Lewkowicz Congratulates 'Pilon' Lara for Smashing Debut

Super bantamweight prospect Jorge "Pilon" Lara wanted to put on an impressive performance for his first fight under the promotional banner of Sampson Boxing... Mission accomplished. Fighting on the undercard of Saturday's Molina vs. Bundrage fight at the Oasis Hotel Complex in Cancun, Mexico, Lara (26-0-1, 18 KOs) dominated tough veteran Jovanny Soto, dropping him four times before stopping him in four brutal rounds. It was the first time Lara appeared since signing with Sampson Lewkowicz and Sampson Boxing for his promoters. Lewkowicz says he's more than impressed with the 23-year-old southpaw. "Lara looked like a star tonight," said a happy Lewkowicz. "I am proud to have him in my stable. He is another future champion I have I my stable at 122 lbs that also includes Oscar Escandon, Tyson Cave, Hugo Ruiz, Luis Emmanuel Cusolito, Jhonatan Arenas and Jonathan Guzman." Lara has already scored a first-round TKO over former WBC silver champion Oscar Ibarra and won the WBC FECOMBOX featherweight title with a TKO 6 over then 19-1 Oscar Arenas. The only blemish on Lara's record was an abbreviated technical draw in the first year of his career. Ruiz Travelling to Japan to Unify Against Kameda

On December 4, Los Mochis, Mexico's Hugo "Cuatito" Ruiz (31-1, 28 KOs) will relinquish his Interim WBA World Bantamweight Championship to face "Regular" WBA Bantamweight Champion Koki Kameda (28-1, 17 KOs) at the Bodymaker Colosseum in Osaka, Japan. The hard-punching 26-year-old Ruiz won his interim title in January 2011 with a nine-round technical decision over Alvaro Ruiz, after Ruiz was cut by an accidental headbutt. He has successfully defended the belt four times since then, three by way of knockout. 25-year-old southpaw Kameda is a two-time world champ. He won the WBC Flyweight title in November 2009, but lost it via close decision in his first defense. He then moved up to bantamweight and won his current belt with a December 2010 unanimous decision over Alexander Munoz. He has since made four successful defenses. Kameda is one of the most popular boxers in the world based on TV ratings. His fights draw over 50% of Japanese homes. "Hugo is going into the other guy's backyard in a very big fight for the Regular championship," said his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. "But he is ready for this. Ruiz Back in Action July 7 in Mexico

On July 7 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, promoter Sampson Lewkowicz and his company, Sampson Boxing, in association with Promosiones Del Pueblo, HG Boxing and ECO Boxing, will proudly present Mexico's Hugo "Cuatito" Ruiz (30-1, 27 KOs) defending his WBA Interim Bantamweight title against Jean Sampson (12-1, 7 KOs) of Nicaragua. Sponsored by Grupo Modelo and broadcast by Televisa on its Sabado de Corona Boxing series, the 12-round fight will mark the third time 25-year-old Ruiz has defended the interim belt he won from Francisco Arce in May of last year. 22-year-old Sampson is coming off a huge win over former two-time world champion Rosendo Alvarez in May of this year. "I had an excellent training camp with my whole family, my trainer/father Heriberto Ruiz and my twin brothers, Edel and Heriberto Jr," said Ruiz. "I need to be in top shape because I am waiting for Koki Kameda to recuperate from his injury, so I can unify the titles." Manager Fernando Dominguez added that he cannot wait for his charge to face quality challengers like Nonito Donaire or Abner Mares, while Lewkowicz said he is proud of his young fighter. "Hugo gets better with every fight and will soon get the attention of a major American network because of his ability as a boxer and puncher."
