DON CHARLES: 'KEVIN 'KINGPIN' JOHNSON MIGHT HAVE ALL THE SKILLS BUT HE WON'T HAVE THE BELLY FOR A LONG, HARD, GRUELLING FIGHT ONCE 'DEL BOY' TURNS THE HEAT UP!'

Watch live this Saturday in North America on Fight Network in Canada & PPV in USA

TORONTO (February 11, 2014) -   Reigning European heavyweight king Dereck Chisora knows that if he can reproduce the form and desire that he showed last year, he has a chance of closing out 2014 as the world heavyweight champion.

Now in the best shape of his career, the 30-year-old enigma from Finchley racked-up four successive stoppage wins in 2013, bagging European, plus WBA and WBO International titles en route.

Already ranked highly by all four major sanctioning bodies, Chisora will be seeking to edge yet closer to the Holy Grail when he puts the latter two belts at risk against Atlanta's seasoned former WBC World title challenger Kevin 'Kingpin' Johnson at The Copper Box Arena in London this Saturday (February 15).

Canadian fans may watch all the action on Fight Network, starting at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT), while Americans can view on both cable and satellite pay-per-view for a suggested retail price of $24.95 via DIRECTV, iN Demand, DISH, Avail-TVN.  Integrated Sports Media is distributing this major British boxing event in the United States on behalf of Fight Network.  It may also be viewed in the United States on GFL.TV.

Victory will clear the first hurdles towards a mooted WBO final eliminator against former conqueror Tyson Fury in an outdoor blockbuster this summer.
Whilst  'Del Boy' was  smouldering in the final few days of camp, boxing writer Glynn Evans touched base with his articulate and obliging trainer Don Charles to reflect on Chisora's recent rich form and pontificate about his future.

Last time out against The Czech Republic's Ondrej Pala, 'Del Boy' finished impressively but it was far from a flawless performance. As against Edmund Gerber in the fight previous, Dereck's defence - usually a strength - was down and he was tagged more than once with right hands. As his coach, how did you assess his performance?

"Pretty much as you've just painted it. That wasn't the Dereck Chisora that I'd grown accustomed to in our training camp. The guy (Pala) was able to penetrate and Dereck was hit. It's not only about winning but also about performance level and how Dereck is developing and I wasn't particularly happy. I'm always Dereck's worst critic.Though Dereck won ugly, he's still the current European heavyweight champion and we've been rectifying the problems in the gym."

This Saturday Chisora was originally scheduled to defend his European title against the Ukrainian Andrij Rudenko. Surely, the clash with 'Kingpin' is more meaningful and, therefore, easier to motivate Dereck for?

"Absolutely. Only the diehard boxing community were aware of Rudenko whereas Mr 'Kingpin' Johnson's name is far more widespread. This is certainly a more marketable, more sellable fight and, as you imply, Dereck will rise more for it. That said, without undermining Kevin, I personally believe that Rudenko would have brought the greater threat.  He's not learned how to lose yet. Johnson's already been at the very top and challenged Vitali Klitschko for the world title whereas this would've been Rudenko's FA Cup Final."

What is your assessment of Johnson as a fighter and what gives you confidence that Dereck can take care of him?

"'Kingpin' has a typical US style. He'll have done an awful lot of sparring in the US gyms, will have encountered every style and will know all the tricks. He and Dereck have two common opponents in Tyson Fury and Vitali Klitschko. Obviously I've seen those fights.

"It'll be a very interesting match but we know what we have to do for Dereck to be successful.  Dereck knows exactly how to deal with Johnson's style. The key will be to stop 'Kingpin' from slowing the fight down to his tempo. Dereck can't afford to sit back and wait. Having been to the summit already, I'm not sure that Johnson still has the belly for a long, hard, grueling fight. He might take a rain check when Dereck turns the heat up!"

So what would constitute a good night's work for Dereck Chisora when Saturday's fight is done and dusted? How important is it to Dereck to become the first fighter to stop Johnson? How important is it for him to outshine co-headline act Tyson Fury?

"A good night will be a win, no matter what shape or form that might come in. In football, sometimes you have to win 1-0 and bag the three points. On Saturday evening a win, any win, is absolutely paramount.

"I'll be hoping that Dereck can stay focused and switched on throughout and execute all that we've practiced in the gym.

"Winning by stoppage or outshining Tyson is relevant to us. Fighters deal with opponents in different ways. Vitali Klitschko is a more dangerous opponent than David Haye yet Dereck lasted 12 very hard rounds with Klitschko. David stopped Dereck. Such comparisons mean little."

The recent retirement of Dereck's ex conqueror Vitali Klitschko has opened up the world heavyweight scene. How do you see it unfolding and which match ups for Dereck would particularly excite you?

"The Klitschkos have been in a league of their own for some time now so Vitali's retirement allows a lot more fighters to contend and I envisage the titles swapping hands more regularly over the next 24 months. We certainly intend being in position to collect.

"Of those at the forefront, I particularly like (Bermane) Stiverne. I also expect Fury and (Deontay) Wilder to contend but probably not (Kubrat) Pulev. He's strong but robotic and, at elite level, you have to have skills. World championship heavyweight boxing is not a strong man competition.

"I particularly covet the Wilder fight for Dereck. The contrast in their styles would make for an exciting fight for the fans but I'm very confident that Dereck could be the man to expose him. Deontay has the legs of a sparrow. I don't believe he can do anything once he's pressed backwards and Dereck would force him onto the back foot."

Presently everything is being geared for a rematch between Tyson and Dereck at a soccer stadium this summer. Why did their first fight in July 2011 go so spectacularly wrong for Dereck?

"Dereck was more than capable of defeating Tyson at that stage of their careers. However, there were a lot of personal factors why Dereck shouldn't even have been in a boxing gym at that stage of his life, let alone defending his British and Commonwealth titles against a prospect as talented as Tyson Fury.  But we'll only reveal what those factors are after we've exacted our revenge because I hate making excuses. Tyson landed in the best shape he could possibly be in and was the better man on the night. He deserves all credit for that.
"Dereck should've pulled out, could've pulled out, but he showed himself a true champion and didn't resort to that option. He still lasted the full 12 rounds and has subsequently redeemed himself. Dereck is now in front of Tyson with every governing body."

To what extent did the loss to Fury simmer with Dereck? How long did it take him to recover from it? How important is the need to exact revenge and re-establish himself as Britain's leading heavyweight?

"Remember, that was Dereck's first professional loss so it hit him very hard. His unbeaten record, plus his British and Commonwealth titles, were surrendered in one night so of course it hurt badly. He was required to do a lot of soul searching and examine whether he still had the belly for boxing. But thankfully he has very good people around him; his mum, quality friends, myself and, in Frank Warren, a master class promoter. All played their parts in analyzing where things went wrong, making the necessary changes, and rectifying the situation to aid Dereck's redemption."

In what ways have both fighters subsequently developed?

"Both have developed in all aspects; both are older, stronger physically and mentally, more mature, more experienced.  We rate Tyson highly.  He's a very good fighter but Dereck will be in a far, far better place mentally.  The rematch will be very interesting.  Both will be very near the peak of their careers.

"But Dereck will equalize in the summer and, following redemption, all will be revealed regarding the first fight. That should nicely set up a trilogy, a decider!
"

DEREK CHISORA: 'I'LL CUT JOHNSON DOWN AND THEN IT'S FURY'

Watch live this Saturday in North America on Fight Network in Canada & PPV in USA

Derek Chisora at today's workout

TORONTO (February 10, 2014) -   Dereck Chisora aims to make quick work of Kevin Johnson this Saturday (February 15th) at the Copper Box Arena (London, UK) to send a warning to rival Tyson Fury .

Chisora defends his WBO/WBA International Heavyweight titles against the tough American, who took big-punching Fury the distance in December 2012, and knows he needs an impressive showing to keep on track for his summer grudge match with the Manchester traveller.
Undefeated Fury took Chisora's British and Commonwealth titles and unbeaten record in July 2011 and features as chief support on the undercard this Saturday in a ten-rounder against American Joey Abell.

Del Boy looked razor sharp today as he went through a media work-out at his Finchley base with trainer Don Charles, putting the final touches to his seven-week training camp.

He knows that he'll have to be at his best against veteran Johnson.  As well as Fury, Johnson has taken the heavy shots of former WBC King Vitali Klitschko, taking him the distance in May 2009.

"Johnson's a good strong American fighter with a good reputation, just what I need to make me perform to my best," Chisora said. "He's a tough boy, he's taken Fury and Klitschko the distance, and if I can become the first man to stop him in then it send a big message to Fury and the rest of the heavyweights out there. The focus is on Johnson for this fight, Fury will be there in the background and he's next, but I'm going out there to put everything on the line and take him out."

Fight Network to air British Boxing live Feb. 15 in North America Showcasing Derek Chisora & Tyson Fury

LIVE IN CANADA ON FIGHT NETWORK & PPV IN USA
4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT

For Immediate Release
TORONTO (January 29, 2014) - Fight Network announced today that it will air theFebruary 15 Frank Warren-promoted card in North America, showcasing world heavyweight contenders Derek "Del Boy" Chisora and Tyson Fury in separate bouts, live from Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Integrated Sports Network is distributing this major British boxing event in the United States on behalf of Fight Network.

"We are excited to present our first pay-per-view broadcast in the U.S. market," said Leonard Asper, president and CEO of Anthem Media Group Inc., the parent company of Fight Network. A U.S. expansion has always been a major priority. We're already available in select markets across the country, but this could be the first time opportunity for many American viewers to get a taste of the world-class fights that Fight Network delivers week in and week out."

Chisora (19-4, 13 KOs), also the reigning European heavyweight champion, will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International and World Boxing Association (WBA) International titles in the 12-round main event against former world title challenger Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson (29-4-1, 14 KOs).

Derek Chisora

Chisora, fighting out of London, is ranked among the top 13 heavyweights in the world by all four major governing bodies: WBO No. 2, World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 5, and WBA No. 13. Last July, the former world title challenger and Zimbabwe native knocked out previously unbeaten American heavyweight Malik Scott (35-0-1) in the sixth round for the vacant WBO International crown, followed only two months later by a fifth-round technical knockout of Edmund Gerber (23-1) for the vacant European title. In his last action this past November, Chisora stopped Ondrej Pala (32-3) in the third round, successfully defending his WBO International title, as well as for the vacant WBA International Championship.

Johnson, fighting out of Atlanta, Georgia, is a former IBF Australian heavyweight champion who defeated Alex Leapai (25-3-3) by ninth round TKO in 2012. Leapai currently is the WBO No. 1 mandatory challenger for champion Wladimir Klitschko. Johnson has also defeated former WBA heavyweight champion Bruce Seldon and previously undefeated Devin Vargas (17-0), both by stoppage.

Chisora and Johnson, interestingly enough, both lost to now retired WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Fury.

Since knocking out Steve Cunningham last April in his American debut, Fury's career has been somewhat derailed by a pair of canceled British mega-fights with former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. The 6' 9" Irish-Mancunian is ranked No. 7 by the WBO and No. 8 by the WBC, plus No. 5 by The Ring Magazine.

Tyson Fury (R)

In addition to Cunningham, Chisora and Johnson, Fury has also beaten Vinny Maddalone, Martin Rogan and previously undefeated Nevin Pajkic. Fury takes on multi-tattooed Argentinian invader Gonzalo Omar "El Paton" Baslie (61-8, 28 KOs) in the 10-round co-feature. Basile is the IBF Latino heavyweight title-holder and has held several other belts during his 11-year pro career.

The Chisora and Fury fights are considered a prelude to a potential rematch this summer for Chisora's European crown with world title implications.

Also on the Feb. 15 card are two other 10-round title fights. Undefeated WBO European super middleweight champion Frank "Wise Guy" Buglioni (11-0, 8 KOs), rated No. 12 by the WBO, defends against Italian challenger Gaetano Nespro (21-9-1, 3 KOs). Unbeaten British favorite Bradley Skeete (14-0, 4 KOs) and former WBA super lightweight champion "Vicious" Vivian Harris (31-9-2, 19 KOs) square off for the vacant WBA Intercontinental welterweight title.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

In the Golden Boy Live! main event, airing on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes, heavyweight star Antonio "The Magic Man" Tarver returns to action to face Mike Sheppard for the vacant NABA Heavyweight crown. In the co-main event, undefeated bantamweight Randy "El Matador" Caballero makes his Florida debut against local southpaw Jessy Cruz of Miami. Also featured on the card will be unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic "Trouble" Breazeale, who takes on Nagy Aguilera in an eight-round televised bout.

"I'm happy to put this deal together between Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, said Juan Lazaro Jimenez, manager of Luis Ortiz. I am also excited about the possibilities that will see us lead Luis Ortiz to the world heavyweight championship."

"I'm proud to be fighting for Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, and I'm going to give a great show on November 26, said Luis Ortiz. "I'll be looking for the knockout from the opening bell, and as excited as the fans will be, I'm even more excited to be fighting in and representing the United States, which has been my home for the past four years."

A 1992 Olympian who represented Puerto Rico in the Barcelona Games, Alex Gonzales (20-8, 10 KO's) is a veteran competitor who can match Ortiz in world-class experience as both an amateur and a professional. Winner of two of his last four bouts, Gonzales has waited for an opportunity like this and plans on making the most of it when he steps in the ring against his unbeaten foe.

Tarver vs. Sheppard, a 10-round bout for the vacant Interim NABA Heavyweight title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O'Reilly Auto Parts. The BB&T Center doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 6:45 p.m. ET. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes bilingual simulcast will air live at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

HEAVYWEIGHTS COLLIDE TUESDAY, NOV. 26 ON GOLDEN BOY LIVE! UNDERCARD WHEN DOMINIC BREAZEALE SQUARES OFF AGAINST NAGY AGUILERA AND ODLANIER SOLIS FACES KEVIN JOHNSON

SOUTH FLORIDA STARS STACK FIGHT CARD AT THE BB&T CENTER
IN SUNRISE, FL

SUNRISE, FLORIDA (Nov. 12) - It's a night of heavyweight action at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. as the Tuesday, Nov. 26 edition of Golden Boy Live! not only showcases heavyweights Antonio Tarver and Mike Sheppard in the FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes main event for the vacant Interim NABA Heavyweight title, but also features two heavyweight showdowns in the undercard bouts.  Unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic "Trouble" Breazeale takes on Nagy Aguilera in an eight-round televised bout and veteran contenders Odlanier "La Sombra" Solis and Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson meet in a 10-round non-televised bout for the IBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title.

In the evening's 10-round co-main event, undefeated bantamweight Randy "El Matador" Caballero makes his Florida debut against local southpaw Jessy Cruz of Miami.  Cruz tops a roster of Miami-based talent featured on the Nov. 26 fight card.

An intimidating force at 6-foot-6, Dominic Breazeale (7-0, 7 KO's) has taken out all comers in his path since turning pro after the 2012 London Olympics.  In his last fight on Sept. 12, the former quarterback showcased his skills with a third-round technical knockout over Jon Hill.  Now, the 28-year-old from Glendale, Calif. is ready to step things up on Nov. 26 against Nagy Aguilera.

A native of Santo Domingo, who now calls New York City home, the 27-year-old Nagy Aguilera (18-7, 12 KO's) has a wealth of experience he plans on using on Nov. 26.  A veteran of fights against heavyweight stars Antonio Tarver, Samuel Peter, Chris Arreola and Tomasz Adamek, Aguilera has won three of his last four bouts, a hot streak he takes into the ring against Breazeale.

A six-time Cuban National Champion and 2004 Cuban Olympic Gold Medalist, Odlanier Solis (20-1, 13 KO's) is one of the greatest boxers Cuba has ever produced.  With three consecutive wins since his 2011 challenge of WBC Heavyweight World Champion Vitali Klitschko that ended due to a knee injury, Solis is well on his way back to the top and looking forward to his first fight in his adopted state of Florida, residing in Miami, since 2010.

Ten-year pro Kevin Johnson (29-3-1, 14 KO's) is a former heavyweight world title challenger who has won seven of nine bouts since extending Vitali Klitschko into the championship rounds during their 2009 fight.  Coming off of a knockout over Australia's Solomon Haumono in April, 2013, the 34-year-old from Neptune, N.J., is ready for his meeting with Solis.

Adding to the undercard action, one of the light heavyweight division's emerging stars, 26-year-oldThomas Williams (14-0, 10 KO's) of Washington, D.C., looks to follow up his 2013 wins over Jason Smith, Kevin Engel and Otis Griffin with another big victory in a 10-round match against Yusef Mack(31-6-2, 17 KO's) of Philadelphia.

Opening the night will be three Miami natives.  Junior lightweight Albert Bell (2-0, 1 KO) faces Bayamon, Puerto Rico's Angel Hernandez (1-2) in a four-round bout.  Making their professional debuts in four-round fights will be welterweight Erickson Lubin and featherweight Dennis Galarzafacing Moca, Puerto Rico's Jesus Sosa (0-1) and Arecibo, Puerto Rico's Harold Torres, respectively.

Tarver vs. Sheppard, a 10-round bout for the vacant Interim NABA Heavyweight title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O'Reilly Auto Parts.  The BB&T Center doors open at 7:00 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 8:00 p.m. ET.  The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes bilingual simulcast will air live at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.
