Kalenga targeting Lebedev

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

CORK, Ireland (Nov. 18, 2014) - Fresh off of his devastating 12th round knockout of previously undefeated No. 2 contender "Dangerous" Denton Daley (12-1) this pastSaturday night, as the official WBA mandatory challenger, Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Youri "El Toro" Kalenga (21-1, 14 KOs), has set his sights next on WBA "regular" champion Denis Lebedev (26-2, 20 KOs) with a loftier goal to eventually unify all the world titles.

"I want to fight Lebedev next and my promoter, Michael King (King Sports Enterprises), will bring that fight to Los Angeles," Kalenga said. "Once I beat Lebedev, I will take on the other world champions - (IBF) Yoan Pablo Hernandez, (WBO) Marco Huck or (WBC) Grigory Drozd. Give me any and all of them!"

The 26-year-old Kalenga, the Congolese fighter who lives in France, captured the Interim WBA title this past June in Monte Carlo, taking a 12-round split decision (116-112, 115-113, 113-115) over Mateusz Masternak (32-1).

Last Saturday evening, in front of 6,000 partisan fans in the first world heavyweight championship bout held in Mississauga, Canada, hometown favorite Daley was dropped by Kalenga in the ninth, displaying heavy-handed combinations that bludgeoned him helplessly to the mat. Daley trailed badly on the scorecards going into the final round and the former college basketball player decided to go for broke. Kalenga finished him off, though, with two more knockdowns in the 12th round. Referee Charlie Fitch halted the action at the 1:52 mark after a three-punch explosion left Daley out on his feet before going unconscious and motionless on the canvas for several moments.

An aggressive fighter and vicious puncher, Kalenga embodies his nickname - "El Toro" - relentlessly coming forward, throwing powerful bombs from all different angles. His style promises to make him a hit with fans all over the world.

Fighting in Daley's backyard wasn't a problem for Kalenga, whose last seven fights have been in seven different countries - Canada, Monaco, Ireland, Spain, France, Latvia and Germany.

"I love to fight and for me it doesn't matter where," Kalenga noted. "If I fight in my opponent's territory, he thinks that he has the advantage but, once every one clears out of that ring before the first bell, it is just me and him. Of course, the officials will sway towards the home fighter, so, that's why I go for a knock out."

Kalenga's last five fights have been under the guidance of international boxing manager Gary Hyde (Nowhere2hyde), who also manages WBA Super & WBO super bantamweight championGuillermo "The Jackal" Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs), the two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist; former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (31-1, 18 KOs), the current IBF middleweight mandatory challenger; Georgian junior welterweight prospect Levan "The Wolf" Ghvamichava (13-1, 10 KOs) and French junior middleweight title-holder Michel Soro (23-1-1, 13 KOs.

"Youri is tough, rugged, brutal fighter and, at 26, he will be a big force at 200 pounds," Hyde commented. "Youri has raw power in both hands and he's also a showman. He's going to be a huge star once U.S. fans get to see him in action. He didn't want to leave the final outcome to the judges, hence, scoring a devastating knockout in round 12. Daley was game and he did put up a good fight."

Kalenga is now the mandatory challenger for Lebedev, whose last fight was a second-round stoppage of Pawel Kolodziej (33-0) this past September. The Russian southpaw had lost his WBA title belt May 17, 2013 to WBA "Champion in Recess" Guillermo Jones (KO11), but Lebedev was reinstated as WBA champion after Jones failed a post-fight drug test.

Lebedev, however, has never fought outside of Russia and Europe, so for Team Kalenga to make a fight in the United States with Lebedev is a long-shot unless it goes to purse bid and King Sports Enterprises wins.

"Youri's promoter, King Sports, has huge resources and it is very keen on delivering world title fights," Hyde added. "I am confident that Michael King, CEO of King Sports, will put this fight with Lebedev on in California."

Meanwhile, outside of Europe, Kalenga is the best-kept secret in the cruiserweight division, if not in all of boxing.

In the ring, like a charging bull on Red Bull, Kalenga just keeps coming forward with bad intentions. He made a major statement in his North American debut last weekend. Now, his goal is to settle the score in the WBA with Lebedev, before attempting to unify the world cruiserweight title.

Saturday night in 1st World Championship fight ever in Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada (Nov. 11, 2014) - Former Canadian college basketball player and No. 2 ranked "Dangerous" Denton Daley (12-0, 6 KOs) challenges Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Youri "El Toro" Kalenga (20-1, 13 KOs) Saturday night at Hersey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Kalenga-Daley headlines "World Championship Boxing," promoted by United Boxing Promotions (UBP), the first world title fight ever held in Mississauga, as well the first in the province of Ontario in 4 1/2 years, since Mississauga-native Steve "The Canadian Kid" Molitor defeated Takalani Ndlovu in Rama by 12-round decision for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight championship.

The Kalenga-Daley winner will become the mandatory challenger for WBA World "regular" cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (26-2, 19 KOs).

"We're proud to make history by presenting the first world title fight ever in Mississauga," UBP promoter Don MacDonald commented. "The 6,000 fight fans at Hersey Centre this Saturday night will witness a war between two great fighters. Denton is ready for his first world title shot and Kalenga deserves credit for putting his title on the line in his opponent's backyard. A lot is at stake for both fighters."

With a victory the 32-year-old Daley, who has lost only one round in his 12 professional fights to date, will become the only Canadian-born world champion today in boxing. A former college basketball player in Canada, as well as a college graduate with a degree in business, Daley didn't start boxing until 2010. He is trained by two-time world title challenger Syd Vanderpool.

The late-blooming Daley pitched a complete shutout against former world champion Richard Hall (30-11) in 2013, winning all 10 rounds on each of the three judges' scorecards, followed by June 1, 2013 with his North American Boxing Association (NABA) cruiserweight title winning performance against Faisal Ibnel Arrami (15-4), who was unable to continue after four rounds due to a shoulder injury. In two NABA title defenses, Daley won 10 and 12-round unanimous decisions, respectively, over Jean Marc Monrose (26-6) and Andres Taylor (21-5-2).

"It is an honor to be given the opportunity to showcase my talent in front of the people who have supported me," Daley said. "My opponent will give me a tough fight which my people have been waiting to see for a long time. I expect a dog fight and may the better man win."

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 26-year-old Kalenga fights out of France, where 16 of his 20 professional fights have been held. His initial title defense against Daley will mark the African's first pro fight outside of Europe.

Kalenga captured the Interim WBA crown in his last fight this past June 21 in Monte Carlo, winning a 12-round split decision (116-112, 115-113, 113-115) over Mateusz Masternak (32-1).

Limited tickets, starting at only $20.00, are still available to purchase at the Hershey Centre box office (Gate A entrance), online at www.ticketmaster.ca, or by calling TicketMaster at 1.85.985.5000.

1st World Championship fight coming to Mississauga Interim WBA cruiserweight champ Youri Kalenga Defends title against undefeated Denton Daley Nov. 15 at Hershey Centre in Ontario, Canada

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada (September 3, 2014)) - Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Youri "El Toro" Kalenga (20-1, 13 KOs) will defend his title November 15 against undefeated, No. 4-rated "Dangerous" Denton Daley (12-0, 6 KOs) at Hersey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Kalenga-Daley will headline "World Championship Boxing," promoted by United Boxing Promotions (UBP). It will mark the first world title fight ever held in Mississauga, as well the first in the province of Ontario in 4 1/2 years, since Mississauga-native Steve "The Canadian Kid" Molitor defeated Takalani Ndlovu in Rama by 12-round decision for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight championship. Kalenga-Daley will also be the first major world championship fight held in the Toronto market since March 29, 1966, when hometown hero George Chuvalo lost a 15-round unanimous decision at Maple Leaf Gardens to world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali.

The Kalenga-Daley winner will become the mandatory challenger for the winner of a September 27th WBA World "regular" cruiserweight championship match in Moscow between defending champion Denis Lebedev (25-2, 19 KOs) and unbeaten challenger Pawel Kododziej (33-0, 18 KOs).

"United Boxing Promotions is proud to present this fight at the Mississauga Hershey Centre," UBP promoter Don MacDonald commented. The 6,000 fight fans that will ram the facility will witness what will be a war between two great fighters.

"Youri is a true warrior! Instead of hiding and fighting bums in the cruiserweight division, he is willing to come to Canada and put his title on the line in his first defense. This in itself defines his character as a true champion."

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 26-year-old Kalenga fights out of  France, where 16 of his 20 professional fights have been held. His initial title defense against Daley will mark the African's first pro fight outside of Europe.

"I am very excited to be defending my WBA interim world title for the first time in Canada against Denton Daley," Kalenga said. "Daley is a good technical fighter with some decent skills. He has never faced any opponent like me and once he feels my big punch power he will lose touch of all his skills."

The 32-year-old Daley has lost only one round in his 12 professional fights to date. Under the guidance of his head trainer, two-time world title challenger Syd Vanderpool, Daley is a former college basketball player in Canada, as well as a college graduate with a degree in business, whose professional boxing career didn't start until 2010.

After pitching a complete shutout against former world champion Richard Hall (30-11) in 2013, winning all 10 rounds on each of the three judges' scorecards, Daley faced Faisal Ibnel Arrami (15-4) on June 1, 2013 for the vacant North American Boxing Association (NABA) cruiserweight title. In a pair of NABA title defenses, Daley has won 10 and 12-round unanimous decisions, respectively, versus Jean Marc Monrose (26-6) and Andres Taylor (21-5-2).

"I'm very excited that Kalenga accepted to take the fight in my hometown as it means a lot to me and, more importantly, my fans," Daley remarked. "Ontario has been waiting for something like this to happen for a while now and I'm the perfect person to deliver because I don't shy away from hard work. Getting this victory will be huge for me and the people of Ontario."

Havoc Boxing Promotions exposes Hamir Gonzalez as boxing poacher for acting as Cruiserweight Santander Silgado's official agent

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

NEW YORK (June 3, 2014) -- Havoc Boxing Promotions has successfully exposed International matchmaker Hamir Gonzalez as a boxing poacher for misrepresenting himself as the official agent for Colombian cruiserweight Santander Silgado (25-2, 20 KOs).

"Anybody who wants to talk about having Santander Silgado fight on a show must deal with Havoc Boxing Promotions," Havoc Boxing Promotions president Rob Diaz explained.  "Otherwise, they can forget about Silgado fighting because we have an exclusive promotional contact with him.  Gonzalez was going around saying it has expired but that isn't true. Our contract with him is valid into 2016."

At substantial cost, Brooklyn-based Havoc Boxing Promotions developed Silgado from an unknown Columbian knockout artist into a world title contender.  In 2012, Silgado lost his first fight as a professional to World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev in Russia.

Havoc Boxing Promotions successful thwarted Gonzalez' attempted to match Silgado in a June 6 main event fight against Danie Venter in South Africa. The promoter of this event, Real Steel Promotions, was unaware that Havoc Boxing Promotions had an exclusive promotional agreement with Silgado.

Havoc Boxing Promotions learned that Gonzalez misrepresented himself to Real Steel Promotions as Silgado's official agent. After receiving a cease and desist letter from Havoc Boxing Promotions, as well as a copy of the valid promotional contract it has with Silgado,  Real Steel Promotions complied and pulled Silgado from its June 6show.

Gonzalez, however, managed to lure an overweight and out-of-shape Silgado into a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver championship match as a late replacement for an injured fighter this past weekend in Moscow against WBC No. 1 ranked Rakhim "The Machine" Chakhkiev (19-1, 14 KOs).

Chakhkiev easily won a 12-round unanimous decision (118-110, 117-111, 117-110) and seriously derailed Silgado's career, costing him his WBC #10, WBA #13 and World Boxing Organization (WBO) #14 ratings.

"Gonzalez is a poacher," Diaz continued.  "He took my 25-1, world-rated fighter to Moscow and was the only person Silgado's corner. We're not alone.  He'claims to represent five fighters who have American-based promoters. We didn't know about this fight in time like the other one to kill it.  We've invested a lot in Silgado, got him into one world title fight, and had him ranked in the top 15 of three organizations.  He went 12 rounds, lost the fight and everything with it because all they cared about was a check.  Silgago was 15 pounds overweight. His belly was over his trunks and he was a heavyweight in a cruiserweight fight. How does he bring my fighter all alone to Russia?  He was the only one in his corner; he's a matchmaker not a trainer. No team, no cut-man, nobody else.

"I've lost a lot of respect for Silgado, too.  He did it for the money.  I thought he had higher standards than that, to be alone in Moscow with a matchmaker in his corner and nobody else.  He told the promoter we didn't promote him.  Silgado could have easily won this fight if he had been in fighting shape. He never should have taken this fight."

Although a relatively small promotional company, Havoc Boxing Promotions LLC is making it clear to Gonzalez and any others misrepresenting Silgado that it intends to fully protect itself and its fighters, up to and including the filing of lawsuits for Tortious Interference.

"This poacher has damaged my investment," Diaz concluded.  "I want everyone in boxing to know that Havoc Boxing will do everything to protect its interests and fighters.  We will not be pushed around by Gonzalez or anybody else and vow to protect ourselves at all costs."

Undefeated 'Dangerous' Denton Daley Positioned to bring world cruiserweight title Back to North America

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada (May 29, 2014) - Undefeated Canadian boxer "Dangerous" Denton Daley (12-0, 6 KOs) is positioned to bring the world cruiserweight title back to North America after a seven-year hiatus.

The last North American-born cruiserweight champions were Hall of Famer Virgil Hill and O'Neil Bell. Europeans and Russians have since dominated the underappreciated weight class situated between light heavyweight and heavyweight.

Currently rated No. 5 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), Daley has lost only one round in his 12 professional fights to date.

The 32-year-old Daley made his professional debut January 16, 2010, stopping Irving Chesnut in the third round.  He first displayed his unlimited potential in his seventh pro fight against two-time Canadian National champion Jason Douglas. Daley destroyed Douglas, the 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Pan-American Games semifinalist, in four dominant rounds.

Under the guidance of his head trainer, two-time world title challenger Syd Vanderpool, Daley has dramatically progressed fight by fight, particularly in the past 1 ½ years, going right through former world champion Richard Hall (DEC10) to capture the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) title, Faisal Ibnel Arrami retired after four rounds for the vacant North American Boxing Association (NABA) championship, and then shutting out Jean Marc Monrose (DEC10) and Andres Taylor (DEC12) in successful NABA title defenses.

Denton Daley 2014 Who Next
Denton Daley 2014 Who Next

Daley's promoter, Don MacDonald (United Promotions) negotiated a fight in Mississauga, Canada between Daley and WBA No. 1 Pawel Kolodziej, of Poland, but the WBA cruiserweight division was recently thrown into flux because Champion in Recess Guillermo Jones was suspended for two years.  Rather than take a risky fight with Daley, Kolodzeij decided to remain in the No. 1 spot in hopes of challenging WBA champion Denis Lebedev, of Russia.

Meanwhile, Lebedev was supposed to fight Jones but that was recently canceled when the latter failed a pre-fight drug test for the second time.  The question now is will Lebedev defend his title against Kolodzeij, or prove he is a true world champion by fighting a challenger from outside his European and Asian comfort zone?

"We definitely want to fight Lebedev and we'll do it in Russia," MacDonald said.

Daley is a well-spoken college graduate with exceptional athleticism for a boxer, as well as a fresh face among cruiserweights who've tended to recycle the same group of opponents during the past few years.  Lebedev vs. Daley can increase popularity and build credibility for the cruiserweight division as a whole, reopening an invaluable North American market for a weight class generally overlooked there for many years.
