Garton ready for title showdown on 13th December

27 year old Johnny “The Pexican” Garton is the latest prospect to put pen to paper and ink a three year deal with Steve Goodwin. Garton has won 12 of 13 bouts with his solitary loss coming in Prizefighter against Sam Eggington.

Garton trained by Alan Smith at the IBox Gym in Kent feels the time is right to step up in class.

“I am fed up with boxing journeymen and now want to navigate through titles. There is no doubt Steve is the man to do that. He is signing some of the best talent in the South of England and is great to deal with.”

Steve said, “I am delighted that Johnny has chosen to put his faith in us. We will be showcasing Johnny on our big end of year show “It’s Go time” at York Hall on 13^th December. We are currently working on a big fight for Johnny and news will be announced shortly.”

“The end of 2014 and 2015 will be massive for Johnny and we will give him every opportunity to reach his aspirations.”

TAYLOR SIGNS 3 YEAR CONTRACT WITH STEVE GOODWIN

26 year old Ryan “Crash Bang” Taylor is the latest comeback kid to sign a three year professional deal with Steve Goodwin.

Taylor has taken a 12 month break from the sport after his unsuccessful challenge for the Southern Area title against Floyd Moore at the Excel in December 2013.

Taylor was a decorated amateur before turning professional in September 2011. At this time Taylor was a full time professional training out of the Syms’ gym. Taylor was undefeated in his first 8 fights before an unsuccessful challenge for the Southern Area title against Liam Shinkwin in March 2013. Taylor then entered Prizefighter in July 2013 defeating Matty Tew in the quarter finals before exiting in the Semi’s against Danny Connor.

After the Moore loss Taylor took a break from the sport and took up a full time job. Now training with Frank Greaves, Taylor knew the time was right to comeback.

“I got bored as a full time professional. I now have my enthusiasm back and believe I will be a far better fighter mentally now I will be boxing alongside a full time job. It was an easy decision to sign with Steve Goodwin. I originally fought on one of his shows on the undercard of Audley Harrison v Ali Adams and he has made great strides since. He delivers everything he promises and I am delighted to be a part of his team.”

Steve said “We are delighted to welcome someone with the potential of Ryan to our team. He will be competing for titles at light-welterweight but first we will build him back up. Now Ryan is happy with his weight and has renewed enthusiasm we believe his will be a force in the light-welterweight division.”

FORMER K1 CHAMPION TURNS PRO

Former K1 British Champion and World Number 4 Adam Hart has decided to hang up his gloves in that sphere and turn professional boxer under the guidance of Steve Goodwin.

Hart now aged 35 is following in the steps of Matt Skelton who also made the same transition at a similar age. Trained by Jamie Williams out of Legends Gym in Romford, Hart wants to move quickly and wants a shot at the British title within 18 months.

“I have a massive fan base and selling tickets is not an issue so I expect to be boxing every six weeks in 2015 and aim to get through. My debut will be on December 13^th on Steve’s “IT’S GO TIME” show at York Hall and then will aim for 8/9 fights through 2015 to end up with a title at the end of it.”

Hart continued, “I promise to bring excitement to the cruiserweight division and I'm going to cause some big ripples in it. Signing with Steve was an easy decision to make, and together I am convinced we are going all the way to the British title and beyond.”

Aiming for first title fight March 2015

Steve Goodwin is delighted to announce the signing of Leon McKenzie on a management and promotional contract. 36 year old McKenzie is unbeaten in 5 since moving to the professional ranks in June 2013 after a successful career as a professional footballer.

“4 of my five bouts have been with the Goodwin’s said Leon. They have always looked after me well and I get on really well with them and Head of Boxing Kevin Campion so it was an easy decision to sign a management contract with Steve.”

“I have had a couple of niggling injuries since my last bout in May this year but will be ready to return in December 2014 and then the aim is for a title fight in March 2015.”

Steve Goodwin was delighted with the new acquisition “I have admired Leon both from what he is achieving in boxing but also his journey through life. We are determined to provide every opportunity for Leon to go as far as he possibly can in his career. ALI ADAMS RETURNS TO THE RING

Iraqi Born Heavyweight Ali Adams returns to the ring in September after his 2 year ban from the sport was lifted.

Adams, who is currently going through the re-application process through the boxing board of control, hopes to be back in the ring on a Josh Goodwin show at York Hall in a 6 rounder.

“I am delighted to be back,” said Adams. “I made a genuine mistake and paid the price. That is now behind me and I want to move on."

Adams was last seen in the ring in May 2012 when he suffered a stoppage defeat at the hands of Audley Harrison before being banned for 2 years for having a banned substance in his body.

Adams decided to re-sign with Steve Goodwin as his manager and said, “I class Steve as a friend. He kept in contact with me throughout my ban and gave me support.”

“I will keep active and build up towards titles. It is time for the talking to stop and for me to do my stuff in the ring and I am so hungry now to put things right."

“WORKING WITH MICHAEL BALINGALL WE ARE GOING TO STAGE SOME BIG EVENTS”

Promoter Steve Goodwin today announced plans to stage some major events on the South Coast over the next 24 months working alongside Michael Ballingall of Bally’s Gym in Portsmouth.

I have had several meetings with Michael over the past few weeks and our aim is to bring massive nights back to Portsmouth even bigger than the Tony Oakey days.

I have recently signed the exciting Floyd Moore managerially and we will be working alongside Michael’s team of fighters. We are looking for other managers and unattached boxers and boxers wanting to turn pro to contact either myself or Michael if they want to be a part of these exciting plans.

Two shows are planned this year on 20^th September at the Pyramid Centre(being promoted by Josh Goodwin of Goodwin Sports) and 5^th December followed by a big show in March at a bigger venue. We hope to stage 5-6 shows in 2015.

Provided Floyd achieves what we hope he will an open air show is on the cards for 2016 which will be massive for the area.

Goodwins sign the Turkish Sensation Tasocak; Due to Debut October 11th at York Hall

Steve Goodwin today unveiled his latest signing the Turkish sensation known as “The Boss” Jemali Tasocak.

Tasocak has had two professional fights in Ghana where he won both comfortably and has signed a 3 year deal with Goodwin.

Steve Goodwin “Jemali is the type of exciting young talent we are now signing. We have connections with both Turkey and Ghana and this will enable us to develop signings from these countries. Richard Commey from Ghana won the Commonwealth title on our show.”

He continued, “We have set up a training camp in Turkey and are are taking some of our boxers out there (at our expense!) on 15^th September. We pay our boxers flights and accommodation so they just need to turn up with their cases. Jemali has seen we are doing this and wants to be a part of this. Jemali will be campaigning at Lightweight and his exciting style will make him a massive crowd Pleaser. He will be trained by the up and coming Rod Julian at RJ’s Gym in Chingford, London.”

Jemali said “This was a no brainer for me. The Goodwin’s stood out for me as the most active promotional group that are going places and I am looking forward to my first fight for them on October 11^th.”

FLOYD WANTS MOORE TITLES UNDER GOODWIN

Former Southern Area Lightweight Champion Floyd “Pac Man” Moore is the latest to put pen to paper and sign a three year deal with Steve Goodwin.

Moore won the Southern Area title in December 2012 when stopping Ryan Taylor in 4 rounds at the Excel Arena. Six months passed before Moore made his first defence where he lost a very close decision to Adam Dingsdale.

“Inactivity cost me “ says Moore “I only had a 4 ½ week training camp for the Adam fight. I need a fight plan and Steve has given me a four fight plan starting at 20 September in Portsmouth. I then will be out three weeks later at York Hall. November/December back at York Hall and then back to Portsmouth in March 2015 headlining a big show. This is what fighters want. This will keep me focused in the gym as I know what my plans are and when I will be boxing.”

Goodwin said “We are delighted to welcome Floyd to the team. The Goodwin team will now be promoting in Portsmouth as well as London and Floyd will box at both venues as we build him towards titles. We will be working intensively alongside Floyd and his trainer Michael Ballingall helping Michael with his Portsmouth boxers as well as Floyd.”

Floyd said “It was an easy decision to make. He is the manager/promoter that is improving fast and has a plan for every boxer.”

DECORATED AMATEUR STAR KENNEDY SIGNS WITH THE GOODWINS

Set to debut October/November 2015

Decorated Amateur star Josh Kennedy from Folkestone is the latest top prospect to join the Goodwins under a three year contract.

Kennedy won many titles as an amateur including: 2007 Golden belt champion, 2008 Junior ABA runner up, 2009 Junior ABA champion, Four nations bronze medalist,  12x Southern counties champion spanning over 9 years , 2x Denmark international box cup gold medalist in 2008 and 2009 , 2x Haringey box cup gold medallist in 2011 and 2013, 2X CYP championship silver medalist, 2x England elite representative and 2014 England elite ABAE quarter finalist.

 Kennedy finished his amateur career with 79 fights 60 wins and being ranked 5th in England and 9th in Great Britain  in the 2014 ABAE official rankings.

 As an amateur Kennedy defeated the likes of Louis Adolphe (new Warren signing), George Jupp and Liverpools current professional prospect Andy Colquoun (now 9-0 as a pro).

 Kennedy's style is more suited to the pro's and at only 23 feels the time is right to turn professional.

 "I have served my apprenticeship and feel the time is now right. I had several offers on the table but after meeting Steve and his team it took me only 24 hours to decide to join them. We are all heading for the top!"

24 year old Osborne set to make his professional debut

24 year old “Blue Eyes” Brenny Osborne from Bethersden in Kent is ready to set the pulses racing when he makes his long awaited debut on the Steve Goodwin promoted “The Return of Smokin Joe” show on 19^th April at York Hall which features three title fights and a great undercard featuring the debuts of Brenny and the highly touted Ohara Davies (who won 19 from 19 as an amateur).

Osborne intended to turn pro 3 years agho but personal issues and a temporary move to the states put this off. After teaming up with trainer Rod Julian at RJ’s Gym in Chingford and Promoter/Manager Steve Goodwin this all changed and Brenny is now ready to go.

Despite a successful amateur winning 16 of 18 bouts and a temporary period undefeated in  the unlicensed scene, Osborne’s style was always going to be suited to the pro’s.

Osborne has an all action southpaw style and will be an exciting addition to the pro ranks. With the Goodwin’s promoting a minimum 14 shows this year Osborne intends to keep busy. “My aim is to get 6 fights in before the end of the year”.

ITS THE DEFINING NIGHT FOR BOWES

29 year old Philip “Quicksilver” Bowes has made a fine start to his career with 6 unbeaten fights but now takes on a massive step up in class when he takes on former British Champion Paul Appleby as a special feature in the “Lionheart and Braveheart” show promoted by Steve Goodwin of Goodwin Promotions at York Hall on December 7^th.

Bowes says of his massive opportunity “I am delighted to have the opportunity to box someone of Paul’s credentials and this fight will show whether I am capable of getting to British title level myself which I believe I am.” Bowes continued “I do not want to build my record to 10-0 against nobodies. I want to be boxing for titles over the next 6 months and am aiming for Southern Area and English titles by that time.”

For Appleby it is a chance to continue his comeback after a win against Lee Connelly earlier this year as he targets a return to British title level.

The Bowes v Appleby fight is part of an 18 fight extravaganza which starts at 4.30 pm on Saturday and is expected to run until midnight.

Appleby is not the only Scottish boxer appearing. Goodwin’s “Golden Boy” John McCallum has his first title shot when he takes on Baltic Light-Middleweight Champion Adam Grabiec for the International Masters Bronze title.

Topping the bill is Lee "The Banjo" Markham who competes for his first 12 round title with a crack at the British Masters super Middleweight Gold title against former Southern Area Champion Sam Couzens.

Former two time Southern Area title challenger Kris Agyei-Dua hopes to make it third time lucky in aiming for a title. Kris competes for the International Masters Light-Middleweight title against Czech Jan Balog.

Goodwin's "Golden Boy" John McCallum from Edinburgh competes for his first title when he competes for the International Masters Bronze Light-Middleweight title.

A special attraction sees London's undefeated "Quicksilver" Philip Bowes (6-0) take on former British Champion Paul Appleby from Scotland in a 6 round Light-Welterweight contest.

Exciting undefeated Heavyweight prospect AJ Carter  (4-0) has a 4 round contest against Luke Martin from the UK.
