Krav Maga is the official self-defense and combat fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), and its techniques are used by the Navy Seals, Green Berets and law enforcement and security teams around the world. Ran Nakash is the former Chief Commander of the IDF's Krav Maga training program.
Based on constant motion, Krav Maga employs simultaneous defense and offense and relies on instincts to provide strength under pressure. It can also be adapted to a high-intensity sport and fitness routine: it builds cardiovascular, muscle and core strength, increases lung capacity and improves flexibility. In recent years, Krava Maga moves have been showcased in several popular films, including Skyfall (starring Daniel Craig), the Bourne series (Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner), Mission Impossible 4 (Tom Cruise) and Enough (Jennifer Lopez), among others.
"This is a rare opportunity to learn Krav Maga from the best instructors in the world," says Stacey M. Eisler, Director of 92Y's May Center for Health, Fitness and Sport. "92Y is always looking for ways to bring experts and thought leaders of all stripes into the building - and give the public access to them."
"Krav Maga is a perfect complement to the intense training regimen that all of our athletes pursue at the gym," says Bruce Silverglade, President of Gleason's Gym. "We are thrilled to be able to offer the most authentic and modern form of Krav Maga at Gleason's, as it's being practiced by today's IDF."
