International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame Announces its 2015 Inductees

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Dec. 2, 2014) -- The International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame has announced eight women who have been voted into the 2015 class. The group includes six boxers from the modern era of female boxing (1990-2010), one pioneer female fighter of the 1950s and a ring official who trail-blazed past the gender barriers in the field of refereeing.  The IWBHF induction will be held on July 11, 2015, 1:30-4:30 PM in the Panorama Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL., in conjunction with the 2015 National Women's Golden Gloves Tournament, the finals of which will be held that evening.

The eight honorees include: Laura Serrano of Mexico, whose 18 year, 25 bout career included wins over Chevelle Hallbeck and Kelsey Jeffries along with her debut bout, in 1994, against Christy Martin, adjudged a draw but a bout many ringsiders considered a win for Serrano; Dierdre Gogarty of Ireland who compiled a 16-5-2 record over a seven year career and was a participant in what is often considered the first "major" female bout, a six round loss to Christy Martin in Las Vegas in 1996; Jeannine Garside, a hard punching Canadian, who compiled a 10-3-1 record, capping her six year career with a 2010 win over Ina Menzer for the WBC featherweight title.  The five Americans being honored are: Laila Ali, who carried a revered name into the sport of female boxing and lived up to that name with a record of 24 wins without a loss, including 21 KOs; Terri Moss who had 18 bouts during a busy five year career and, following her retirement, has stayed involved in the sport outside the ring as a highly regarded trainer, the force behind one of the most successful "white collar" boxing programs in the country in Atlanta and as a documentary film maker and author effectively depicting and advocating for the sport of Women's boxing; Ann Wolfe a hard punching middleweight who has surely set the sport's record for You Tube views of her spectacular one punch KO of Vonda Ward. In an eight year career, Wolfe, ranked close behind Lalia Ali in the middleweight ranks, put up a record of 24 wins, one loss, generating 16 KOs. Following her retirement, Wolfe has had a successful managing career most notably guiding middleweight James Kirkland; Sparkle Lee (non-boxer category) progressed from refereeing in the amateur ranks to become the first female referee appointed to the NY State Athletic Commission where she has been arbiter in several world championship bouts; Phyliss Kugler (posthumous pioneer boxer category) compiled a reported 55-1 record during the 1950s, her lone loss coming against Barbara Buttrick in a return bout following a four round draw with Buttrick, last July's IWBHF pioneer boxer inductee.  The 2015 inductees will bring to fifteen the number of honorees inducted into the IWBHF in the initial two years and this July's ceremony is expected to generate the same type of fan and media excitement and exposure that the initial event engendered. Cisneros is coming off two straight losses. However, both were world title bouts against impressive competition:  an 8-round TKO to Chevelle Hallback for the vacant World Boxing Federation female welterweight title on August 22, 2014 and a unanimous decision for Rola El Halabi for three light welterweight belts - vacant WIBA, World Boxing Federation (WBF) and vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) on May 10, 2014.

Upper Marlboro, MD native Mike Balogun (1-0, 1 KOs), a former NFL linebacker who spent time on the Washington Redskins practice squad, as well as stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts between 2010 and 2012, will compete in a 4-round heavyweight contest (opponent TBD). A University of Oklahoma Sooner defensive standout who started boxing six months ago, Balogun scored an impressive 2^nd-round TKO over Maurice Womack in his professional debut on October 23, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

Thomas Brown (15-4-2, 9 KOs) of Rock Hill, SC will replace Ronald Hearns in a six-round bout against former middleweight Jonathan Reid (35-15, 9 KOs) who was a teammate of Lange’s on the first season of The Contender  reality TV show.

Todd “White Lightning” Wilson (16-0, 5 KOs) suffered an ankle injury in training camp this week and will not be able to compete. Additionally, former world champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley is no longer on the card because an opponent could not be secured.

Marston: World Title Shot Offer Makes Saturday’s Fight A Must Win Situation

Just a few days before she steps in the ring to challenge Marianna Gulyas for the MBC International Super Bantamweight title, TRAD TKO’s Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston receives an invitation to challenge Australia’s reigning Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) Super Bantamweight World Champion Shannon O’Connell for her coveted crown.

Marianne’s promoter, Dave Murphy, made it clear to WIBA president Ryan Wissow that should Marianne take up the challenge, he wants the fight to take place in the UK, to which Mr Wissow responded.

Rock With Punch – Trapt ‘Bring It’ For Golden Girl’s Oct 25thTitle Fight

Multi Platinum selling Californian Rock band TRAPT have collaborated with British Professional boxer Marianne 'Golden Girl' Marston, to create a joint promotional video for both their November UK tour and Marianne’s upcoming Championship fight, that takes place in London on October 25^th.

The video features Trapt powering their way through the sensational ‘Bring It’, from their 2013 Reborn album, interlaced with action from Marianne’s previous title fight.

The unusual collaboration came about when Marianne contacted Trapt’s Chris Taylor Brown with a view to using ‘Bring It’, both for her upcoming fight promo video as well as her ring walk music on the night, Chris was more than happy to oblige, however he also hinted at something far removed from the standard boxing promo.

Sure enough Marianne loved the concept and on learning that Trapt were due to tour the UK, just a few weeks after her fight, suggested that the video could be used to promote the tour also, which peaked Chris’ interest.
