World Series of Fighting's Derrick Mehmen honored with 2013 Bazzie Award

"Caveman" given "KO Punch of the Year" award for stunning World Series of Fighting 5 knockout of Rolles Gracie

LAS VEGAS, (Dec. 30, 2013) - World Series of Fighting heavyweight Derrick Mehmen provided one of the most memorable knockouts of the year with his stunning finish of Rolles Gracie, and the "Caveman" was awarded a 2013 Bazzie Award for his effort.

Mehmen's one-punch knockout of Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert Rolles Gracie, who was 8-1 entering the fight, was named the "KO Punch of the Year" at this past weekend's Bazzie Awards, presented by Kenny Rice and MMA legend Bas Rutten on AXS TV's weekly MMA news series "Inside MMA."

"Thank you 'Inside MMA' for 'KO Punch of the Year,'" Mehmen said on the show. "I'd also like to thank my management team, KO Dynasty, American Top Team and Hard Drive Mixed Martial Arts and all my training partners and family and especially all the fans for tuning in and watching my 'KO Punch of the Year. Look for me in 2014."

The 28-year-old Mehmen made his World Series of Fighting debut in September at World Series of Fighting 5, where he leveled Gracie with a massive right hand. The power of the blow spun Gracie around before he fell face-first into the canvas in a shocking scene.

Mehmen (16-5) returns to action on Jan. 18, where he meets Scott "The Bear" Barrett (13-3) at "World Series of Fighting 8: Gaethje vs. Gonzalez," which takes place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The evening's main card airs on NBCSN following preliminary bouts that stream on World Series of Fighting's official website, WSOF.com.

Additionally, World Series of Fighting partner Pancrase, a Tokyo-based promotion with 20 years of experience, was also honored at the 2013 Bazzie Awards.

Takuya Eizumi's slick rolling armbar finish of Teppei Masuda was named the 2013 Bazzie Awards' "Submission of the Year." The matchup took place at July's "Pancrase 250: 2013 Neo-Blood Tournament Finals" event.

World Series of Fighting Japan is set to host its debut event in early 2014.

Maromo wins Rising Star Award at The Bazzie’s

‘Afrikan Assassin’ claims major honor from AXS TV’s ‘Inside MMA’
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
For the second time in the history of the Maximum Fighting Championship, one of the organization’s fighters has been bestowed with the honor of winning a prestigious Bazzie Award from AXS TV’s “Inside MMA.”
“The Afrikan Assassin” Mukai Maromo claimed the Rising Star Award during the special year-end broadcast of ‘The Bazzies’ which aired on Christmas Eve on AXS TV. Maromo won both of his fights in 2012, taking a controversial split-decision verdict from Adam Lynn at MFC 33, and then electrifying the crowd at MFC 34 in the rematch against Lynn when he scored a scintillating second-round knockout which also earned him the MFC’s 2012 Knockout of the Year.
The Bazzies are named after mixed martial arts icon and “Inside MMA” analyst Bas Rutten.
“Winning the Bazzie is an incredible honor and a big part of achieving my dream of becoming an icon in this sport,” said Maromo, who will fight for the vacant MFC lightweight title against Graham Spencer on Friday, February 15 live on AXS TV Fights from the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.
Prior to Maromo, MFC competitors Jason Kuchera and Aron Lofton received the Bazzie for 2008’s Bloodiest Fight of the Year.
The honor was especially gratifying for Maromo (Twitter: @AfrikanAssassin), who emerged on the scene in 2011 after arriving in the United States on a track and field scholarship from his native Zimbabwe. Now making his home in Edmonton, Alberta, the 29-year-old has become one of the MFC’s most engaging and crowd-pleasing fighters with his colorful personality and striking prowess.
“I couldn’t have done without the MFC family, AXS TV Fights, and all my sponsors who have aided me thus far in my journey,” reflected Maromo.
“It’s surreal every time I see myself in some sort of media. I can’t help but look to the beginning of my journey and realizing how far I’ve come and how far I have left to go.”
Maromo enters the title fight riding a five-fight winning streak. During his tenure under the Maximum Fighting Championship banner, Maromo has won two Knockout of the Night awards, and shared the MFC’s 2011 Fight of the Year with Sabah Fadai.
“I’m particularly proud of Mukai winning the Rising Star Award. He definitely fits the description perfectly,” noted Mark Pavelich, Owner/President of the Maximum Fighting Championship.
“He had an outstanding 2012 and I believe there’s bigger and better things on the horizon for him in 2013 starting with his title fight against Graham Spencer at MFC 36. Mukai has all the makings to go well beyond a Rising Star.”
Tickets for MFC 36: Reality Check are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling the MFC Ticket Hotline at (780) 504-2024.

Top MMA Fighters Battle alongside Tyler Ransom against Nephrotic Syndrome

(Tampa, FL)- Eleven year old Tyler Ransom has been battling a disease that only affects 20 children out of 1,000,000; a disease that causes his kidneys to malfunction and produce severe swelling in his face and legs.
When Tyler was only two, he was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome and ever since has been on a strict dairy and gluten free diet, as well as having to take over eight medications and supplements a day. However, Tyler's condition hasn't disabled him, but has created a desire to help other kids with the same disease and has motivated him to raise awareness of this rare disorder.
Tyler's strength and courage to fight Nephrotic Syndrome has caught the attention of many MMA fighters and has led to interviews with Inside MMA hosts, Bas Rutten and Kenny Rice and Strikeforce fighter Ronda Rousey, a Judo Olympic Medalist and Strikeforce Women's bantamweight champion. Together with Tyler Ransom, these MMA fighters are squaring off against Nephrotic Syndrome and won't quit until there is a cure.
