Garton was more reserved “I believe I can win this fight. I want 50/50 fights and now my manager/promoter has delivered me one. My training has gone perfect along side Alan Smith and I will be at my best this Saturday.
Watch the interviews in full here:
In the co main event An exciting clash for the vacant Southern Area Super-Featherweight title sees “Saint” George Jupp (10-2) take on Craig Poxton (8-2). This is a real 50/50 fight and one to savour.
The undefeated Rakeem “The Noble” Ashaye has his first title fight when he takes on Lewis O’Mara from  Portsmouth for the British Masters Bronze Light-Welterweight title.
The show sees the return of former two time Southern Area challenger Ryan “Crash Bang” Taylor after a year out of the ring. This exciting young fighter moves up to Welterweight for a 6 round International contest.
Three exciting Cruiserweights appear. Jose “The Look” Lopes trained by Don Charles has his second paid contest after looking really impressive on his debut. Jose has a real grudge match against last time out winner John Weeks from Portsmouth.
Former K1 Champion Adam Hart makes his debut as a professional boxer in a contest against Dimitar Spaiski.
Finally “The General” Aji Sharif has won all three contests and has his fourth paid outing. He takes on the 6 foor 9 Giant Imantas Davidaitis from Lithuania.

Antonio Tarver, Jr. making pro debut Sept. 29 on card headlined by his father Antonio 'Magic Man' Tarver

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

MIAMI (September 17, 2014) - A boxing rarity will happen September 29 when Antonio Tarver, Jr. makes his professional debut on the same card his father, 5-time world light heavyweight champion and 1996 U.S. Olympian Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver (30-6, 21 KOs), is headlining in a 10-round heavyweight bout against veteran Johnathon Banks (29-2-1, 19 KOs).

Tarver-Banks is the main event on a Golden Boy Promotions show, airing live on Fox Sports 1 from State Farm Arena in Hildalgo, Texas. Tarver, Jr. will face Zachary Briones (1-1, 1 KO), of Austin (TX), in a four-round, off-television bout.

"This is a blessing," the 26-year-old Tarver, Jr. said about making his pro debut on a card headlined by his 45-year-old father. "I've always wanted to fight. This just happens to be on the same fight card as my father. My father came from nothing and he's always persevered. Everything has worked out wonderfully.

"I grew up in Daytona Beach, playing basketball and football, but I've known fighters who were on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team with my father - Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Nate Jones and others - since I was a little kid. I was always with my father at his fights and in the gym, but he never let me fight. Boxing is in my blood, though, and I finally started boxing after I hurt my ankle playing basketball. I was 19 and weighed around 200 pounds. I was in Tampa with my father and went to the West Tampa Boxing Gym, the old Legends, to get some help because my father said I had to lose weight before I could fight. It took me six months because of my ankle to get down to 180. I didn't have my first amateur fight until I was 20. I finished with an 11-1 record as an amateur and now I'm just trying to catch up. I'm getting my feet as fast as my hands; nobody is tougher than me. I'm going to fight as a junior middleweight but this fight will be at 160."

(L-R) - Antonio Tarver, head trainer Orlando Cuellar and Antonio Tarver, Jr.

Father and son are quite different, in and out of the ring, outside of them both being southpaws. "I'm much more aggressive and he's more defensive," Tarver Jr. explained. "The first thing he taught me was defense. I have the best of both worlds, working side-by-side with him in the gym every day. My father taught me defense but I've learned how to mix it up. I keep my hands up but let 'em go, too. My father and I are different people and fighters. I don't have a shaved head like him, either."

Tarver did everything he could to keep his son out of boxing. "I can't tell you how surprised I am he took it upon himself to choose boxing and really concentrate on it. He always came to the gym with me but I never thought I would see my son fight professionally, never mind make his pro debut on my card. He'd come to camp and soak it all in but I always tried to deter him from boxing.

"I think he's a diamond in the rough, a sleeper prospect who will blossom. People should truly take notice because he's going to be a special fighter. Antonio is a quick learner and dedicated. I've tried to be an example for him and now he's pushing me in training camp. We are different. I'm a defensive fighter, something that's a lost art. He's aggressive, something I'm not, a real fan-friendly fighter. I'm going to help create and develop him into a fighting machine. An all-around, complete fighter with speed, power and defense. He only had a few amateur fights but he's going to be the next big thing in boxing. It would be unfair for people to compare him to his father because of our different journeys we've taken in boxing."

Both are training at Brazilian Rocky Fight Club in Miami with head trainer Orlando Cuellar, who trained Glen Johnson for his two fights (1-1) with Tarver. Cuellar sees similarities and differences as well working daily with the Tarvers.

"This is the first time I've trained a father and his son," Cuellar commented, "but I don't look at it that way. They are two fighters with separate needs. It does blow my mind when I think about it outside the gym. The father is more of an outside fighter who isn't going inside just to get some respect. His technique is deeper. Antonio is a boxer/puncher, while his son is a boxer learning to work the three distances. In that process, in time or in so many fights, he will develop his own identity picking up the technique of the three distances. He has taken from a 5-time world champion but has also added to it.

"There are three places to fight in the ring: outside, middle and inside. I enjoy working with a pressure fighter like Junior because I want my guys to drop and stop opponents. They apply pressure to breakdown opponents, starting on the outside, working to the middle, and then getting inside. Junior is a very promising prospect who likes to mix it up and let his punches fly. His father, of course, has a lot more experience. He's a tactical fighter who plays mind games inside the ring with his opponent. He's a very intelligent fighter."

The acorn hasn't fallen far from the Tarver's tree.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER REMAINS PERFECT IN REMATCH WITH MARCOS MAIDANA

Mayweather-Maidana & Santa Cruz-Roman Will Air ON SHOWTIME®
Next Saturday, Sept. 20
At 9 p.m. ET/PT Immediately Followed By
ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Epilogue

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 13, 2014) - After 24 rounds of boxing with Marcos Maidana, Floyd Mayweather is still the undisputed pound-for-pound champion.

Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) successfully defended his WBC and WBA Welterweight and WBC Super Welterweight World Championships with a unanimous 12-round decision victory in a rematch with Argentine slugger Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) on Saturday in front of 16,144 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

"Money" strategically fought the fight that he wanted, effectively avoiding the looping punches against the ropes that "El Chino" was able to land in their first bout and pivoting back to his domain - the center of the ring.

The five-division world champion was decidedly more effective and efficient, landing 58 percent of his power punches compared to Maidana's 26 percent. The 37-year-old also landed 43 percent of his jabs compared to 17 percent for Maidana and 51 percent of his total punches compared to Maidana's 22 percent.

Unlike their first meeting in May - a majority decision for the 11-time world champion - there was no controversy in the judges' decisions. Judge Guido Cavalleri had the fight 115-112 while Dave Moretti and John McKaie scored it 116-111.

"He's a tough opponent and I did what I had to do tonight," Mayweather said. "I just didn't stay on the ropes. I have a couple bumps and bruises because he's a wild young fighter. My father told me to hit and not get hit and that's what we did.

"I felt sharper in the first fight. I felt a little dry and dead in this fight. I give myself a C, a C-minus. I could have been better. I got hit with some shots tonight that I shouldn't have gotten hit with. But that comes with the sport."

Maidana disagreed with the decision but didn't plead for a third showdown.

"I thought I won the fight but if the judges want to give the fight to a guy who runs that's their decision," Maidana said. "I feel like I was the aggressor and I kept applying the pressure. He kept holding and pushing and the ref never did anything about it. Instead, the ref took a point away from me."

While the decision was clear, the fight was not without controversy.   Frustrated with Mayweather's clinching, Maidana seemingly bit his opponent's left hand in the eighth round, causing a break in the fight while referee Kenny Bayless inspected the champ's gloves.

"He bit my fingers so my fingers were numb," Mayweather said. "After the 8th round my hand was numb and I really couldn't use my left hand."

"Maybe he thinks I'm a dog, but I never bit him," Maidana said. "He was rubbing my eyes with his glove. Maybe he had his glove in my mouth, but I don't think I bit him."

After the fight, SHOWTIME reporter Jim Gray asked Mayweather if he would like a fight with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

"I'm not ducking or dodging any opponent,'' Mayweather said. "If the Manny Pacquiao fight presents itself let's make it happen. I don't know who I'll fight in May but I expect to fight. Manny needs to focus on the guy that's in front of him. Once he gets past that task we'll see what the future holds."

Undefeated WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz (28-0-1, 16 KOs) made the third successful defense of his title in the co-feature, registering a second-round TKO at 55 seconds with a straight right hand that floored Miguel Roman (17-3-3, 6 KOs).

"I trained really hard and I did what I had to do to give the fans a great fight," Santa Cruz said.   "If I had to finish fast that's what I had to do. I just came to do my job. We train hard in the gym to make it easy in the ring.''

After the fight, the two-division world champion called out WBA and WBO Super Bantamweight World Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

"I want Guillermo Rigondeaux," Santa Cruz said. "I'm not scared of him. I want my manager to make the fight so I can prove I'm the best."

Roman, who was Santa Cruz's former sparring partner, was disappointed after losing the biggest fight of his career.

"I got caught with a right," Roman said. "He just caught me. What can I say? There's nothing else."

Mickey Bey dethroned defending IBF Lightweight World Champion Miguel Vazquez with a 12-round split decision victory, scored 115-113 Bey, 115-113 Vazquez and 119-109 Bey, in an extremely tactical match.

Vazquez (34-4, 33 KOs) was riding a 13-fight win streak and making the seventh defense of his title against Bey (21-1-1, 10 KOs), who became the second fighter under the Mayweather Promotions banner to win a world title.

"I'm No. 1 in the lightweight division,'' Bey said. "He was No. 1 and now it's me. I'm not surprised that I won, I'm just really happy. He was head-butting and holding the entire time. I won every round and I beat him with one hand (hurt his right). I told my team I wasn't going to slip and now I'm No. 1 in the division.''

Vazquez landed 89 total punches and connected on only 22 percent of his shots compared to Bey's 81 punches and 21 percent.

"It was a good fight and Mickey Bey was a dignified opponent." Vazquez said. "He fought strong but I anticipated he would fight that way. I don't have much to say. A win is a win, what can I say. I thought the fight was close. I thought I won."

In the opening bout of the PPV telecast, James De La Rosa (23-2, 13 KOs) handed Alfredo Angulo (22-5, 18 KOs) his third consecutive loss in a 10-round unanimous decision, scored 98-90, 96-92 and 99-89.  De La Rosa was more active and accurate, landing 41 percent of his power punches in the most significant victory of his career.

In a live bout on "COUNTDOWN LIVE: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2," Humberto Soto (65-8, 35 KOs) won an upset foul-filled unanimous 10-round decision John Molina Jr. (27-5, 22 KOs). The junior welterweight scrap was scored 96-91 and 95-92 twice.

Mayweather-Maidana and Santa Cruz-Roman will air on SHOWTIME next Saturday, Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. ET/P T immediately followed by the premiere of ALL ACESS: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Epilogue.

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 11, 2014) - Fighters on the televised undercard for "MAYHEM: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2" took center stage today at MGM Grand for the final press conference before they enter the ring this Saturday, Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena live on SHOWTIME and SHOWTIME PPV®.

Here's what Thursday's press conference participants had to say:

LEO SANTA CRUZ, Two-Division World Champion

"I'm very happy to be on this big undercard. This is the biggest card I could possibly be on.

"We trained really hard for this fight. It's the biggest fight of my life because millions of people will be watching and I need to take advantage of that opportunity.

"I know people think this is going to be an easy fight for me, but you're going to be surprised Saturday night. I used to spar with Roman and I had to train really hard for him because I know what he brings.

"I don't underestimate anybody. Every fighter up there is dangerous. I have to go out there and work hard and give it my best to prove I belong here.

"I've trained so hard because I know I have a lot of pressure and expectations on me. I know Roman is a great fighter with great punches but we have to go out and do what we always do.

"People have said other Mayweather co-main event fighters are better and I've heard that. Because of that, this is definitely the biggest fight I've been in and I want to get the win and keep getting better fights.

"I have gotten love from fans too and I appreciate that. It's because of them that I'm here and I keep training hard to get better every time.

"My brothers and my dad are always with me coming to the gym, watching me spar and it's because of them that I'm so motivated for this fight.

"I'm looking to get the stoppage. I want it to end before 12 rounds and get him out of there and look good doing it.

"People are saying this is easy but no fight is easy. Anyone can surprise you so I always go out there and train like I'm fighting the best and I'm going to continue doing that.

"If everything goes well with this fight I definitely want to go out and get another belt and unify all the belts in the super bantamweight division."

MANUEL ROMAN, Super Bantamweight Contender

"I know we're both well prepared and we know what to expect from each other.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I'm looking to take full advantage of it.

"I know Leo well but this is a business and a tremendous opportunity for me. Winning a world title is every boxer's dream.

"I'm happy for Leo and the success he's had, but I'm confident and very well-prepared for our fight on Saturday. This will be a great fight for the fans.''

MIGUEL VAZQUEZ, IBF Lightweight World Champion

"I'm ready and well prepared. I have a tough opponent in Mickey Bey but I'm ready to win.

"I want to dedicate this fight to my family and my team and especially to God for putting me in this position to live my dreams.

"This is definitely a key fight for me and an opportunity to make a name for myself. I've been a champion a long time and made six defenses, but I know a lot of fans don't know who I am. That's why I am so looking forward to Saturday.

"I think I have extra motivation for this fight because it is my chance to show the world that I am a real champion and that I deserve to be on a card as big as this.

"I'm ready to defend and I am well-prepared for what I know is a tough opponent in Mickey Bey."

MICKEY BEY, Lightweight Contender

"Saturday I'm going to do my part and make sure it's a spectacular fight. If you're not there tune in early and check me and Miguel Vazquez out.

"I'm just waiting until Saturday to put on a show. It's going to be 36 minutes or less of nothing but fireworks. You'll have to tune in to see what happens next.

"It's just another day and another fight for me. I'm going to wait to face-off inside the ring.

"I have the best trainer in the world, the great Floyd Mayweather Sr. I'm looking forward to grinding and getting to the next level of the sport.

"I don't believe in the hype at all. I believe in going toe-to-toe with someone and seeing what happens after. Vazquez has done something right to be where he is today. He's the champ for a reason but now he's fighting me and it's a new day.

"I don't look at social media during fight week. I stay away from the negativity. I don't have time for anything except taking care of business inside the ring.

"I'm going to put on a spectacular performance on Saturday. I take it one fight at a time."

ALFREDO ANGULO, Middleweight Contender

"I'm ready for this fight at 160, I'm ready to get back to winning.

"Whenever two Mexicans are in the ring it's a really good show. I believe De La Rosa and 'El Perro' will put on a great show.

"At the 160-pound weight division, I am going to be a different animal.  You're going to see the old Alfredo Angulo.

"I'm going to show the fans, the critics and the media that I am ready.

"People are asking me if I am still going to have the power at 160 pounds, I don't like to talk, I would rather just show it in the ring on Saturday.

"You can expect a spectacular fight. James De La Rosa is coming to win and so am I but I am the only one that is going to walk out victorious."

JAMES DE LA ROSA, Middleweight Contender

"Come Saturday I'm looking to put on a show for everyone.

"You all haven't seen my skills but I know you're going to enjoy the fight.

"I just come out to fight and nothing else matters. After this fight, everyone will become a De La Rosa fan.

"You'll see everything out of me. I can do everything. I box, jab, punch, and knock out opponents when the opportunity presents itself.

"I always go in looking for the win. If a knockout comes it comes. The W is all that ever matters.

"After this fight everyone will know about me and my skills. Not everyone gets an opportunity to open up a card as big as this. I'm going to put on a show and make a statement.

"The reason I took this fight is because it's an opportunity to display my skills. It's my time now.

"I'm the most versatile fighter. Whatever benefits me to win at that moment is what you'll see me do."

JOHN MOLINA JR., Junior Welterweight Contender

"A few years back I was just a guy fighting 4-6 rounders and now I'm here today getting ready to fight a great champion.

"You all know how I fight, I come to bring it. I'm going to bring the fireworks for a great show. I know Soto won't take a backwards step and I wont either.

"We won't need the judges for this show.

"I've had a great camp with my trainer and we added some great tools to my game and we're ready to put them on display Saturday.

"Humberto Soto is a great champion, he's experienced at the top level of this game, he's someone I looked up to and now I get to look across from him in the ring and get it on.

"A win over Soto will put me right where I need to be at 140, whether it's a rematch with Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner or Danny Garcia, that makes this win really important.

"I got my notoriety by taking the scenic route, the back roads and when I get in the ring I try to put it all on the line. I try to put on a show for the people who spend their hard-earned money on these fights.

"It's been a long exciting road. I didn't have an extensive amateur career so I had to take the small fights but I made a name for myself and now I'm here at the biggest stage of boxing fighting on a Floyd Mayweather card fighting one of the great past champions of all time in Humberto Soto."

HUMBERTO SOTO, Junior Welterweight Contender

"I'm very glad to be here on a big showcase again. The winners will be the fans on Saturday night

"Like a true professional I respect John Molina and his team, but in that ring we are enemies and we're going to put on a great show.

"I know that I am getting into the ring with a quality, tough fighter but I also know that I have my experience in the ring behind me.  The years don't hurt my performance, in fact they add to what I bring into the ring.

"We have studied his fights so we know what to expect. Experience is on our side and that is one of the keys to victory.

"I am very happy to be fighting in Nevada after all of the fights that I have fought.  I hope to bring a victory to my fellow Mexican people.

"This could be the fight of the night and I encourage all fans to watch it because they will be in for a treat.

"I am very happy and grateful for this opportunity but I just want to win."

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

"We're here today to talk about this wonderful undercard; it's going to be a terrific show.

"It's never easy to put together an undercard and we did a great job putting together these fights to give the fans the best show possible on Saturday night.

"I believe that Mickey Bey will emerge victorious Saturday night. He's worked very hard to get here and been through a lot of ups and downs in his career.

"Mickey Bey knows that he has a very tough opponent in Miguel Vazquez who comes into this fight on a 13-match winning streak dating all the way back to his 2008 loss against a terrific fighter in Canelo Alvarez.

"You have to tune in early or get to your seats early so that you don't miss this great undercard we've put together.

ERIC GOMEZ, Senior Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions

"We're very excited about this undercard. It's customary for Golden Boy and Floyd Mayweather to put on exciting championship matchups with terrific fighters. We're very proud of this undercard.

"You want to get out there early tomorrow to see all these prospects and future champions that will be on the card.

"Alfredo Angulo is one of the most popular fighters in the sport. I would say that he might have the best fans in all of boxing. They always support him no matter what, and I'm sure they'll be out in full force Saturday night.

"A lot of people don't get the opportunity to fight for a world title. They're just waiting for that one opportunity. That's what happened for Manuel Roman, who is finally getting a chance for a world title. He's put in all the hard work and he's looking to take full advantage.
