Australian IBF #3 Featherweight Joel Brunker Training in NYC for Selby Showdown

Australian featherweight "Aussie" Joel Brunker (27-0, 15 KOs) is determined to win his upcoming IBF Elimination bout and is willing to go around the world to do it. Brunker, rated IBF #3, will face Selby (19-1, 7 KOs), rated IBF #6, on October 11 at the O2 Arena in London, England, for the right to become the next mandatory challenger to champion Evgeny Gradovich. To ensure himself the best training camp possible, Brunker flew to New York on September 14 and is spending his final month of training in the area's best gyms, sparring with world-class fighters. "I've never had a fighter so dedicated," said Brunker's co-promoter, Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions (along with Adam Wilcock of Fight Card Promotions). "To do something like this really shows he's putting it all out there and giving himself the best chance to win this fight." Brunker, who knows what it takes to win at the world level after competing at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, has been working out of Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn, House of Pain in Newark and Church Street Gym in Lower Manhattan, among others, trading punches with the likes of Wanzell Ellison, Jorge Diaz and Gary Stark Jr. "Joel wants this more than anything," continued Cohen. "He knew he couldn't get the right work in Australia, so he took the 22-hour flight to get here. I didn't ask him to do that; he asked me! And the results are already quite evident. He's learning a lot from working with so many top contenders and is looking extremely sharp and ready. Lee Selby is not going to know what hit him that night. My partner, Adam Wilcock, and I are extremely proud of his efforts."

QUEENS, NY (SEPTEMBER 19, 2013)  — This Saturday night,September 21^st, 2013 at the Resorts World Casino New York City in Queens, New York, two big New York State title bouts highlight a terrific night of boxing action promoted by New Legend Boxing, Old World Boxing and WON Promotions.

In an eight round bout, undefeated fighters Frank Galarza (10-0-2, 6 KO’s) and Richard Neves (6-0-1, 3 KO’s) will battle it out for the New York State Jr. Middleweight crown.  Both fighters are very confident going into this bout which is one of the most anticipated bouts in the greater New York area.

“I have worked hard, I had a hard camp and I am prepared mentally and physically”, said Galarza.  “Neves is a straight forward fighter.  He keeps coming in and I have to be prepared for that.”

This will be Galarza’s 4^th appearance at the Resorts World Casino and the Brooklyn native enjoys fighting at the venue.  “I love fighting at Resorts World Casino; I always put on a show”.  Galarza is no stranger to taking on the top competition as he and fellow undefeated fighter Alantez Fox fought a “Fight of the Year” back on September 22, 2012 at the Resorts World Casino and that fight has helped prepare Galarza for this fight. 

“This is my 2^nd undefeated opponent, so this is nothing new.  I fight top competition and I am trying to bring boxing back.  The fans don’t want to see fights where you basically know who is going to win.  That takes away from the sport.  People want to see competitive fights.  I have something to prove to myself and fighting these kinds of fights is a learning experience.”

Galarza is sure to show the fans the tenacious style that has made him a fan favorite in the New York area.  “I am not taking any prisoners.  He better be prepared.  I also want to thank my manager AJ Galante and my promoters New Legend Boxing, Old World Boxing and WON Promotions”, finished the 28 year-old Galarza.

Although he doesn’t have the professional experience that Galarza brings, Rich Neves is also very confident of a victory on Saturday night.  “It’s a great opportunity.  I could not turn it down.  I am ready to go in and do what I do”, said Neves, a native of New Hyde Park, New York.

Both guys admit to knowing each other a little bit from being around the New York Boxing Circuit but each know the stakes are high for this fight. “Once that bell rings, friendship goes out the window” said Neves.

Despite having less fights, Neves believes that he is actually on par with Galarza in terms of experience.  “He has more professional experience, at the same time I have fought tough guys in the amateurs, so his pro experience won’t mean much”.  Being only his eighth pro bout, Neves is happy for the opportunity to win his first belt.  “We do this to become champions and hopefully this will be the first of many to come.”

Like Galarza, Neves will have a huge fan base in attendance, which will make for an exciting atmosphere.  “This is a great fight and hopefully the fans will enjoy it.  I know I already have in excess of 100 fans coming to see me” said Neves.

MAIN EVENT:

In the main event, Leon Moore will take on Rafael Vazquez for the WBA FEDELATIN’s Super Bantamweight Championship scheduled for ten rounds.

Moore of Georgetown, Guyana has an impressive mark of 30-2 with 24 wins coming by way of knockout.  He was the former Guyanese Bantamweight champion, WBC Caribbean Bantamweight champion, NABA Bantamweight champion, WBC Caribbean Super Bantamweight champion and the PABA Super Bantamweight champion.  Moore who turned pro in 2001, sports a win over former world champion Mauricio Pastrana and has won 12 straight bouts with the latest being a 2^nd round stoppage over Earl Trotmann on July 5^th in Georgetown, Guyana.

Vazquez of Howard Beach, Queens, has a record of 8-1 with 6 knockouts. Vazquez turned pro in 2010 after an impressive amateur career and won his first eight fights before suffering his lone defeat when he lost a split decision to Jhovanny Collado on September 22, 2012.

CO-MAIN EVENT:

Current UBF world champion, Amanda Serrano will take on an opponent to be named in a six round Women’s Featherweight bout.  Serrano residing in Bushwick, Brooklyn has an outstanding mark of 18-1-1 with 13 wins coming by way of knockout.  Serrano began her career with a 12-0-1 record, which included big wins over undefeated Christina Ruiz and Nydia Feliciano, as well as capturing the NABF with a 1^st round knockout over Jennifer Scott.  Serrano also captured the IBF Featherweight title with a 2^nd round stoppage over Kimberly Connor.  After suffering her only defeat to undefeated Frida Wallberg in Wallberg’s home country of Sweden, Serrano bounced back, notching another four consecutive knockouts with the latest being on June 29^th at the Resorts World Casino New York City over Dominga Oliva of  Brooklyn, New York.
