SHUMENOV PUNISHES ORNELAS RESULTS FROM LAS VEGAS
![]() (All pictures by Emily Harney - KZ Event Productions)
LAS VEGAS (June 2, 2012) - World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Association (IBA) Light Heavyweight World Champion Beibut Shumenov (13-1, 8 KO's) battered a game Enrique Ornelas (33-87, 21 KO's) from the opening bell en route to dominant victory by unanimous decision at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Shumenov revealed after the fight that he had injured his right forearm 10 days ago during a sparring session. It didn't prevent him, however, from pitching a complete shutout, winning each round on all three judges' scorecards in the 12-round main event. Shumenov was the aggressor, throwing hard rights to the head and body, especially effective were his well timed uppercuts.
Ornelas was unable to counter Shumenov, who threw powerful combinations and then avoided Ornelas' late counters. Shumenov, a 2008 Kazakhstan Olympian, lives in Las Vegas and his fourth successful title defense was at the same venue in which he first captured the WBA crown.
"I trained very hard because I knew he (Ornelas) is very tough," Shuenov said after the fight. "His defense was very good. I wasn't able to show my best because of the arm injury I suffered. I'm happy with the win."
Shumenov's advisor, Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin, said that he will sit down next week with Shumenov to discuss his next fight. "We have three great offers from Kessler, Hopkins and Cleverly," Chargin noted.

All three ringside judges scored in Hudaynazarov's favor with tallies of 79-73. Hudaynazarov is the reigning WBA FEDALATIN welterweight champion and world rated No. 15 by the WBA. A power puncher with five first round knockouts to his name, Winter Haven, Florida's Joseph Elegele (12-1, 10 KO's) delivers excitement every time he steps into the ring and Saturday night's fight gives him a chance to shine on the world stage. A professional since 2009, the 27-year-old southpaw is coming off of a controversial technical decision loss to fellow prospect Aaron Martinez in July of last year, and he can't wait to get back in the ring and get back in the win column.
A Philadelphia fighter to the core, 29-year-old Lanard Lane (13-1, 8 KO's) may make his home in Houston these days, but when the going gets tough, he is ready to throw down and make his fellow Philly warriors proud. The owner of wins over tough competitors like Dairo Esalas and John Brown, Lane bounced back from the lone loss of his professional career against Mike Dallas in 2010 by stopping Milton Ramos in eight rounds in March. Now he has his sights on a similar result against fellow prospect Elegele this weekend.
Hudaynazarov, fighting out of Las Vegas, is the reigning WBA FEDALATIN 147-pound champion and world rated No. 15 by the WBA. Known as a devastating body puncher, the former Uzbekistan amateur boxing standout and KZ Event Productions promoted rising star who turns 28 the night of the official weigh-in (Friday), steps-up in class to fight current WBO Latino welterweight champion Euri "Millon" Gonzalez (20-1-1, 14 KO's), whose only loss was to WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez, in an intriguing eight-round fight.
Seeing action in a televised undercard fight is rising middleweight prospect Daquan Arnett (3-0, 2 KO's) of Orlando, Florida who faces Yosmani Abreu (2-2-1) of Las Vegas in a four round bout.
Also featured will be featherweight Johnny Reyes (1-0, 1 KO), from Lancaster, Calif., who will square off against Uriel Torres, of Los Angeles, Calif. making his professional debut, in a four round fight and Russian middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (6-0-1, 3 KO's), who now resides in Winter Haven, Florida, who will battle an opponent to be determined in a six-round tilt.
