"Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko" Heads to California's Save Mart Center Friday, February 13

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (December 5, 2014) - A thrilling middleweight matchup between two of the most dangerous strikers in all of mixed martial arts will headline a newly-announced Bellator MMA event, as knockout artist Melvin "No Mercy" Manhoef (29-12-1) meets fellow striker and former Bellator MMA middleweight champ Alexander "Storm" Shlemenko (50-9).

"Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko," which takes place Feb. 13 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker announced the new matchup on Friday's edition of AXS TV's "Inside MMA."

Tickets for "Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko" go on sale next Friday, Dec. 12 and can be purchased at The Save Mart Center box office, Ticketmaster.com, or Bellator.com.

"You take Melvin Manhoef and Alexander Shlemenko, two fighters with a combined 56 knockout victories between them, and put them in a cage, and you know exactly what you're going to get," Coker said. "These two fighters have both been known to stand in the pocket and trade bombs. This will be an absolute firefight, and we've got a number of other great fights planned for the card that we'll be announcing very soon."

Surinamese-Dutch striker Manhoef has been one of the most feared strikers in MMA for nearly two decades. A former world champion kickboxer, 27 of Manheof's 29 career victories have come by way of knockout, a stunning 93 percent rate.

Manhoef made his Bellator MMA debut in September, scoring a first-round knockout of slugger Doug "The Rhino" Marshall before suffering a disappointing loss to fast-rising striker Joe Schilling. Now Manhoef looks to rebound and flash the kind of power that has seem him earn career wins over the likes of Mark Hunt, Kazushi Sakuraba, Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos, Denis Kang, Kazuo Misaki and Ian Freeman, to name just a few.

Meanwhile, the Russian-born Shlemenko has spent the past four years fighting under the Bellator MMA banner, already appearing in 14 contests for the organization. The 30-year-old Shlemenko picked up two previous Bellator MMA tournament titles and claimed the promotion's middleweight world championship with a February 2013 win over Maiquel Falcao. He would go on to defend the belt successfully three times before losing the title to current champ Brandon Halsey this past September.

Shlemenko is a 10-year veteran of the sport whose devastating striking, complete with crushing knees and highlight-reel spinning strikes, has already registered 50 career wins, 29 of which have come by knockout.

Bellator 126 Full Card Finalized Friday, September 26th From Phoenix’s Grand Canyon University Arena

Shlemenko vs. Halsey Headlines; Held vs. Pitbull Featured

Newport Beach, Calif. (September 9, 2014) – A storm is heading to Phoenix as Alexander Shlemenko will return to the Bellator cage on Friday, September 26^th to defend his Bellator middleweight title against Brandon Halsey live on Spike TV from Grand Canyon University Arena. The event will also feature the Bellator Lightweight Tournament Final and a full preliminary card. Tickets are on sale now and available at the GCU Arena Box Office, GCUArena.com or Bellator.com.

Former heavyweight tournament finalist Ryan Martinez will kick-off the Spike.com portion of the night in a fight against Nick Rossborough. In a battle of heavy-hitters, Rossborough is ready to grab his first Bellator victory, but will have to hold off the powerful Martinez who has recorded five KO wins and is looking for the finish on September 26th.

In a face-off of Arizona natives, Jacob Ortiz will fight Clifford Starks in a middleweight bout. After a two-year absence from the cage, Ortiz is anxious to make his mark in front of his home state crowd against Starks, who is coming off of a decision victory in his Bellator debut at Bellator 100.

Hailing from Guam, Joe Taimanglo returns to the Bellator cage to face Michael Parker. The former featherweight semifinalist holds an impressive 19-6 record and has won 10 of his previous 12 fights. Parker has tallied eight of his 11 victories by KO or submission and plans on ending the fight with Taimanglo as quickly as possible in front of the GCU Arena fans.

Making his Bellator debut, Arizona’s own Estevan Payan will fight Derek Campos in a lightweight battle. No stranger to the Bellator cage, Campos has won five of his previous six fights and holds a 3-1 Bellator record. Payan is known for his knockout power and recorded four of his last five victories by KO.

Rounding out the preliminary card will be Phoenix native Larue Burley as he faces fellow Arizona resident Raymond Pina. Dan Charles will meet Stuart Austin in a heavyweight fight and submission ace Brandon Girtz will put his skills to the test against Benny Madrid.

Alexander Shlemenko Returns To Defend Middleweight Title Friday, September 26th At Bellator 126 From Phoenix’s Grand Canyon University Arena

Newport Beach, Calif. (August 13, 2014) – A storm is heading to Phoenix as Alexander Shlemenko will return to the Bellator cage on Friday, September 26^th to defend his Bellator middleweight title against Brandon Halsey live on Spike TV from Grand Canyon University Arena. After a brief move to the light heavyweight division after challenging Tito Ortiz, Shlemenko returns to the division he has dominated, amassing a 50-8 career record, including 29 career knockouts. The Russian native will now face Bellator Middleweight Tournament winner Brandon Halsey, who enters the fight with a spotless 7-0 record, including recent victories over Brett Cooper, Joe Pacheco and Joe Yager.

The night will also feature the Lightweight Tournament Final as Patricky Pitbull will battle Marcin Held for a guaranteed title shot and a $100,000 tournament prize. Patricky earned his finals spot with dominate performances over David Rickels and Derek Campos. Held is currently riding a four-fight win streak with victories over Derek Anderson, Rodrigo Cavalheiro and Nate Jolly, and has his sights set on capturing his first Bellator title shot. The 22-year-old Polish phenom has now taken his fight training to the United States and is looking to elevate his game to the next level.

“I’m very excited for this fight, it’s been a long time coming and I’m ready to finally face Pitbull,” Held said. “I’m training at one of the best gyms in the world with Duke Roufus and Roufusport, and my sparring partners have really elevated my game. Even with my standup improving, my style isn’t going to change, I’m always going to look for the finish, but now I’m even more dangerous on my feet.”

Known across MMA as one of the best up and coming fighters in the sport, Bubba Jenkins returns to face Bellator newcomer Alejandro Villalobos in a featherweight feature fight. Known simply as “The Highlight Kid”, Jenkins has collected six finishes in his seven professional wins, and is looking to climb the featherweight ranks with a win on September 26^th from Grand Canyon Arena.

Bantamweights return as Ed “Wild” West returns to the cage for the first time in over a year when he takes on Mike Richman, who is making the drop to 135 lbs. Two long time Bellator veterans, the two finishers are looking to make their mark in the division and are both closing in on title contention.

"The weight cut and training are going great,” Richman said. “I'm fired up to get back in the Bellator cage and throw some thunda’ at bantamweight and begin my title run."

All Bellator Tournament Winners Now In World Title Shot Pool

Newport Beach, Calif. (June 12, 2014) – With Bellator’s 2014 Summer Series having just begun last Friday, Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney announced today that the promotion has made an addition to its real sport, tournament based format that allows former Bellator Tournament winners the potential to be granted a World Title fight without going back into The Toughest Tournament in Sports.

“Just like we’ve done since day one, any fighter who wins The Toughest Tournament in Sports will still be guaranteed a World Title fight,” Rebney said. “The addition I’m making here, that I’m really excited about, is if you’ve won a tournament, you’ll join an elite group of athletes who we can grant a world title fight to at any time.” 

“For example, if you win a tournament, fight for the World Title and lose, you forever remain in that elite group of fighters who can be awarded another shot at the title. We will place some fighters back into tournaments, while others may lose a world title fight, win some non-tournament fights and be awarded another shot at the title. We won’t be implementing any hard and fast rule as to when a fighter will go back into a tournament and when he’ll fight non-tournament fights and potentially be granted another title shot.  What’s great about this addition is that it allows us to stay true to our core format, where title shots can only be earned through a tournament win, while also providing us tremendous flexibility to make the great fights fans want to see.  And, we can do all this while keeping our fighters busy and battling in meaningful fights on a re-occurring basis. This is another step in our constant evolution and most importantly it’s a win for the fighters and the fans.”
