Former Champ Terry Dunstan Gloves Up Once More - For Charity Bout

In just over a week’s time former English, British and European Cruiserweight Champion Terry Dunstan dons gloves once more, when he takes part in the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym Charity Spar-Boxing Tournament, in
association with the World Boxing Union and in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, takes place at the Menzies Prince Regent Hotel, Manor Road, Chigwell, Essex IG8 8AE on Saturday 22nd February 2014.

Terry, who thrilled the crowds for close to two decades with his all action and power punching style, virtually dominated the domestic scene in the late nineties.

In 1995 Terry beat then Champ Dennis Andries to lift the coveted Lonsdale belt, nine months later Terry once again beat Dennis in the rematch before going on to successfully defend the British crown against John ‘Buster’
Keaton just three months later.

Terry vacated the title in February 1998, after successfully beating Alexander Gurov, by a sensational first round knockout, to become the EBU European Cruiserweight Champion.

Six weeks later Terry vacated the European crown, to challenge Imamu Mayfield for IBF World Cruiserweight laurels, in doing so suffered his first career loss.

It would be twenty one months before the Vauxhall based slugger challenged for Championship honours once more, when he faced and lost to Carl Thompson.

It would be nine years before fans of big Tel got to see their hero in action once more, and eleven before they see him back on the Championship trail.

In December 2010 Terry once again strapped a Championship belt round his waist, when he secured the English title.

Terry’s last ring action came some seven months later, when he unsuccessfully challenged Ola Afolabi for the WBO Inter-Continental title.

Now training people in the art of Boxing, Terry can be found passing on his undoubted skills to others at the TRAD TKO Gym in Canning Town.

It was after one of these sessions, at the famous East End fight factory, that Terry took a few moments to talk about his return to the ring, for a worthy cause.

“Of course, of course I’ll go out there for a good cause, it’s for the Indee Rose Trust and I couldn’t think of a more worthy cause.

I jumped at it as soon as Johnny Eames said to me about the event, I said I’d love to do it, of course I did, it’s for Charity.

It’ll be good fun, I was going to have a kick about at the football tournament, I was hoping to score the winning goal, but the football didn’t happen last year so I’ll box instead.

Like I said it’s all for Charity, you can’t get better than that, boxing again and for a good cause.”

ABOUT THE INDEE ROSE TRUST AND THE SPAR-BOXING TOURNAMENT

For the past few years the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym has held an annual Boxers & Celebrities Charity Football Tournament, in Aid of the Indee Rose Trust, however, due to being let down on a venue in 2013, the illustrious team at the East London fight factory had to rethink their fund raising efforts for this extremely worthwhile cause, that provides support for children who have been diagnosed with a brain or spinal tumour.

Gym partners Johnny Eames and Gianluca Di Caro brainstormed with some of the regular supporters and participants of the Football Tournament, one suggested a Boxing Tournament, featuring some of the TRAD TKO old boys and their rivals.

No surprise that when TRAD TKO former stars boxers, such as WBU Light Heavyweight Champion Tony Oakey, WBU Lightweight Champ Graham Earl and British and European Bantamweight Champion Ian Napa, to name just a few, were approached with the concept, they loved it and in an instant to a man signed up to take part.

Within hours a virtually full card of fights were made, as stars such as WBU Middleweight Champion Wayne Elcock, British & European Cruiserweight Champ Terry Dunstan, WBO Super Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook, British Super Bantamweight Champion Matthew Marsh, Southern Area Champion and WBU
Middleweight challenger Gary Logan, Southern Area Light Middleweight Champ Tony Hudson, British Champion Patrick Mullins as well as Gary Barron, Mark Ford, Joe Elfidh, Lee Beavis, along with TRAD TKO Coaches Ben Doughty, Brian O’Shaughnessy, Tony Cesay and Michael Sprott’s coach Andrew Edge signed up to fight.

The TRAD TKO Boxing Gym Charity Spar-Boxing Event, in association with the World Boxing Union and in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, takes place at the Menzies Prince Regent Hotel, Manor Road, Chigwell, Essex IG8 8AE on Saturday 22nd February 2014.

Tickets, priced £80 (inclusive of an evening of quality spar-boxing, three course meal and after party) are available from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town or through the TKO Box Office – www.tkoboxoffice.com or call

Sensational Teen Prospect Tommy Martin Back In Action Nov 29th

Back on October 18th St Neots teen sensation Tommy ‘Da Gun’ Martin put in a scintillating performance, to take the laurels against Ibrar Riyaz at York Hall, to make it five wins on five outings in the twelve months since he turned professional.

Throughout the bout Tommy dominated and controlled the proceedings with some seriously classy ring craft, which enabled the nineteen year old to pick off the highly experienced Riyaz virtually at will, to secure a superb 40-37 points victory.

After such a tough fight and with the mid season break heading up fast, most young fighters would be thinking of winding down for the Christmas break, not young Tommy, who already has another fight lined up.

On November 29th Tommy makes his sixth pro outing, against a yet to be named opponent, on former WBU Lightweight World Champion Graham Earl, in association with TRAD TKO Events, latest offering ‘Stevenage Fight Night’ at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre.

Following a training session, under the watchful eyes of coach Barry Smith at the TRAD TKO Gym in Canning Town, Tommy spoke of his upcoming November outing.

“I can’t wait and hopefully I’ll get my sixth win.

We’re fighting in Stevenage, four weeks after my last fight, but I’m young fit and healthy, so I’m more than ready to go.

It’s all about making sure I’m sharp, I’m sure Barry Smith will make sure I’m in top shape.

I’ve been coming to the TRAD TKO for coming up to a year now, I’m learning every time in the gym, Barry’s always on my back, he’s always there, if I do something wrong he corrects it.

I’m in a really good place at the minute.

Firstly I’d like to thank TKO for being there for me, secondly I’d like to thank my main sponsor, Junction 17 Cars, who have just given me a car for winning my last fight.

They’re covering all the financial side, so I can just focus on the boxing. I think that’s why I am improving all the time.

I’m living the life, Monday to Friday on my own and focusing on boxing, my Dad is covering all the tickets, with my cousin JJ and Sheridan.

Yeah, I’m more than happy with the way everything is going, more than happy.

Finally I’d like to thank all those that came to my last fight, it looks like I’ll be doubling it for this fight.”

Tommy ‘Da Gun’ Martin, against a yet to be named opponent, features on the Graham Earl, in association with TRAD TKO Events, ‘Stevenage Fight Night’ at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre on Friday 29th November.
Tickets priced £30 and £50 are available direct from Tommy or from Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre Box Office – Tel: 01438 363200

NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS – London, 4th Oct: 7 Champions, 4 Title Fights incl. 2 World Title Fights

Former European Welterweight Champion Michel ‘Phantom’ Trabant, challenging for the vacant GBC Super Middleweight World Title, heads up the latest offering from Dave Murphy and the Acourtier Events team, the
aptly named ‘NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS’, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, on Friday 4th October.

Co-headlining is the rescheduled Jennifer Retzke versus Angel McKenzie vacant GBC Female Welterweight World title clash, which was originally scheduled to headline the Acourtier Events  ‘Independence Day’ event on
July 5th.

In keeping with the ‘Night of Champions’ theme, main support for the two World Championship co-headliners, sees Malta’s WBU International Light Welterweight Champion ‘Super’ Steve Martin make a welcome return to the
UK, to defend the title he secured last year, by a fifth round stoppage of Germany based Turk Sabri Ulas Goecmen.

Irish Light Middleweight Champion Lee Murtagh  will also be in Championship action, when he defends the title he won back in July last year, after Joe Hillerby retired with a dislocated shoulder, and subsequently successfully defended against Willie Thompson in October.

The mega fourteen bout card will also mark the return to the fray of not just one former Champion, but two.

Luton’s former British, Commonwealth and WBU Lightweight World Champion Graham ‘The Duke’ Earl, returns to action in the Light Welterweight division.

Earl, who virtually dominated the domestic Lightweight scene in the mid noughties, contested eleven Championship bouts, winning nine including the WBU World crown, between 2001 and 2007.

The second returning star is South London’s former WBO Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Champion, and former World title challenger, Mark Prince, who will be making his first outing in the Cruiserweight division.

Prince, whose only loss came when he challenged Dariusz Michalczewski for his WBO Light Heavyweight World Crown in 1998, holds an excellent professional record of nineteen wins, fifteen by way of stoppage, and just
the single loss.

The final former Champion in action on October 4th is former English Super Featherweight Champion Ryan Barrett , who faces Jan Balog in a Welterweight contest.

Making his welcome return to York Hall, the scene of his pro debut back in April, is former Team GB star Ian Weaver.

Weaver, who since his great debut win over Damian Lawniczak has fought in California, USA, where he scored a tremendous first round knockout win over Karihi Tehei in July.

Also making her return to York Hall on the 4th October, the scene of her superb first round stoppage victory over Hungarian #1 ranked Gabriella Roman back in April, is the Woolwich, London based protégé of Smokin’ Joe
Frazier, Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston.

Making his first outing since signing with Acourtier Events is exciting Light Middleweight Phil Fury, the cousin and teammate of Heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury.

Sensational Danish Light Welterweight prospect Osama Hadifi makes his UK debut.  Highly rated Hadifi has a perfect six fight, six wins, all by first round knockout, record.

Unbeaten Featherweight prospect Maxine McCarthy will be making her first visit to York Hall, where she will take on  Latvia’s Julija Cvetkova.

Last but not least, two exceptional amateur stars, Shiya Ozgul and Antonio Counihan will be making their professional debuts on October 4th.

Dalston, London based Ozgul is just nineteen years of age, yet has already fought over eighty times as an amateur, during which he not only represented Turkey in various international competitions, but was also
crowned Junior Turkish Champion. On October 4th Ozgul will face Hungary’s Aron Csipak.

Solihull’s Counihan had an outstanding amateur career, during which he fought eighty competitive bouts, fifteen of which were Team GB Internationals, as well as had the honour of Captaincy of the England National Amateur Boxing Squad bestowed upon him as well as accrued numerous national accolades along the way, including winning the Junior ABAs, The Great Britain Championships and the Haringey Box Cup.

For his debut fight young Antonio has been set the challenge of facing six fight veteran Arturas Zbarauskas from Lithuania.
