As for Honig, known to most all as "Scooter," Salita met him in 2000, before he won the NY Golden Gloves.    "'Scooter is one of the best conditioning trainers in the world," said Salita, who holds a 35-2-1record as a professional, and is contemplating another return to the ring in the first half of 2015. Ring 8 honoring Emile Griffith Saturday morning memorial service in New York

PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release NEW YORK (June 20, 2014) - Ring 8 will co-host a memorial service for Hall of Fame boxer Emile Griffith (85-24-2, 23 KOs) tomorrow morning (Saturday, June 21 at 10 a.m.) at St. Michael Cemetery in East Elmhurst, New York.  His son, Luis Griffith, and family will also co-host the ceremony. The cemetery is located off Astoria Avenue and Griffith's gravesite is in Section 19, located near the administration building.  His tombstone references him being a Ring 8 member as well as its board member for 20 years. The beloved Griffith died last July 22 at the age of 75.  Born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, he moved to New York City, where he was a standout amateur boxer.  In 1958, he won the New York Daily News, New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, and Intercity Golden Gloves. His 19-year professional career started in 1958 and ended in 1977.  Griffith was a five-time World welterweight and two-time World middleweight champion.  Emile's impressive list of fighters he defeated includes Nino Benvenuto, Dick Tiger (2), Joey Archer (2), Bennie Briscoe, Florintino Fernandez, Gasper Ortega (2), Benny Paret (2), Gypsy Joe Harris, Denny Moyer (2), Don Fullmer and Luis Manuel Rodriguez. In 1985, Griffith was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, followed five years later by his induction into the inaugural class of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Prior to his death, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the New York State Hall of Fame, sponsored by Ring 8, in 2012. Lonnie Bradley & Julian Williams Ring 8 Guest Speakers Tuesday night in New York

NEW YORK (June 16, 2014) - Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight champion Lonnie Bradley (29-1-1, 21 KOs) and unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Julian "J Rock" Williams (16-0-1, 10 KOs) are this month's scheduled Ring 8 guest speakers tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 17 starting at 7 p.m.) at historic Waterfront Crabhouse in Long Island City, New York. Born in South Carolina, Bradley fought out of New York City and captured the WBO 160-pound title in 1995, defeating David Mendez by way of a 12th round technical knockout.  He made six successful world title defenses during the following two years, winning five and fighting Otis Grant to a draw.  Bradley's world title fight victims were Dario Victor Galindez (TKO1), Randy Smith (TKO2), Lonnie Beasley (DEC12), Somin Brown (DEC12) and John Williams (TKO8). Managed and trained by Stephan Edwards, Williams is a 24-year-old out of Philadelphia who is rated No. 3 by the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) and No. 10 by the United States Boxing Association (USBA). In 2013, Williams defeated former world champion Joachim Alcine by eight-round decision, followed by a World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight title fight against 19-0 Hugo Centeno, Jr. that ended in a "no contest" due to an accidental head-butt. Williams has stopped his last three opponents, Orlando Lora (29-4-2) and Freddy Hernandez (30-6) in three rounds, and Michael Medina (26-4-2) by eighth-round TKO this past May on the Adonis Stevenson-Andzej Fonfara undercard at Belle Centre in Montreal. "Lonnie Bradley was a great fighter whose career was cut short due to a detached retina," Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said.  "He was fun to watch. In 1995, right before he won the world title, he won a 10-round decision over Apolinar Hernandez in Hauppauge (NY) for the New York State middleweight title. We're delighted to have Lonnie and junior middleweight prospect Julian Williams as this month's speakers. The junior middleweight division is one of the hottest in boxing and Julian's one of the top 154-pound prospects. He's another good prospect from a long line of tough Philly fighters."
