Patrick Hyland injured; May 18 card in Poughkeepsie cancelled

(May 9, 2013) - A minor shoulder injury suffered during training camp has forced Irish featherweight contender Patrick "The Punisher" Hyland to withdraw from his scheduled main event fight May 18 at Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.  Final Round Promotions announced today that the entire "The Heat Is On" card has been cancelled. Hyland (27-1, 12 KOs), rated No. 13 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), has a muscle pull in his right shoulder.  The 29-year-old Hyland, a native of Dublin, lives in Marlboro, New York. "Patrick is under doctor's orders to stop training for two weeks and undergo treatment," promoter Mike Pascale (Final Round Promotions) explained.  "We're all disappointed but injuries, unfortunately, are part of boxing.  We've already started looking at a few possible dates for a rescheduled show featuring Patrick, but we need to wait for his medical report in two weeks to know his physical status, before we can book a date.  This is just a minor bump in the road for Patrick, who will not have any permanent damage from this injury, as he continues on his journey towards a world title." (March 28, 2012) - Undefeated super featherweight prospect Patrick "The Punisher" Hyland leads the "Irish Invasion" card, presented by Final Round Promotions in association with Team Snooki Boxing and Bob Duffy's Ring Promotions, May 12 at Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Hyland (25-0, 11 KOs), one of three fighting Hyland brothers from Ireland who are now living in Marlboro (NY), puts his perfect record on the line in the eight-round main event against an opponent to soon be announced. The 28-year-old Hyland is the reigning World Boxing Federation ("WBF") super featherweight champion, in addition to being the former International Boxing Federation ("IBF") International and Irish featherweight, and International Boxing Association ("IBA") Inter-Continental super featherweight titlist.

Presently rated No. 12 by the North American Boxing Association ("NABA"), Hyland will be fighting in the United State for only the fifth time, including his last action this past January in Atlantic City. The stylish Irishman won a unanimous eight-round decision from veteran Emmanuel Lucero (26-8-1).
