Manheim, PA – In an effort to assist Beat the Streets New York City in furthering its mission, The Hershey Company, in partner with the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), donated 30 laptops to the non-profit on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Beat the Streets New York is a non-profit organization located in New York City that’s goal is to help youth in underserved communities reach their full athletic and human potential through learning and participating in the sport of amateur wrestling.

“We work hard to provide our student athletes an environment where they not only learn to wrestle but more important where they learn to become successful in life,” said Beat the Streets Executive Director Jim Fallis. “These laptops are an important part of our life skills program and are used by them in academic services. In addition these laptops will be used in a variety of ways throughout the school year for administering our tournaments. “

Beat the Streets was founded in 2006 and since its beginnings the organization has grown from helping 300 kids to now reaching more than 2000. Additionally the organization now has the capacity to work with more than 120 inner city middle and high school programs.

The 30 laptops given to Beat the Streets come from a larger donation of 100 that The Hershey Company gifted to the NWCA in a prior demonstration of generosity. Before the laptops were given to Beat the Streets they were loaned to tournament organizers around the nation for live scoring.

“On behalf of our NWCA board of directors and our president Rob Koll, we are thrilled to leverage the generosity of The Hershey Company to provide some of our most underfunded high school and middle school wrestling programs in America with laptop computers,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “The best chances we have to really grow participation at the scholastic level is in our inner city schools so we are prepared to do everything possible to provide them whatever resources they need to build success wrestling programs.”
