Fight Network Signs Broadcast Deal to Air Takedown Wrestling, USA Wrestling Weekly Programs

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, has signed a broadcast deal to add Takedown Wrestling Media’s two traditional wrestling weekly news programs to its schedule – Takedown Wrestling and USA Wrestling Weekly.

The international programming deal with Fight Network is both important and strategic, increasing the number of homes receiving the wrestling news programs to 59 million homes first-run 52 weeks per year.

Fight Network’s market penetration includes Cablevision’s Optimum TV, Grande Communications, Shentel Cable and Armstrong Cable in the U.S., nationwide in Canada, Roku devices across North America, and globally in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Beginning on Nov. 5 and premiering every Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. ET, Takedown Wrestling provides extensive coverage of amateur wrestling events, including the latest news, behind-the-scenes access and exclusive interviews.

Starting on Nov. 8, USA Wrestling Weekly will premiere on Saturdays with host Scott Casber presenting weekly news and analysis centering around USA Wrestling, the sport’s national governing body, including interviews, features and a look back at the past.

“Takedown Wrestling Media is excited to grow our partnership with Fight Network to keep fans up to date on the world of wrestling,” said Scott Casber, founder of Takedown Wrestling Media. “College and international styles alike will benefit from the wide and growing distribution of Fight Network.”

Casber’s views were mirrored by Leonard Asper, CEO of Anthem Media Group Inc., which operates Fight Network: “Wrestling holds a special place in the world of combat sports and Takedown’s coverage will enable our viewers to stay plugged into wrestling at every level. Through this partnership, Fight Network grappling fans can access the finest worldwide wrestling coverage available.”

USA Wrestling’s president James Ravanack added: “The increased coverage of USA Wrestling events and its athletes will serve to continue wrestling’s growth, especially in the United States. We’re confident that wrestling’s growth in the U.S. and around the world will benefit from the increased coverage and expanded distribution from our relationship with Fight Network.”

The agreement between Takedown Wrestling Media and Fight Network will work toward coverage of events (both live and taped) along with airing the traditional news shows they’ve produced over the years.

South Dakota State wrestles in its final Western Wrestling Conference dual this season versus North Dakota State. Start time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, in Frost Arena.

Last week, the Jackrabbits hosted Utah Valley and Northern Colorado. The Wolverines edged SDSU 22-18 on Wednesday night, but the Jacks rebounded for a 28-13 win versus the Bears.

THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION

No. 25 North Dakota State Bison - SDSU faces NDSU for the 57th time in school history, the most of any opponent. The first meeting between the two teams was in the 1958-59 season, a 22-9 win for the Jackrabbits. The Bison lead the all-time series 36-19-1, including a two-dual winning streak. SDSU last defeated NDSU in its final dual of the 2009-10 season (23-22).

Last season, SDSU scored one pin and one decision (Walraven, 141) at NDSU, but an early-dual forfeit was costly and the Bison ran away with the dual.

Four NDSU wrestlers are ranked in the initial coaches' panel rankings. Trent Sprenkle is the top-ranked Bison wrestler, checking in at No. 5 at 125 pounds. Steven Monk (No. 6 at 165), Mac Stoll (No. 20 at 184) and Evan Knutson (No. 31 at 285) also cracked the rankings. All four wrestlers are probable starters for NDSU on Friday.
North Dakota State is 9-8 overall, but undefeated (4-0) in the WWC this season. The conference leader won at Air Force (23-15), at No. 14 Wyoming (22-15), vs. Utah Valley (18-15) and vs. Northern Colorado (36-8). NDSU is 3-5 in duals versus ranked opponents this season, including a 22-12 loss versus No. 1 Minnesota (Golden Gophers won the final four matches).

Other than the four conference opponents, the two teams have two non-conference common opponents this season. Both SDSU and NDSU were bested by No. 7 Missouri and No. 20 Northern Iowa.

COVERAGE - Takedown Wrestling Media will broadcast the dual on TheMat.com and TheMat TV with Takedown's Steve Foster, Chad Kriz, Scott Casber and Jeff Murphy beginning with a 6:30 p.m. preview. Jeff Murphy, Vice President of Kemin Industries, is attending the dual and will be a part of the broadcast team. Kemin is a life science company that makes human and animal innovations.

In addition, Takedown's Saturday Morning Radio Show will be broadcast live at 9-11 a.m. from Frost Arena and will feature South Dakota State Athletic Director Justin Sell, Head

Coach Chris Bono, along with other administrators and student-athletes.
