MARGULES CONGRATULATES GEORGE, MOLINA AND QUINONES FOR TELEVISED VICTORIES FRIDAY NIGHT
Leon Margules, President of Warriors Boxing, wishes to congratulate his fighters, IBF #10 super middleweight Don "Da Bomb" George (23-2-1, 20 KOs), IBF #6, WBC #8 junior middleweight "King" Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KOs) and Cuban light heavyweight Vilier Quinonez (5-0, 3 KOs) for their impressive victories Friday night at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, and live on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Chicago native George scored a TKO 6 over opponent Dionisio Miranda after the one-sided bout was stopped between the sixth and seventh rounds. A powerful puncher, George stalked his Colombian opponent behind thudding one/two combinations. He started catching Miranda with regularity in the fourth. After a couple rounds of eating strong right hands, the normally durable Miranda had had enough.
George was originally scheduled to face Adonis Stevenson in an IBF eliminator bout, but Stevenson was forced to withdraw with a hand injury.
True to form, Molina dominated opponent Damian Frias over 10 shutout rounds. Frias had no idea what to do with the tricky Molina. Coming in behind fast combinations to the head and body, Molina used angles masterfully to befuddle Frias and win every round on all three judges' scorecards.
On the undercard, Cuban power puncher Vilier Quinones dominated super durable opponent Eddie Tigs of Texas over four rounds. Quinones showed good schooling in mixing his shots to the head and body while seldom eating any return fire. Tigs is tough and took a beating many opponents wouldn't or couldn't withstand. The scores were 40-36 across the board.
"Donovan looked terrific tonight and Adonis Stevenson is probably lucky he got hurt. We'll be going into that fight this Fall with great confidence based on how good he looked. Carlos was sensational. Frias can fight and he just had no clue what to do with Carlos. It was the kind of performance that an elite fighter would put in against a contender-level opponent. Vilier continues his development and showed great poise when faced with an opponent who doesn't succumb to his power. I am very happy with all three outcomes and proud of my fighters."

Frias Looking to Take Page out of Molina Book with Surprise Upset Victory
Damian "Devo" Frias (19-4-1, 10 KOs) and his trainer, John David Jackson, are finishing up preparations for his nationally televised co-main event against top junior middleweight contender "King" Carlos Molina (19-5-2, 6 KOs) this Friday, August 17, at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.
Presented by Warriors Boxing and Tony Holden Productions, the blockbuster night of boxing will serve as the ESPN Friday Night Fights season finale for 2012 (10 PM Eastern on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3) and also features a super middleweight co-main event between Chicago's Don "Da Bomb" George (22-2-1, 19 KOs) and powerful Colombian slugger Dionisio Miranda (21-7-2, 18 KOs).
Frias and renowned trainer Jackson have been putting in the hours at Contenders Gym in Sunrise, Florida, trying to ensure that a surprise Frias victory will propel the 35-year-old late bloomer to where he wants to be in boxing.
Cuban American Frias is an elusive southpaw with good technical skills. He is coming off the biggest win of his career, a nine-round stoppage of then 22-1 Henry Crawford last September.
Why would you take a fight against Carlos Molina, the most dangerous spoiler in the division and maybe in all of boxing?
I'm a fighter. To be a fighter, you have to be willing to fight. I also find myself with no fights, so I'm up for the challenge and willing to take a chance to get where I have to go. I do this for my family. I train hard and work hard and I don't want to waste anybody's time. I have to take fights like this that nobody wants.
Why do you think you have problems finding fights?
Probably because I'm a Cuban southpaw.
Tell me about your start in boxing.
I came into boxing at 25 with no amateur experience. Only had 3 amateur fights. I'm learning on the job. When I was young, I was always into football and baseball and then I had an incident in my life where I lost eight years, so to turn it around, I wanted to do something with my life, so I walked in the gym and took it from there. I enjoy competing.
You're coming off a big victory in your last fight. Tell me about it.
Henry Crawford. People say it's my biggest win, but I had time to prepare myself for him and I knew who I was fighting and what I was getting into. I got a chance to study him and stuff like that. I do better when I have time to prepare.
Have you had enough time to prepare for Molina?
I had enough time to get ready for Molina, plus I've seen him fight enough times. Me and him are pretty much on the same side of the fence. He's proven himself, but let's be honest. They bring him in to lose like they do to me and you have to turn it around on them. I know exactly what's going on.
What do you think of Carlos as a fighter?
He's a good fighter and he's been in with some good guys. He's a difficult, hungry fighter and I have a lot of respect for him. But I have to beat people like him to get where I want to go.
What would a victory over Molina mean to you?
It'd mean a lot to me, personally. I hope I do so well that some promoters see me and want to bring me back and help me get where I want to go. I feel like I belong in the top 10 or top 15. I feel I paid my dues and put in my work.
You started late in boxing, so how have you managed to become as good as you are?
I've been in the gym with a lot of great fighters: Andre Berto, Chop Chop Corley, Zab Judah, that Aydin guy that just fought Guerrero, you name them. Breidis Prescott. Randall Bailey. I've sparred with all those guys, so I've been around a lot of world champions and I've been able to pick up a couple tricks or two.
Tell me about your new trainer John David Jackson.
John David is more my style. He's a southpaw fighter like me. In his days he was elusive. I do that at times. We have a good relationship. I've learned a lot from him. He's a cool, humble guy. He's the type of guy that will not only explain to you how to throw the proper punches, but also why you should throw it that way. He's very technical.
How do you picture this fight going on Friday?
I picture working on my jab. I always picture my fights going the distance. I picture me winning a good, hard, tough fight.

Dionisio Miranda Steps in to Face Donovan George on Friday Night Fights Season Finale
Colombian Dionisio Miranda (21-7-2, 18 K0s) will step in to face Chicago's Don "Da Bomb" George (22-2-1, 19 KOs) in the 10-round super middleweight co-main event of the ESPN Friday Night Fights 2012 series finale (10 PM Eastern on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3) presented by Warriors Boxing and Tony Holden Productions, scheduled for Friday, August 17, at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.
George's original opponent, Adonis Stevenson, has been forced to pull out of their 12-round elimination bout with a hand injury.
The other 10-round co-main event battle between top junior middleweight contender "King" Carlos Molina (19-5-2, 6 KOs) and Miami's Damian "Devo" Frias (19-4-1, 10 KOs) will go on as scheduled.
Miranda, a veteran who has notable wins over Lujuan Simon and Sebastian Demers, has been on the short end of competitive big fights with Peter Quillen, Roman Karmazin and Renan St Juste. A big puncher who comes to fight, he could create problems for George.
"Adonis Stevenson injured his left hand in sparring last Friday," said a disappointed Yvon Michel, President of Groupe Yvon Michel, Stevenson's promoters. "The next day he went to see a doctor who diagnosed a severe bruise and major swelling. Adonis was not able to close his hand and make a fist. Treatments were done in hopes of improvement but there was not enough progress and under the doctor's advice it was decided to pull Adonis out of his fight."
According to Michel, Stevenson is now in Montreal receiving treatment. The IBF super middleweight title eliminator will be rescheduled for early this fall.
"Team Stevenson and GYM are very disappointed for all the inconvenience this situation has created for ESPN and their programming director, Doug Loughrey, to Warriors Boxing and their president, Leon Margules, and to Tony Holden and the Buffalo Run Casino and Resort. Everyone was so cooperative to make this fight happen. And to all our partners in Canada who were diligently working to program and sell this fight on PPV on short notice, and also to Team George who has carefully prepared for this important encounter. We wish him good luck on Friday."
Warriors Boxing President, Leon Margules, says he's disappointed by this turn of events, but is confident the event will still generate action worthy of the finale of the outstanding 2012 season of Friday Night Fights.
"Donovan is obviously disappointed by this, but we all know these things happen in boxing. We wish Adonis Stevenson a speedy recovery. But what we still have in this event is a compelling junior middleweight fight between two top-tier guys with reputations for pulling off upsets and we've got Donovan George against a Columbian slugger with a difficult style to figure out. So, as sad as we all are about what happened, we still have a good challenge in front of us this Friday and we'll be ready."

Thomas Oosthuizen Shines in U.S. Television Debut With Unanimous Decision Victory over Marcus “Too Much” Johnson
Luis Orlando Del Valle & Jose Pedraza Score Action-Packed Unanimous Decision Wins
From Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.
Catch the Replay this Tuesday, May 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME®
MIAMI, Okla. (April 28, 2012) –- Thomas Oosthuizen made the most of his United States television debut on ShoBox: The New Generation by producing a crowd-pleasing unanimous decision victory over Marcus “Too Much” Johnson. The 10-round super middleweight bout was scored 98-91 on all three scorecards. In the SHOWTIME® co-feature, unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle scored a hard-fought, 10-round unanimous decision over Christopher Martin by the tallies of 100-89, 98-91 and 97-92. In the evening’s opening bout, Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza won a unanimous decision over the relentless Gil Garcia by the scores of 79-72 and 80-71 two times in an eight-round super featherweight bout from Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.
After losing the first fight of his career in his last ShoBox appearance, Johnson (21-2, 15 KOs), of Houston, came out bullish and determined to outperform the IBO super middleweight titlist Oosthuizen. Jumping out from his corner at the opening bell, Johnson bolted directly at his six-foot-four opponent and attacked him with a barrage of head and body blows. Oosthuizen (19-0-1, 13 KOs) of Gauteng, South Africa, absorbed some early punishment but maintained his composure.
Despite his height advantage of more than five inches, the tall South African did not always keep his distance, choosing to fight off the ropes during many portions of the contest. As the bout entered the fourth and fifth rounds, the 26-year-old Johnson slowed and Oosthuizen upped his work rate. A busy southpaw, Oosthuizen threw most of his punches in bunches including repeated left-right, left-right combos to the ribs.
In the eighth, Oosthuizen pressured Johnson into the blue corner and forced the Texan to take a knee after landing a right hook to the body. Johnson beat the count and the two battled it out for the final rounds before the scores revealed that Oosthuizen claimed the latest victory in his budding career.
“I never underestimated Johnson,” said the 24-year-old Oosthuizen. “I expected him to come out fast but I knew it would be sink or swim. I think he was surprised when I surpassed his big punches at the beginning. I could tell he was beginning to tire by the third or fourth round because I could hear how heavily he was breathing.”
In the co-feature, Del Valle (16-0, 11 KOs), of Bayamon, P.R., continued his pursuit of contender status with a win over his toughest opponent to date. The Puerto Rico native won the early rounds before Martin began to work his strong jab in the fourth to make it a closer fight. Both natural counter punchers, the boxers got busier as the fight advanced.
In the seventh, Martin (23-2-3, 6 KOs), of Chula Vista, Calif., was having a strong round and switched to southpaw stance only to get caught by a left hook that dropped him to the floor. When he rose to his feet, Dell Valle pressed forward but Martin regained his composure and survived the round.
Del Valle and Martin engaged in many rousing exchanges over the last three rounds that created swelling above the right eye of both 25-year-old fighters – as well as excitement in the venue through the final bell.
To open the evening, Pedraza (8-0, 6 KOs) and Garcia (5-3-1, 1 KO) put on an entertaining display of boxing. The highly touted prospect out of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Pedraza amassed “a frightening connect percentage,” said SHOWTIME expert analyst Steve Farhood, landing 60 percent (281 of 471) of his shots. In the fifth round, Pedraza badly staggered Houston’s Garcia with several shots to the head. Referee Vic Drakulich ruled it a knockdown but video replay revealed that Garcia did not touch the canvas and was not held up by the ropes. By late in the sixth round, Pedraza had opened a cut over Garcia’s left eye.
Unfazed by the near knockdown or cut, Garcia pushed forward. Though Pedraza proved to be the quicker and more polished boxer, Garcia won the crowd with his no-quit, unyielding fight style. Garcia gave Pedraza a tough test through his resilience and body attack but it was not enough to win the fight.
Mike Crispino called the action on ShoBox with Farhood serving as expert analyst. Gordon Hall is the executive producer of ShoBox with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.
