Mr Carter ready for Heavyweight bow

5th April sees the debut of exciting heavyweight AJ Carter - aka 'Mr Carter' - on Goodwin Promotions' Eurosport-televised show 'It's Banjo Time' at Grays, Essex.

Carter takes on the experienced Paul Morris over four three-minute rounds.

25 year-old Carter has been described as a “mini Mike Tyson” by manager Derek Williams who has signed a promotional deal with Steve Goodwin for his heavyweight protégé.

AJ is trained by his father and former pro Carlton Warren and has sparred David Haye, George Groves and more recently Ian Lewison and Dillian Whyte in preparation for his debut.

AJ only had five amateur fights so he is realistic in his expectations. “The next four years are about building my career and developing experience. I don’t expect to be in major fights until 2017.”

The Carter-Morris fight is one of nine bouts on the card.

Middleweight Lee ‘Banjo’ Markham takes on the tough 'Pocklington Rocket 'Harry Matthews for the British Masters middleweight title at his hometown venue of Grays Civic Hall. Markham has won seven from eight contests and has been very impressive since signing with Goodwin with two stoppages over two previously unbeaten fighters and winning all three of his fights under the GP banner by stoppage.

Chester livewire Chris Goodwin, who has won 16 from 19 fights, takes on Irishman Oisin Fagan for the International Masters lightweight title. Veteran Fagan, 39, (26-8) at the age of 39 has mixed in world class company against the likes of Amir Khan and Paul Spadafora and he'll still be a stiff test for Goodwin.
Menay 'The Emperor' Edwards aims to break into the world's top 80 as he takes on world-ranked number 77, Latvian Arturs Kulikauskis.

'The Tornado' Tyler Goodjohn came close to winning his first title in 2012 when he lost a close decision to now Southern Area champion Danny Connor. Tyler looks to make amends as he takes on Dave 'Dezzy' O’Connor from Plymouth for the British Masters light-welterweight strap.

Exciting Middleweight prospect Jimmy Coyle takes on Jay Morris.

Light-middleweight Billy Cayzer has his first fight since losing his unbeaten professional record against Bulgarian champion Stillian Kostov and takes on Brummie Dee Mitchell. The by now traditional bumper Goodwin card is completed by middleweight Miley Cash v Dan Blackwell and super-middleweight Mike Evans v Robert Studzinski.
Tickets are sold out but you can catch the action live on Eurosport on 5th April between 8pm and 10pm.

COYLE RETURNS AND AIMS FOR TITLE SHOT BY THE END OF THE YEAR

Friday April 5th sees the return of unbeaten middleweight Jimmy Coyle (3-0-1) in his first fight since signing a managerial and promotional deal with Goodwin Promotions. Coyle boxes on the undercard of Goodwin's latest bumper show in Grays, Essex which is being shown live on Eurosport 8-10pm.

The story of Jimmy Coyle as an amateur was a very successful one. He was junior ABA champion, defeating current WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly in the semi final, and was also runner up in another Junior ABA final to Kell Brook, losing by a single point. Jimmy also won the NABC Senior title.

Big things were expected of Jimmy when he turned professional three years ago but with only four fights in three years his career was going nowhere and he was thinking of retiring. After a meeting with Steve Goodwin his enthusiasm has been rekindled and he is looking for 2013 to be the year he makes his mark in the professional ranks.

“I have had a lot of trouble outside the ring and am continually battling my demons. I have not been active in the ring for various reasons but now I have signed with Steve this will not be a problem. I get on really well with Steve as we are both straight talkers and say it as it is.

“Whilst I am taking one fight at a time I want to be fighting for a title by the end of the year (minimum Area title) and I will always be up for Prizefighter as I believe the tournament will suit my style.”

Jimmy will fight Jay Morris on the 5th April show which will be shown live on Eurosport.

Lee Aims to Make his Mark

Grays’ exciting middleweight Lee Markham is three weeks away from his first title shot. On 5th April, Markham takes on the tough 'Pocklington Rocket' Harry Matthews for the British Masters middleweight title at his hometown venue of Grays Civic Hall, in a show which is already virtually sold out.

The show, promoted by Steve Goodwin for Goodwin Promotions, will be shown live on Eurosport and features three title fights.

Markham warmed up for the contest with a two round demolition of Jamie Boness and since signing with Goodwin the 24 year-old has recorded three back-to-back stoppage victories.

Markham is clearly improving. “I was offered a Southern Area title fight with John Ryder last December and whilst excited about the opportunity my manager Steve persuaded me it was a fight for us in the future and he was right," said Markham. "He is guiding me the right way.”

Matthews is one tough customer. It is ironic that the Yorkshireman was promoted by Markham’s now manager Steve Goodwin when he moved to 9-0 in March 2010, after defeating Terry Carruthers by knockout. Since leaving Goodwin, Matthews results deteriorated, though his record stands at a still-impressive 12-6-1. Matthews has been mixing in decent class - his last fight was a points loss to Chris Eubank Jr.

In the joint main event, Chester livewire Chris Goodwin, who has won 16 from 19 fights, takes on Irishman Oisin Fagan for the International Masters lightweight title. Fagan (26-8) at the age of 39 is certainly at the veteran stage of his career but he has mixed in world class company against the likes of Amir Khan and Paul Spadafora and he'll still be a stiff test for Goodwin.

'The Tornado' Tyler Goodjohn came close to winning his first title in 2012 when he lost a close decision to now Southern Area champion Danny Connor. Tyler looks to make amends as he takes on Dave 'Dezzy O’Connor from Plymouth for the British Masters light-welterweight strap.

'Lay 'Em Out' Ian Lewison, fresh from his controversial Prizefighter semi-final exit, has an International heavyweight clash with a soon to be named opponent.

Another heavyweight from Brixton, the exciting AJ Carter, makes his debut.

Jimmy Coyle, former national amateur champion, has his first fight under the Goodwin banner since signing a long term deal. Jimmy defeated current world champion Nathan Cleverly as an amateur and fights in a four-threes middleweight contest.

Cruiserweight Menay 'The Emperor' Edwards re-appears after his comprehensive defeat last weekend of former British champion Shane McPhilbin. Light-middleweight Billy Cayzer has his first fight since losing his unbeaten professional record against Bulgarian Cchampion Stillian Kostov.

The by now traditional bumper Goodwin card is completed by middleweight Miley Cash and super-middleweight Mike Evans.
