Georgi Karakhanyan

What are your thoughts and impressions of your next opponent, Rick Glenn?

“He deserves the title shot. He's 2-0 in the World Series of Fighting. He's long and lanky with a style like Erik Koch and Anthony Pettis. He has a great coach – Duke Roufus, whom I respect. My last two World Series of Fighting opponents, Waylon Lowe and Lance Palmer, were very tough and so is Rick Glenn. I don't underestimate him but I'm coming into this fight with lots of confidence.”

Are you making any special preparations for Rick Glenn?

”I'm just sparring with a lot of tall southpaws. This will be my fourth southpaw opponent and I think I'm a very bad match-up for southpaws because of my roundhouse kicks. I'm unbeaten versus southpaws (3-0).

“I'm going to stay on my game and come up with new things. You know, I don't want to be a boring fighter; I want to put on an exciting show for the fans. I've put an extreme amount of time in this sport and I haven't fought the way that I expect myself to fight. I keep going to the gym every day to become the fighter I've always visualized. I haven't fought the way I want to fight.”

Where would you rank yourself among the world's best featherweights?

“For sure Top 10, even Top 5. I've faced tougher opponents during my first two fights in World Series of Fighting than some guys in other organizations. I'm willing to take chances and I'm willing to fight all of the top guys to climb up the ladder.”

Mehmen.jpg
Mehmen_3.jpg
Derrick Mehmen quotes & tweets:

I've said it before, you can't fix stupid,” Mehmen said in one of his tweets. “@Badmanhuckaba the 21st the world will see (how) delusional your really are.”
After I whoop @BadmanHuckaba a**, who's next? Might as well set that s*** up @MMAWorldSeries”

He's got some power in his hands and he's a brawler,” said Mehmen, who has never been knocked out. “He doesn't have a whole lot of technique or anything … but I'm impressed that he's a tough guy. … He's got a puncher's chance. I've got the power, technique and I'm more well-rounded. I can take it to the ground if I want, but I don't have to take it to the ground. He's not taking me down. If I do take him down I'm going to dominate him. He's got nothing for me on the ground, for sure. The only chance he has to win this fight is one lucky punch.”

Dave Huckaba quotes:

He's got a big mouth really,” Huckaba said. “He's badmouthed my family and me. He's disrespectful to the sport. MMA is a sport of respect, man. It's a sport of two men doing battle, it's not about trash talking. He's just a young kid that doesn't know any better.

He's not even that good of a fighter, man. He's got an overhand right and grappling and that's about it.… I'm going to knock him out.”

Huckaba started training at 31 (no BJJ, wrestling, martial arts training prior)
“I mostly train in my garage and I still beat up top-level fighters. I still beat up people from the world's biggest MMA gyms. There's no other way to explain my success other than 'heart' and putting in the work. I'm just a gifted athlete.”

Rick Glenn
Rick Glenn is an aggressive 25-year-old striker from Iowa, who now lives and trains in Milwaukee with standup wizard Duke Roufus at the Roufusport MMA academy.  At 6-feet tall, he looks to use his reachon Saturday to defeat Karakhanyan.

on training with Anthony Pettis:

"Anthony is a weight class above me, he's got the UFC belt and I've been training with him for three years now. Heck yeah, training with Anthony helps my confidence a lot."

Rick Glenn's thoughts about Georgi Karakhanyan:
"He's really athletic and well-rounded. Seems like a respectful guy. I'm going to beat him by staying sharp, don't make mistakes and take it to him. I'm going for the finish."
"Growing up my dad always told me, 'It's either you or them. How bad do you want it? And I want this title really bad. I'm not looking to get my ass kicked."

Nick Lobosco
Nicky Lobosco is a heavy-handed featherweight fighting with St. Charles MMA in Missouri.  The high school wrestling coach made a splash at WSOF 6 when he scored a vicious knockout of Fabio Mello with a head kick and punches.  He will take on a very highly regarded prospect in Team Alpha Male fighter, Lance Palmer.

Big Stakes vs. Lance Palmer?
"I'm moving up. Every time I fight I want someone better. This is a chance to prove that I'm The Next Big Thing. I believe I'm world-class caliber and I'm always ready to prove it.
"I'm explosive. I'm pretty athletic and powerful so don't blink."
Impressions of Lance Palmer
"He seems like a tough guy, he pushes the pace and comes to fight. His whole team does that. I think he'll come hard and be aggressive. I'll just stay ready for everything.
"Wherever I see an opening is where I go. If I see an opening on the ground then I'll take it there. If I see someone is uncomfortable standing then I'll keep it standing. I do whatever it takes to win big. But I don't do stupid stuff. A knockout in the 15th minute is the same as a knockout in the first minute. A knockout is a knockout. I'm going to take my time and I'm going to find an opening.
"There isn't any bad blood between us. He's focused on getting ready and I'm focused on getting ready. I'm not a big trash-talker; you can say whatever you want but at the end of the day you've got to fight, so it doesn't really matter. Somebody could call me out, tell me I look stupid or act stupid, but I don't really care."
Big Name Gyms
"
There's nothing wrong with being at a big name gym. Everyone has their own style and me training here in Missouri is my style. I've trained at big name gyms – in fact a few years back I helped Dominick Cruz get ready for two of his camps and it was awesome. I loved being around those guys and the camaraderie was great. But it depends on you personality … and I'm comfortable working with my people.
"When I box, I don't box with MMA guys, I box with professional boxers. When I wrestle, I wrestle with a guy that is 7th in the nation in judo and a wrestler who competes internationally. I don't practice with guys who just do MMA. I practice each sport 'as is' and I practice with people that focus on those individual sports. And that's to my advantage and why I do what I do."

World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor conference call Highlights

spdKMF-h7UA-YyFLEgT_-ObTmnup7PUBk4ZdPNGmo4I.jpg

Pre-fight Media Call Featuring Ray Sefo, Ali Abdelaziz, David Branch,
Jesse Taylor, Georgi Karakhanyan, Rick Glenn and Jessica Aguilar
LAS VEGAS (June 11, 2014) – World Series of Fighting hosted a media conference call in a webinar format on Wednesday, a week before “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” is set to take place with three championship fights on the NBCSN-televised main card Saturday, June 21.

Headliners David Branch (13-3) and Jesse Taylor (27-9), as well as main-card competitors Georgi Karakhanyan, Rick Glenn (14-2), and Jessica "Jag" Aguilar (17-4) joined WSOF President Ray Sefo and WSOF Executive Vice President Ali Abdelaziz on the call.

World Series of Fighting 10 will take place on June 21 at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Five main-card bouts air live on NBCSN at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT local time) and follow an eight-bout preliminary card which will stream live WSOF.com.

The following are highlights from the conference call:

RAY SEFO:

In stacking this card and WSOF 11 with title fights, are you worried about possibly burning out some of your future title matches?

“Absolutely not. We have great talent and all these guys have obviously proven themselves. When we stack up a card it’s because we have the talent to stack up a card. We have the likes of (Jon) Fitch, Justin (Gaethje), Nick Newell, Josh Burkman, and the list goes on and on. These are big names in the sport. Because this is our first NBC mothership fight card it’s only right for us to put some of our top fighters on this card. I believe from Day 1 we have put on amazing cards and we will continue to and get bigger and bigger.”

Is there any decision on where WSOF 12 in August will be held?
“There are a couple of locations right now but we haven’t finalized anything. Obviously we will announce that in the coming weeks. But it will definitely be in the U.S.”

ALI ABDELAZIZ:

“Here we go again with WSOF 10. We have some great fights from top to bottom… This machine is not going to stop. We want to be the best show in the world. We want to be the best MMA show on the planet, and that’s what we’re looking forward to doing.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Jessica Aguilar is the No. 1 115-pound woman in the world. She’s the complete package and she’s been around the sport for a long time. She’s a true veteran of MMA.”

Is there any idea who would be in line for the winner of the Branch-Taylor fight?

“Yes, if you go by the rankings, most likely the winner of this fight would fight Yushin Okami. This is probably the next matchup but we will have to see. We have a big fight on our hands and I believe both David Branch and Jesse Taylor on June 21 have something to prove because they are fighting for the first-ever World Series of Fighting Middleweight title. I’m sure they are both going to put on a great fight for the fans and I just can’t wait for this fight.”

DAVID BRANCH:

“I’m a fighter that doesn’t have any weakness. I don’t have any holes in my game. Wrestling, jiu-jitsu, striking, cage wrestling. It doesn’t matter. I’m ready for everything. I don’t just prepare for wrestling. That’s how I’ve always prepared. There are some people that have similar styles and so you have to go with something else, but I’m not worried if I have to fight from my back.

“I would love to get the finish (knockout), but I don’t rush anything. If it’s there and I get the opportunity I would definitely take it. There’s no doubt about it. That’s always been my style.

“For me it’s all mental. I’ve had a few holes in my game that I’ve had to change up. I’ve been working hard and I’m a hard worker and I’ve been doing everything possible to sharpen up my game. I think one of the turning points was talking to Dan Gable. He started telling me stuff about my game I really didn’t even know, and it was a really cool talk. From then on I just realized that I a Goddamn beast and I just went out there and started hurting dudes, in training and in fights. I just turned into a completely different person and I just don’t give a damn. When it’s time to go out there it’s time to smash.”

JESSE TAYLOR:
“This title would mean the world to me. I’ve been traveling the globe, and it’s hard to get respect in this sport. I’m going to show my skills next Saturday on this high-level show.

“The last time I fought in Las Vegas was back in the old Ultimate Fighter days. So it’s kind of sentimental and feels like I’ve come full circle. I get another chance and I don’t want to lose out on this second opportunity.”

GEORGI KARAKHANYAN:

“I don’t care about the respect and all of that; I just go in there and fight my fights. I’m just happy that I became the first champion for such a great organization as World Series of Fighting and I’m looking to go out there onJune 21 and, like always, putting on an exciting show. I have a very tough opponent in front of me and I’m ready for everything. I can’t wait.”

RICK GLENN:

“This is a huge opportunity. It was unfortunate I wasn’t able to make the fight in December, but thankful that they have given me the opportunity for this fight now so I get my shot. It means the world to me. It sucked to have to back out of a fight and I’ve never had to do that before. It sucked knowing I should be in there and watching (Karakhanyan-Palmer). They are both solid opponents. I’m not really thinking about belts and stuff, and I’m just really looking forward to this fight.”

JESSICA AGUILAR:

Do you feel like you’re the best strawweight fighter in the world?
“Yes, I do. I’ve been in the sport for about eight and a half years now and I’ve fought some top-level contenders and I’ve beaten the best of the best. So at this point I’ve proven myself over and over again and I feel like I’m No. 1 in the world in my weight class. My next goal is to be pound for pound the best female fighter in the world. So I’ll keep proving myself till I get there.

“(Emi Fujino) has fought in all different aspects of MMA. She has fought some of the same opponents as I have… A lot of people don’t know these Japanese fighters. They come out like Samurais. It’s do or die.”

LAS VEGAS and STAMFORD, Conn. – May 27, 2014 -- NBC Sports Group and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) have reached a multi-year agreement extending and broadening NBCSG’s exclusive rights to televise the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion's events through 2017, it was announced today.

The multi-year renewal extends the partnership, which began with World Series of Fighting’s debut in November 2012, and includes multi-platform rights to the organization’s events, which will be televised on NBCSN and NBC and featured on NBC’s digital platforms.

NBC Sports Group will televise live 14 World Series of Fighting events this year, including NBC’s first-ever broadcast of mixed martial arts when “World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell” takes place July 5, followed by a year-end card on NBC on December 27. Additional events will be added to the NBCSG schedule in ensuing years.

To date, NBCSN has televised all World Series of Fighting events live, as well as two World Series of Fighting Canada events and seven unique editions of “WSOF Future Champs” and “Unstoppable: Best of World Series of Fighting.”

World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo, who is also a six-time kickboxing world champion and Hall of Famer added, “We have enjoyed tremendous success as a young company with the great people at NBCSG, and we are thrilled to be continuing on this journey with them for years to come. World Series of Fighting will continue to put on premier MMA events around the world with some of the world’s best fighters, and we’re so proud to be able to share it with all of NBC and NBCSN's viewers."

NBCSN airs the first event following today's announcement on Saturday, June 21, when “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The star-studded event features a championship triple header, including a main event of David Branch (13-3) vs. Jesse "JT Money" Taylor (27-9) for World Series of Fighting's inaugural middleweight title, as well as dual co-main events with World Series of Fighting featherweight champion Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (23-3-1) vs. Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (14-2) and the No. 1 female strawweight fighter in the world and current World Series of Fighting champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (17-4), who will defend her belt against Japanese contender Emi “The Kamikaze Angel” Fujino (13-7).

Watch World Series of Fighting on March 29, Download and Play in WSOF/Shout TV Game To Win a $10,000 Ducati Monster Street Bike

LAS VEGAS, (March 18, 2014) - On March 29, when World Series of Fighting welterweight champion Steve Carl and challenger Rousimar Palhares headline World Series of Fighting 9, live on NBCSN, fans will find out who is the better fighter, but who is the smartest World Series of Fighting fan?  For the first time ever, that question will be answered when fans participate in SHOUT TV's "Champions Challenge" game.

The stakes are high as the fan that racks up the most points will win a new Ducati Monster street bike valued at nearly $10,000.

While stars such as Marlon Moraes, Josh Rettinghouse, Yushin Okami, Josh Burkman and Tyler Stinson compete in the cage, fans watching the event live at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel or on television at home can collide "mano y mano" in a battle of wits for cash, prizes and a Ducati 696 motorcycle.

The popular "Champions Challenge" game allows fans to intellectually spar against one another during this and other live events by trying to predict the outcomes of certain scenarios such as, "Which fighter will land the most leg kicks?" or "Which fighter will win?"

The challenge will be played during the World Series of Fighting 9, 10 and 11 live events thanks to a recent partnership between the skyrocketing Las Vegas-based pro fight league and SHOUT TV, the leader in real-time fan engagement.

"After the fights, somebody's riding home on a brand new Ducati," said SHOUT TV CEO Darl McBride. "SHOUT is partnering with World Series of Fighting to bring a new twist to cagefighting. Instead of just wondering which fighter will win, fans will be asking themselves 'How big of a prize can I win tonight?' Why just be a fan or a spectator when you could be a player or a participant?  Think of it as a series of intellectual cage matches for fans.

"We think SHOUT and World Series of Fighting are very synergistic. Why should fighters be the only winners? Why can't the fans win, too?"

"SHOUT TV is the leader at engaging and entertaining sports fans in trivia and one-on-one competitions, so they're a great fit for World Series of Fighting and our fast-growing international expansion," said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo. "MMA fans are the most rabid and loyal fans in the world, and this free application offers one more tool for fans to interact and win valuable prizes while watching our world-class athletes fight during live broadcasts."

SHOUT TV's real-time challenges have engaged and entertained fans competing against each other during the Super Bowl, soccer, NFL, NBA and MLB games, as well as the Daytona 500, Oscars, Grammys and reality shows like "The Bachelor."

Signing up and competing in the SHOUT fan competitions is free and fast. SHOUT can be downloaded by visiting the Apple, iPhone or Android stores (using search word: "Shout"). SHOUT can also be downloaded from this link: http://www.shout2win.com. Prizes awarded to fan winners during the WSOF events will range from gift cards to Amazon or Starbucks ($5 up to $25) to iPads and Xboxes, all the way up to the Ducati Monster.

JARRELL "BIG BABY" MILLER LOOKS TO SHINE ON NBC THIS SATURDAY

Press ReleaseFor Immediate Release
HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT JARRELL MILLER
Jarrel Miller.jpg

January 17, 2013 - On Saturday January 19th, live from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, undefeated heavyweight Jarrell Miller (4-0 4 KOs) will face off against Joey Dawejko (7-1-1 3 KOs) of Philadelphia in a scheduled 4 rounder.  The fight will be part of the NBC Sports Networks televised lineup, which includes the main event between Gabriel Campillo and Sergey Kovalev.

Miller is a flamboyant fighter with a big personality to go along with his big right hand.  Miller has accumulated 4 KO/TKO victories in his 4 professional fights as a boxer, although he also maintains an undefeated record as a kick boxer, competing in some past K-1 events.  Miller stands 6'4" and he will enjoy a 6 inch height advantage in this matchup.

Dawejko will be a step up in competition for Miller and with the fight being televised on NBC Sports Network the scene is set perfectly for Miller to showcase his brand of fighting.

"I'm going to take full advantage of this opportunity to be on TV and I plan on making a lot of new fans," Miller said. "I'm going to put a new spin on the heavyweight division and I think people will appreciate my outlook, so plan on getting familiar with me. I know what I'm capable of doing, it's everyone else that is unfamiliar with my talents and I plan on taking everyone to school on January 19th."
