Goodwin Boxers now have their own gym to use in Turkey

Following a fantastic inaugural training camp in Turkey, Goodwin Boxing are proud to announce that they have acquired a training gym in Turkey for their boxers.

 “This is something we have worked on for a long time but we wanted to do a trial run before making the announcement. Last week former Southern Area Champion Menay Edwards, Kevin Greenwood, Martin Hillman, Jose Lopes, Jordan Joseph and Diego Burton spent six days under the watchful eye of coach and Head of Boxing Operations Kevin Campion running in the mountains at altitude and working in both fitness and boxing gyms.

At the end of the stay Steve Goodwin made a financial offer and Goodwin’s Gym in Turkey was born.

“We will be running our own in house training camps for our boxers” said Goodwin “Our boxers and their trainers are able to use the facilities whenever they want throughout the year. Our next in house training camp will be early 2015 and some more boxers will be coming out to train again and spar with some of the best boxers in Turkey.”

“This is just a part of what we want to be able to do for our boxers and we are working on several other projects which will mean that our boxers will have the same opportunities as those preparing for major world title fights.”

Head of Boxing Operations Kevin Campion finished by saying “The boys last week were a pleasure to train and I can see us spending more and more time with our boxers in Turkey to give them ideal preparation for upcoming fights”.

Goodwins sign the Turkish Sensation Tasocak; Due to Debut October 11th at York Hall

Steve Goodwin today unveiled his latest signing the Turkish sensation known as “The Boss” Jemali Tasocak.

Tasocak has had two professional fights in Ghana where he won both comfortably and has signed a 3 year deal with Goodwin.

Steve Goodwin “Jemali is the type of exciting young talent we are now signing. We have connections with both Turkey and Ghana and this will enable us to develop signings from these countries. Richard Commey from Ghana won the Commonwealth title on our show.”

He continued, “We have set up a training camp in Turkey and are are taking some of our boxers out there (at our expense!) on 15^th September. We pay our boxers flights and accommodation so they just need to turn up with their cases. Jemali has seen we are doing this and wants to be a part of this. Jemali will be campaigning at Lightweight and his exciting style will make him a massive crowd Pleaser. He will be trained by the up and coming Rod Julian at RJ’s Gym in Chingford, London.”

Jemali said “This was a no brainer for me. The Goodwin’s stood out for me as the most active promotional group that are going places and I am looking forward to my first fight for them on October 11^th.”

Turkish Amateur Star Onder Ozgul Pro Debuts In London On March 1st

Turkish former Amateur and IABA World Series Of Boxing star Onder Ozgul is set to make his professional debut next month, when he features on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events, double WBU European title headed, WARZONE event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 1^st March 2014.

With over a hundred amateur bouts under his belt, Onder has built up quite a reputation in his homeland, earning the nickname ‘Little Mike’, from the fans due to his style being so similar to that of legendary ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, something he would like to emulate here in the UK, now that he has made the move to London.

Onder, who is trained by former Commonwealth Lightweight Champion Mo Hussein at the TRAD TKO Gym in Canning Town, will be campaigning in the Light Heavyweight division on March 1^st, a division he believes, domestically, he could dominate over the coming years.

Speaking recently, which was translated by the aforementioned Mo Hussein, Onder succinctly covered his upcoming debut, as well as hinted at future aspirations.

“I’m looking forward to fighting on March 1^st, whether it really is a pro debut or just a transition fight from the WSB, it makes no difference, a fight is a fight and I love to fight.

I fought in the World Series of Boxing, which isn’t that much different from pro boxing as it is here.

I’m really excited to just get out and fight again, the training I have here in England is very different to the training I had in Turkey, it’s more professional here, I’m really happy with my training and my trainer.

I want to fight for titles, training in London makes the difference, whatever happens now is just a stepping stone to a World title, that’s why I came from Turkey to train, I want the best so I can be the best.”

Onder Ozgul, against a yet to be named opponent, will take place on the undercard of double WBU European Championship headed WARZONE event, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 1^st March 2014.
