Dr. Atlas Foundation to host Cotto vs. Martinez Benefit Party Saturday, June 7 at Jack Demsey's Pub in NYC

                      Lee vs. John Jackson, highlighted by the Cotto vs. Martinez world

Dr. Atlas Foundation to host Cotto vs. Martinez Benefit Party Saturday, June 7 at Jack Demsey's Pub in NYC

NEW YORK (May 29, 2014) - The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation continues its invaluable fundraising in the boxing community Saturday night, June 7, hosting a Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez Benefit Party, at Jack Demsey's Pub (33 West 33rdSt.) in Manhattan.

A $20.00 donation includes entry to Jack Demsey's for giveaways and raffles throughout the evening, highlighted by the viewing of the Cotto vs. Martinez pay-per-view championship fight live on multiple screens from nearby Madison Square Garden.

A portion of the evening's proceeds will go towards projects the Dr. Atlas Foundation is presently working on this week; including home renovations needed for two recently wheelchair-bound people whose insurance policies do not cover such costs and who are financially unable to modify their living quarters on their own.  

Internationally respected boxing color commentator and trainer, Teddy Atlas, founder and chairman of the Dr. Atlas Foundation that's named in his father's honor, will be on hand to participate in the festivities.

"The real Jack Dempsey was a great puncher and I appreciate that the owners of the restaurant with his namesake are using some of that power to help our foundation improve lives," Atlas said.

"We're proud to support the Dr. Atlas Foundation by having this great event at Jack Demsey's," Owner Enda Keenan added.

Atlas Cops & Kids Boxing Program Produces 1st Olympian Marcus Browne

NEW YORK CITY (May 14, 2012) - This summer in London, Staten Island light heavyweight (178 pounds) Marcus Browne will be the first Atlas Cops & Kids Boxing Program product to compete in the Olympic Games, representing Team USA.

Coached by Gary Stark at the Park Hill Boxing Club, Browne is a two-time National PAL champion and 2012 USA Boxing National gold medalist who officially qualified to box in the 2012 Olympics by defeating Felix Valera (Dominican Republic), 12-6, in a quarterfinals match last weekend at the American Qualifier in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Browne went on to capture a gold medal.


The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by renowned boxing trainer and television analyst Teddy Atlas in his father's memory, currently leases gym space for $1.00 a year for its Brooklyn and Staten Island locations.  Operational costs, however, are approximately $50,000 for each gym.  The money is used to pay coaches and to purchase equipment for the boxing program, and to pay a certified teacher who runs the educational component of each gym  The Atlas Cops & Kids Boxing Program presently operates two gyms, in Park Hill and in East Flatbush in Brooklyn, with two new gyms scheduled to open this month at the Berry Houses in Staten Island and in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.
