DIAZ & TAPIA SCORE BIG STOPPAGE WINS—FIGHT CARD NOW ON DEMAND ON GFL


Farrell gets TKO; Barnwell decisions Dawejko; LaManna outlasts Leiva; Gangemi, McKenna and Wright have successful pro debuts

ATLANTIC CITY (August 21, 2012)—This past Saturday night rising prospect Joel Diaz scored an impressive stoppage after round two over Guillermo Sanchez in a scheduled round Super Featherweight bout that highlighted a action packed nine bout card at Ballys.

Diaz of Palmdale, CA. hurt Sanchez with a flurry of hard shots at the end of the second round and when Sanchez sat on his stool after the round, he had decided he had enough and Diaz had the stoppage victory.

It was Diaz eleventh win without a defeat with the tenth coming via stoppage.  Sanchez of Buffalo, NY is now 13-7-1.

In the co-feature, Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (15-0, 9 KO’s) dropped late replacement Franklin Gonzalez (15-11) twice en route to a first round blowout in a scheduled eight round Middleweight bout.

It was a dramatic week for Tapia, whose girlfriend gave birth to the couple’s first child (a girl) just thirteen days before the fight and Tapia also had several opponents pull out before Gonzalez was secured just twenty –four hours before the fight.

Patrick Farrell survived a hard knockdown in the first round before outlasting and getting a stoppage over Wayne Hampton in round three of a scheduled six round Heavyweight bout.
In a anticipated battle of undefeated Heavyweights, Dorsett Barnwell (7-0) scored a six round unanimous decision over former world amateur champion Joey Dawejko (7-1-1).

In an exciting six round Jr. Middleweight battle, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna survived a late rally from rugged Yolexcy Leiva (5-4) and took a hard fought six round split decision.

LaManna dropped Leiva with a hard right hand in round two and was poised for the knockout victory.  Leiva battled back and landed some good shots over the final three rounds, but the twenty year-old LaManna of Millville, NJ put enough rounds in the bank early to come home with the victory and remain perfect at 9-0.

Top Rank prospect Toka Kahn Clary (2-0, 2 KO’s) made it two knockouts in as many fights as he smashed an overmatched Jamil Winfield (0-2) in seventy-six seconds of their four round Super Featherweight fight.

Three highly regarded prospects all made successful pro debuts as former three-time Irish national champion Tyrone McKenna scored a four round unanimous decision over fellow pro debuter Anthony Morrison of Philadelphia in a Jr. Welterweight clash.

Tyrell Wright of Jersey City scored a four round unanimous decision over Dennis Benson (1-3)  in a Heavyweight battle while Anthony Gangemi of Dover, NJ was impressive in stopping Jimmy Ellis (1-2)  in round three of their four round Jr. Middleweight fight.

THOMAS “CORNFLAKE” LAMANNA TO TAKE ON YOLEXCY LEIVA THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT BALLYS IN ATLANTIC CITY

ATLANTIC CITY (August 16, 2012)--Thomas "Cornflake" LaManna of Millville NJ will step back into the ring this Saturday at Bally’s Atlantic City when he squares off against battle tested Cuban Yolexcy Leiva, (5-3, 3 KO’s) in a six round Jr. Middleweight bout.

The show is promoted by John Lynch’s Pound For Pound Promotions.

LaManna, 20, was originally scheduled to fight on the July 27th but due to a death in the family, as well as numerous opponents pulling out, LaManna was left without an opponent.

"It sucks when you trained so hard for all those weeks and the sacrifices you have to make, only to end up not fighting. It’s a part of the business" LaManna said with a grin on his face.   Just days before the 27th, LaManna lost his Uncle, who he was very close with. "Losing my Uncle Al took a huge toll on me and my family, but I have to stay strong and grind it out".

LaManna has no doubt in his mind that this fight with Leiva will be his toughest to date.  Leiva, 33, of Nashville, TN now residing in Brooklyn NY is coming off of a first round TKO defeat to Undefeated prospect Frank Galarza (7-0)That fight took place on June 8th in Woodhaven, NY.   In his fight before that, Leiva upset than undefeated local favorite Benny Costantino, 7-0.

LaManna is coming off a six round Unanimous Decision over tough Sean Rawley Wilson on April 27th at Resorts in Atlantic City NJ.

In the eight round co-feature, undefeated Jr. Middleweight Glen Tapia (14-0, 8 KO’s) takes on Hilario Lopez (12-11, 8 KO’s).

Highlighting the undercard, will be Patrick Farrell as well as a six round battle of undefeated Heavyweight featuring Joey Dawejko (7-0-1, 3 KO’s) taking on Dorsett Barnwell (6-0, 3 KO’s).

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ  (August 13, 2012)—THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, August 18th, at Ballys in Atlantic City  one of the most exciting prospects in Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia will be on display when he takes on Hilario Lopez (12-11, 8 KO’s) of Parma, Idaho in Tapia’s first scheduled eight round Jr.Middleweight bout.

In the main event, undefeated Joel Diaz Jr. (10-0, 9 KO’s) takes on Guillermo Sanchez (13-6-1, 5 KO’s) in a ten round Super Featherweight bout.

Tapia of Passaic, New Jersey has a record of 14-0 with eight knockouts will be extra motivated on August 18th as he became the proud father of a baby girl when Tapia and his girlfriend Carolyn welcomed Isabella Nouvel Tapia into the world on August 5th.  Baby Isabella weighed in at 7lbs 4oz.

“I have always wanted to be the best”, said Tapia. “I know now that I can’t slip up because I have my baby to feed. I am real excited to fight and I just want to get back home to my little princess.”

Tapia knows he has some tough business before that as Lopez has only been stopped one time in twenty-three fights.

“I have seen a couple tapes of him and he has fought guys with great power and he has lasted the distance so I know it will be a tough fight.”

On graduating to eight round bouts, Tapia is ready for the step up in class.

“I have been ready for eight round fights for a while.  I was just taking my time and I am ready to step it up”, said Tapia.

Lopez has been in the ring with several notable fighters such as Orlando Lora, Mike Alvarado, Julio Garcia, Craig McEwan, Aaron Martinez, Omar Henry and Abraham Han.

CARD SHAPING UP FOR AUGUST 18TH POUND FOR POUND BOXING EVENT AT BALLYS IN ATLANTIC CITY

ATLANTIC CITY (August 7, 2012)—On Saturday night August 18th, Pound For Pound Promotions presents a night of world class boxing that will take place at Ballys in Atlantic City.
In the ten round Main Event, undefeated Joel Diaz Jr. takes on Guillermo Sanchez in a Super Featherweight bout.

Diaz of Palmdale, California has a record of 10-0 with nine knockouts and has been impressive in his two year professional career.

The twenty year old already has signature wins over Guy Robb (7-0) via seventh round stoppage and in his last bout when scored a fifth round stoppage over former world title challenger Emanuel Lucero (26-10-1) on June 2nd in Tacoma, Washington.

Sanchez of Buffalo, New York has a record of 13-5-1 with six knockouts.

Sanchez won his first eleven bouts and he has victories over four undefeated fighters in Harvey Murray (2-0-2), Eddie Irizarry (5-0), Miguel Rodriguez (6-0) and Rod Salka (12-0).

The twenty-four year old has been matched extremely tough as evidenced by his fights with Dominic Salcido (17-2), Future world champion Adrien Broner (16-0), Mark Davis (15-0), former world title challenger Edner Cherry (28-7). In that bout he had Cherry on the canvas in the first round. In his last bout, Sanchez dropped an eight round unanimous decision to undefeated Ronny Rios (17-0) on April 7th.

Hot Prospect Joel Diaz Jr. Returns August 18

July 24, 2012 - On August 18, 2012, rising star and undefeated power punching prospect, Joel Diaz Jr. (10-0, 9 KOs) makes his way back to the ring when he faces Puerto Rican born slugger,Guillermo Sanchez (13-6-1, 5 KOs).  The 10-round main event attraction will take place at Ballys Park Place Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, and is promoted by Pound for Pound Promotions in association with Boxing 360.

"I'm coming hard like I always do," said Diaz.
