PHILADELPHIA, PA (January 15, 2014) - Current IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins turns 49-years-old today.
As the oldest champion in any major sport and one year shy of 50, Hopkins makes his own birthday wish, and provides some sage advice for his sport, young fighters coming up and the 40 and over crowd, a particular group of fans he enjoys fighting on for as his long and illustrious career continues. Here are those wishes on this very special birthday:

"My birthday wish is to be the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world. I want big fights in 2014.
"I want to fight twice this year. I know I can do it and be victorious."
Wish for the sport of boxing in the coming year:
"I want the 'cold war' to end in boxing. Everybody in boxing should do what's right for the sport and its fans."
Advice for young fighters:

FLOYD MAYWEATHER RING STATISTICS PUT PUGILICIST ATOP BOXING HISTORY
Las Vegas, Nev. (February 24, 2012)...To coincide with boxing superstar Floyd "Money" Mayweather's birthday today and upcoming media tour to officially announce his May 5 fight against WBA Super Welterweight Championship Miguel "Junito" Cotto, the seven-time world champion was featured in ESPN The Magazine's "Analytics Issue" (March 5) for some of his extraordinary boxing statistics.
Citing CompuBox, boxing's computerized scoring system, writer Igor Guryashkin breaks down Mayweather's ring genius. He tops all current fighters with a connect percentage of 46%. The system, which calculates every punch a boxer throws and lands, found that only boxing greats Joe Louis and Lennox Lewis hold an advantage over him at just a 2% edge. But no one comes close to the undefeated fighter in regard to opponent connect percentages.
Guryashkin states, "...perhaps even more impressive is Mayweather's opponents connect percentage: 16%, the lowest ever recorded in CompuBox's 4,000-fight database. The astronomical 30% difference between the two stats stands atop history's pugilistic pantheon."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLOYD!
