McLEMAN JOINS CAGE WARRIORS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Top English middleweight Harry McLeman (8-2) commits his future to Cage Warriors Fighting Championship.

(London, United Kingdom | Tuesday, November 18, 2014) - Harry McLeman (8-2) is the newest addition to the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship roster.

McLeman has penned a deal which will see him compete exclusively for CWFC for five bouts over a minimum period of 18 months. A native of Plymouth in the south of England, McLeman will make his debut in the promotion’s 185lbs division in 2015.

“Cage Warriors is by far the best show in Europe,” said McLeman, who turned 28 last week. “I’m looking forward to competing with some of the best fighters in the game and taking that belt.”

Currently riding a three-fight win streak, McLeman most recently clinched the British middleweight title for BAMMA, a leading domestic promotion in the UK.

McLeman is ranked as one of the UK’s top ten middleweights outside the UFC, and has taken six of his eight professional wins inside the distance - four by submission, two via (T)KO.

Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan said: “We’re very pleased to be welcoming Harry to Cage Warriors and I’m looking forward to seeing what impact he can make next year on what’s shaping up to be a very exciting middleweight division.”

Fight Network Presents Cage Warriors 73 LIVE This Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. ET

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

TORONTO (Oct. 30, 2014) -- Fight Network, the world's premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, presents the return of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship action with a bang this Saturday, Nov. 1, with two Cage Warriors 73 main cards headlined by world championship fights set to begin at 2 p.m. ET, emanating from Newcastle, England's Metro Radio Arena.

Fight Network's live broadcast will air on Cablevision's Optimum TV, Grande Communications, Shentel Cable and Armstrong Cable in the U.S., nationwide in Canada, Roku devices across North America, and globally in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Headlining the first main card set for 2 p.m. ET, Alex Enlund battles Nad Narimani for the vacant Cage Warriors featherweight title. In other featured bouts, Moktar Benkaci meets Ronnie Mann,Leeroy Barnes takes on Kyle Redfearn, Liam James throws down with Dean Trueman, Ellis Hampson squares off with Lewis Monarch, plus Mark Connor and Ian Malone kick off the televised festivities.

The action heats up with the second main card set for 5 p.m. ET, as Stevie Ray defends the Cage Warriors lightweight strap against Curt Warburton. The co-feature pits Juan Manuel Suarezagainst Jim Wallhead, while other contests include Shaj Haque vs. Damien Rooney, Matt Inmanvs. Lewis Long, Brett Caswell vs. Marcin Lasota and Stephen Martin vs. Paddy Pimblett.

Enlund (10-2-0-1nc), who'll have the benefit of vocal home support as a native of the north-east of England, has accumulated a 4-1 record since joining CWFC.

After a move to bantamweight in March 2013 was aborted following a difficult weight-cut and subsequent loss to Martin McDonough, Enlund has looked extremely impressive, embarking on a three-fight win-streak.

The 27-year-old jiu-jitsu specialist rebounded with wins over Sebastian Romanowski and Danny Lawson, before disposing of Artem Lobov at CWFC 65 in Dublin earlier this year.

Nine of his ten wins have come by way of submission, and Enlund has been taken out of the first round just once in his professional career.

"Fighting for the CWFC world title is an absolutely massive opportunity for me," Enlund said."Winning this belt, especially in front of a home crowd at the Metro Radio Arena, would be a huge achievement. Nad Narimani is a good opponent and someone I've seen a lot of, so I'm looking forward to testing my skills against a well-rounded competitor and bringing the belt home."

Narimani (7-1) has risen rapidly through the rankings having made his professional debut just over three years ago, starting with a 5-0 run that included notable victories against Marcin Wrzosek and Karsten Lenjoint.

The 27-year-old Englishman then kicked off his CWFC career against future title challenger Graham Turner in July 2013, but was edged out via split decision, tasting defeat for the only time in his career so far.

But Narimani, who has taken five of his seven wins by stoppage, returned to winning ways courtesy of first-round submissions of previously-undefeated pair Theo Michailidis and Benjamin Brander.

Narimani, who hails from Bristol, said: "This is a huge event and opportunity for me, and I'm proud to be getting this chance to show what I can really do against a very highly-ranked opponent. I've been working extremely hard so you can expect me to showcase some new skills and come away with another big win in Newcastle on November 1."

Enlund and Narimani will be vying for a title that was most recently held by Jim Alers, who vacated the belt earlier this year after two successful defenses prior to his move to the UFC.

Ray (15-5) is currently in his second stint as CWFC lightweight world champion, having first clinched the belt courtesy of wins over Jason Ball and Sean Carter in CWFC's four-man, one-night lightweight title tournament at CWFC 60 in October 2013.

The 24-year-old relinquished the strap following a fourth-round submission defeat to Ivan Buchinger last New Year's Eve at CWFC 63 in Dublin, but the title returned to Scotland in June after Ray exacted revenge against Warburton.

"I'm looking forward to defending my belt, particularly in Curt's hometown," said Ray. "It's not too far from home for me either, so you can expect an invasion of Scottish fans and a crazy atmosphere."

Warburton (13-5) signed to compete exclusively for Cage Warriors Fighting Championship last year, and made a successful debut for the promotion at CWFC 62 with of a first-round submission of Wesley Murch.

A three-fight veteran of the UFC, 33-year-old Warburton has put together a 6-2 record since his departure from the UFC following a defeat to Joe Lauzon in June 2011.

Warburton said: "The judges won't save Stevie Ray this time. I'm going to put things right in Newcastle on November 1."

CWFC 74: MAGUIRE vs. WHEELER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, September 3, 2014

John Maguire, the five-time UFC veteran, will be aiming to return to winning ways when he faces fellow Englishman Brad Wheeler in a lightweight contest at Cage Warriors 74 at the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

(London, United Kingdom | Wednesday, September 3, 2014) - A lightweight bout between John Maguire and Brad Wheeler has been set for Cage Warriors 74.

The event, which takes place at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park on Saturday, November 15, 2014, will also feature a historic CWFC women’s bantamweight world title fight between Pannie Kianzad and Agnieszka Niedzwiedz.

Maguire (19-8), who hails from England, will be competing on home soil for the first time in over two years, with his last outing in the UK coming in September 2012 when he took on John Hathaway under the umbrella of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

A five-fight veteran of the UFC, where he accumulated a 2-3 record, Maguire signed for Cage Warriors Fighting Championship last October and debuted with a unanimous-decision victory over Philip Mulpeter at CWFC 63.

The 31-year-old, who has been stopped just twice in his 27 professional contests, will be keen to return to winning ways on November 15, following consecutive defeats to Saul Rogers and Damir Hadzovic.

Maguire said: “I’m very determined to show people that John Maguire has still got it. I’m not even thinking about title contention or anything like that at the moment.

“Brad Wheeler has looked great in his last few fights and he’s on a bit of a roll, but the bottom line is that he’s not going to beat me.”

Currently in his best run of form to date, Wheeler (13-9) will be aiming for his fifth successive win when he takes on fellow Englishman Maguire in London on November 15.

The 24-year-old has taken twelve of his thirteen career victories by stoppage, eleven of which have come via submission, including his most recent triumphs against Jason Cooledge and David Howell earlier in 2014.

An eleven-fight Cage Warriors veteran, Wheeler also holds notable wins over the UFC’s Ian Entwistle and CWFC pair Wesley Murch and Merv Mulholland.

“This is the biggest fight of my career so far and I’m looking forward to it a lot,” said Wheeler, who has been stopped just once in his last fifteen bouts.

“I believe I’m up there among the very best lightweights in the UK and this is my opportunity to prove that.”

More exciting CWFC 74 bouts are still to be announced, and tickets will go on sale soon.

STATEMENT FROM CAGE WARRIORS FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, July 31, 2014

(London, United Kingdom | Thursday, July 31, 2014) Cage Warriors Fighting Championship (CWFC) can this evening confirm that it has reluctantly taken the decision to move next month's CWFC 71 event to Amman, Jordan.

Originally scheduled to take place in Stockholm on Saturday, August 23, CWFC 71 was due to be another historic Cage Warriors event, with Sweden set to become the thirteenth country to play host to Europe's leading mixed martial arts promotion.

However, issues outside of CWFC's control have forced officials to move the event to Jordan, with CWFC 71 now booked to go ahead at Amman's King Hussein Boxing Arena on Friday, August 22.

CWFC 71 will be Cage Warriors Fighting Championship's tenth event of 2014. Bouts and further details will be announced in due course.

The decision to move CWFC 71 from Sweden to Jordan has come as a result of the nonsensical refusal of the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation (SMMAF) to approve several bouts to be contested under full unified rules.

Of the initial five bouts that were submitted for approval, only one - a featherweight bout between Martin Svensson (13-5) and Dave Hill (12-3) - received permission to be contested under full unified rules.

The remaining four did not receive the necessary approval, with the SMMAF claiming in a statement: "The committee has found that several matches applied for by Cage Warriors have not made the required level."

In addition to referring to "unequal matching", the SMMAF stated its belief that the fighters involved do not possess enough experience to compete under full unified rules.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has been at the core of the global MMA community since its inception in 2002 but, in particular, the significant growth of the promotion since 2010 has been built on a foundation laid by the ability of its fighters and the quality of its matching, courtesy of our exceptional matchmaker Ian Dean.

As a promotion, CWFC is shocked and bemused by the SMMAF's apparent reasoning for preventing these bouts from taking place, given that Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has developed into one of the world's leading promotions based largely on these very qualities.

This has led CWFC officials to question the motives of the SMMAF in this instance, as up until this issue arose, both parties had co-operated effortlessly to lay the platform for CWFC to stage an event in Sweden.

From the outset, CWFC officials assured the SMMAF that their protocol would be followed throughout each step in the process, and even agreed to allow the CWFC 71 undercard bouts to be contested under the SMMAF's 'Swedish rules' i.e. with elbows and up-kicks prohibited.

"Moving this event out of Sweden is a decision we really wanted to avoid, but because of the actions of the SMMAF, we have unfortunately been left with no choice in the matter," said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan.

"To ask our elite fighters, who are among the best in Europe and the world as a whole, to compete under a diluted set of rules to what they have been doing throughout their professional careers is an abhorrent insult to these outstanding athletes and their abilities.

"Jack Hermansson is our middleweight champion and Jack Mason is probably the most experienced fighter in the UK, but their respective bouts were not approved. It's absolutely absurd.

"Suggesting that such fighters are not capable of competing under full unified rules is ludicrous beyond belief and I would never even consider asking them to compete under anything other than full unified rules.

"The SMMAF have left us in an impossible, and very sad, situation here, and unfortunately our only option is to take our athletes elsewhere for this event."

The four bouts which did not receive SMMAF approval for full unified rules are: Jack Hermansson (8-2) versus Cheick Kone (11-3) - CWFC agreed to this title bout being contested over three five-minute rounds; Pannie Kianzad (5-0) versus Alexandra Buch (8-3); Jack Mason (28-13) versus Jonatan Westin (6-2); Liam James (8-6) versus Frantz Slioa (4-0). Applications for further bouts were in the process of being submitted until today's decision to move the event from Sweden.

Furthermore, the SMMAF's pro-committee has claimed publicly that there was no conflict of interest involved in their decisions, despite one committee member being the current manager and coach of Martin Svensson, one of the fighters involved in the only CWFC 71 bout that was approved for full unified rules.

Nevertheless, while the SMMAF has ultimately prevented Cage Warriors from staging this event in Sweden, the promotion is extremely appreciative of the widespread support it has received from the Swedish MMA community, particularly from former SMMAF and IMMAF president August Wallen.

"I'm very sad about this situation," August Wallen said. "Many have worked hard to get Cage Warriors to Sweden and, as someone who helped to build MMA here, I'm concerned as I believe this could be a major setback for the development of MMA in the whole region.

"As a coach, I have looked forward to taking part in this great Cage Warriors event and I feel bad for all the fighters who have worked hard but will now be denied the chance to fight here in Sweden in front of a global audience."

Those sentiments have been echoed by Tue Trnka, CWFC's Head of Operations in Scandinavia, who has worked tirelessly to put the framework in place for the first ever Cage Warriors event in Sweden.

He said: “I'm shocked and appalled by the ridiculous actions of the SMMAF’s pro-committee. This is hurting so many local fighters, as well as the entire Nordic MMA scene, which has now taken a massive hit.

“I strongly disagree with the SMMAF’s negative decisions and I find their lack of dialogue both disrespectful and arrogant, considering the vast impact their decisions will have on so many people.

“We've done everything that was asked of us, and yet it seemingly comes down to just two people on the pro-committee, who for some reason have decided to vote against these fights.

“If you look at some of the UFC’s undercard fights in Sweden, all of which have been approved for full unified rules by the SMMAF, and compare them to the fights we applied for, I find it hard not to wonder if there is some bias involved.

“This was a massive opportunity for Swedish and Nordic MMA, but bureaucracy has won out here and Swedish MMA has suffered an enormous blow.”

In spite of these developments, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will not abandon its plans to expand in Scandinavia, with the promotion more determined than ever to stage an inaugural event in Sweden.

“Our first event in Denmark was a huge success last March and I have no doubt that the same would have been the case in Sweden on August 23,” said Graham Boylan.

“That will now have to wait slightly longer than we had initially hoped for, but I can assure our Swedish fans that it’ll be worth the wait when CWFC finally gets there.

“The actions of the SMMAF have set a worrying precedent for MMA in Sweden, but this has not deterred us at all. Between fighters and fans, Sweden has played a major role in the growth of Cage Warriors and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so.”

CWFC ROSTER CONTINUES TO GROW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, July 24, 2014

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship adds five more fighters to its stable of talent, with Tim Newman, Jonatan Westin, Juan Manuel Suarez, Gregor Weibel and Benjamin Brander each signing five-fight deals to compete exclusively for Europe's leading promotion.

(London, United Kingdom | Thursday, July 24, 2014) Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has today signed five more fighters to its ever-expanding roster of exclusive talent.

The new additions - Tim Newman (pictured), Jonatan Westin, Juan Manuel Suarez, Gregor Weibel and Benjamin Brander - have each signed five-fight deals to compete for Europe’s leading promotion.

Cage Warriors, which returns to action with its ninth event of the year in Dublin on August 16, can now boast a stable of over 150 athletes committed to fighting exclusively under the CWFC banner.

Newman (10-4) is a top-ten-ranked UK lightweight who has a 2-0 CWFC record, with the most recent of those wins coming via first-round submission against Greg Loughran at CWFC 49.

The 31-year-old Welshman said: “I’m extremely happy to have signed with Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and I’m looking forward to making a challenge for that lightweight world title.”

Westin (6-2), a highly-regarded 24-year-old Swedish welterweight, holds notable wins over top Finnish pair Glenn Sparv and Kai Puolakka, as well as CWFC veteran Dan Hope.

“Cage Warriors has a very strong welterweight division but I’m looking forward to being a part of it, and I’m excited to make my debut,” said Westin, who has taken all but one of his wins inside the distance.

Suarez (15-6) is an eight-fight veteran of the M-1 promotion who impressed on his CWFC debut earlier this year at CWFC 64, despite dropping a decision loss to Danny Roberts.

The 35-year-old Spaniard, who has taken 12 of his 15 victories by stoppage, said:“Signing with Cage Warriors is a huge opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to competing against the best in Europe.”

Weibel (8-2), a former welterweight who’s set to move to the 155lbs division, will be keen to pick up his first CWFC win when he returns to action for the first time since his CWFC 64 decision defeat to Matt Inman.

“I’m proud to have signed with Cage Warriors and I’m really excited about the prospect of making a good impression for Europe’s top promotion,” said the 28-year-old Swiss fighter.

Brander (7-1), a fellow countryman of Weibel’s, recently returned to winning ways after tasting defeat for the first time in his career against Nad Narimani in London this past February.

A 26-year-old featherweight who has taken all of his wins inside the first two rounds, Brander said: “I appreciate the chance Cage Warriors has given me and I promise to make my mark on the 145lbs division.”
