WHITTIER, CALIFORNIA (October 19, 2013) - Tonight at the Pico Rivera Arena in Whittier California, Gary Shaw Productions in association with La Noria Entertainment presented a fun, exciting night of boxing.  In the 10-round main event, fan favorite Alejandro Luna (16-0, 12 KOs) won by way of TKO after his opponent Daniel Attah (28-17-1, 11 KOs)could not continue after round six.  Luna switching back and forth from southpaw to orthodox used a vicious body attack to control the action.  Attah never landed any hard punches that could keep Luna off of him as Alejandro applied pressure throughout the fight.   The fans were thrilled to see the referee stop the bout and raise the hand of their local hero. "This was a good test to see how I could fair against a crafty veteran," said Luna. "I applied a tremendous amount of pressure and eventually got him out of there.  I knew my body shots were slowing him down so I continued to go to the body.  I want to thank all my fans who came to see me fight tonight and especially my promoter Gary Shaw for giving me this opportunity."   6-Round Super Bantamweight Bout In an all action bout, Roy Tapia and Sergio Najera gave the fans in attendance a crowd pleasing fight.  Tapia was loading up with power shots as Najera was countering with combinations.  Both fighters were letting their hand go but it was Tapia that was landing the cleaner shots.  Najera stood his ground and forced Tapia to go hard for the entire fight.  Scorecards read 60-54 for Tapia.   4-Round Welterweight Bout Using superior boxing skills while applying pressure, Arnold Barboza Jr. dominated Douglas Rosales over four rounds.  Barboza was landing one two combos throughout the fight.  Rosales showed grit going the distance but never landed and hard punches to keep Barboza from honest.  Scorecards read 40-36 across the board for Barboza.  Arnold Barboza Jr. (3-0) defeats Douglas Rosales (0-2)   4-Round Lightweight Bout Making their pro debuts, Myra Manzo and Edelma Jeffrey entered the ring with winning on their mind.  Jeffery was doing her best to box from the outside as Manzo was walking her down.  Once Manzo got Jeffery on the ropes she landed a flurry of hard punches and the referee stopped the bout at the 1:00mark of round one.   It was a good stoppage as Jeffery wasn't throwing and punches after feeling the power of Manzo.  Myra Manzo (1-0, 1 KO) defeats Edelma Jeffrey (0-1)   4-Round Lightweight Bout In an all out slugfest, lightweights Jose Garcia and Alejandro Ochoa let their hands go for four hard rounds.  Both fighters were throwing wild hooks but it was Garcia who landed the money shots, dropping Ochoa in rounds one and three.  Ochoa showed heart getting up off the canvas and never seemed seriously hurt.  The fight went the distance and the scorecards read 38-36 twice 39-35 all in favor for Garcia.  Jose Garcia (3-6, 2 KOs) defeats Alejandro Ochoa (3-5-1, 1 KO)

WHITTIER, CALIFORNIA (October 18, 2013) - Gary Shaw Productions in association with La Noria Entertainment is thrilled to be giving fans an action packed night of boxing this Saturday October 19, 2013 at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena in Whittier, CA.  The 10-round main-event of the evening is between lightweight prospect Alejandro Luna (14-0, 11 KOs) and the hardnosed veteran Daniel Attah (28-16-1, 11 KOs).  Luna is coming into the fight with 5 KO/TKO wins in his last 7 outings, while Attah is trying to get back into the win column following some recently tough matchmaking. Luna is quite the draw and he will enjoy a favorable crowd when he steps into the ring on Saturday.  As a fast rising prospect, the undefeated Luna hopes to benefit from a win over the most notable opponent on his resume, but it won't be an easy task as Attah has been in the ring with some of boxing's best. The co-main event on the card features another undefeated fighter in Roy Tapia (7-0-1, 3KOs), also from California.  The junior featherweight Tapia takes on Sergio Najera of Tijuana, Mexico in a 6-round bout.  Tapia promises to bring a crowd pleasing fight to Najera. ALEJANDRO LUNA HEADLINES AT THE PICO RIVERA SPORTS ARENA SATURDAY OCT, 19

October 3, 2013 - Gary Shaw Productions in association with La Noria Entertainment present a special night of boxing on October 19, 2013 at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena, in Whittier, CA.  Hometown hero and undefeated lightweight sensation, Alejandro "El Charrito" Luna (14-0, 11 KOs), will challenge crafty veteran Daniel Attah (28-16-1, 11 KOs) in the 10-round main event attraction.  The bout will in the lightweight division.  A live concert will take place after the fight where fans can enjoy the festive music of Los Canelos and Rebeldes.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the Mexican flood victims. 

Luna, a popular figure in his community, is excited to be fighting at home where his fans are expected to come out in masses. This marks the first time Luna will be fighting in his hometown and he's promising to deliver a great night of boxing.

Alejandro has stopped three of his last four opponents and looks to continue his winning ways as he stated, "I like to throw hard punches to the body and wear my opponent down.  If I see that my opponent is hurt, then everyone who's seen me fight knows I'm going for the KO.  I'll be happy if the knockout comes early, but will be ready to go the distance if need be."

RUSTAM "THE MONGOOSE" NUGAEV IN REACH FOR A WORLD TITLE SHOT

 

September 4, 2013 - Gary Shaw Productions lightweight contender, Rustam "The Mongoose" Nugaev (25-6-1, 15 KOs) has been spectacular since his return to the ring after a two year layoff due to personal issues.  In his first fight back Nugaev destroyed undefeated Peruvian star, Jonathan Maicelo (20-1, 12 KOs) by means of an 8th round KO.  The fight was nationally shown on ESPN "Friday Night Fights", the first televised fight of Nugaev's career. 

"When I fought Maicelo, I wanted to show the world that I'm a fighter who is ready to take the lightweight division by storm," said Nugaev. "I was so excited to showcase my skills to a national audience.  I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass me by.  There was nothing Maicelo could have done to defeat me.  I was determined to come out victorious and I did so with a powerful knockout."

Gary Shaw was very impressed with Nugaev's victory against Maicelo as he stated, "Rustam Nugaev showed he has the talent to compete against any of the top lightweights in the world.  Maicelo is a very good fighter, and for Nuegaev to knock him out the way he did is very impressive.  Rustam has a great chin and he's relentless with his pressure style."

After ending Maicelo's unbeaten record, Nugaev followed up with two more knockouts victories against veteran Daniel Attah (28-16-1, 11 KOs) and Texas' Jose Hernandez (14-7-1, 6 KOs).  Against Hernandez, Nugaev would once again get an opportunity to fight on a national stage as the fight was televised on ESPN "FridayNight Fights" for the second time in his career.  Nugaev dazzled with a 5th round destruction of Hernandez.

NUGAEV & PEDRAZA VICTORIOUS ON ESPN FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS

CABAZON, CALIFORNIA (August 10, 2013) - Last night on ESPN "Friday Night Fights", Gary Shaw Productions in association with Lucas Oil presented another exciting night of boxing live from the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, Calif. 

In the 10-round main event, Russian sluger Rustam Nugaev continued to impress the boxing world with a spectacular performance against a game Jose Hernandez.  Both fighters had their moments in the early rounds.  Hernandez would land combinations in spurts as did Nugaev, but it was the Russian who did the most damage in the exchanges.  In the fifth round, Rustam landed a solid temple shot, followed by a vicious body blow that put Hernandez down and out.  Nugaev never backed up during the fight and the pressure was too much for Hernandez who gave a valiant effort in defeat.  With the KO victory, Nugaev moves to (27-4, 15 KOs) as Hernandez drops to (14-7-1, 6 KOs).   The bout was stopped the 1:38 mark of round 5. 

"I wanted to come out here tonight and make a statement," said Nugaev. "Hernandez is a very tough fighter and he's a powerful puncher.  But tonight I wasn't going to be denied.  I will wait patiently to see what Gary Shaw has planned for me next.  I'm gunning for all the top fighters at 135."

"Nugaev is one tough guy," said Hernandez. "I was hitting him with some nice shots and he wasn't backing up.  I came here tonight to win and give the fans a great fight.  Although I came up short, I gave it my all and I'm not ashamed of my performance."

  

In the 10-round co-main event, Puerto Rican sensation Jose "Sniper" Pedraza and Gabriel Tolmajyan went the distance, giving the fans an exciting action packed fight.  Tolmajyan came out strong in the opening round, landing accurate straight lefts that forced Pedraza to switch to the southpaw stance.  Once the switch was made, Pedraza controlled the action using a precise jab to counter the attack Tolmajyan was bringing.  Tolmajyan was the aggressor for most of the fight, but found it hard to land clean shots as Pedraza was moving laterally to avoid getting hit. When the fight went inside, Pedraza's hand speed was a major factor, as he landed multiple 4-punch combinations.  Both fighters were fighting with high energy in the final rounds, but it was Pedraza who came out on top, winning a unanimous decision.  Scorecards ready 97-93 across the board from all three judges. Pedraza improves to (14-0, 9 KOs) while Tolmajyan record stands at (14-3, 3 KOs)

"This was a very difficult fight but I knew I had what it took to come out victorious," said Pedraza. "I had to switch to southpaw early in the fight and I believe that was the winning factor in this fight.  I'm very comfortable fighting southpaw and I know I can go there anytime during a fight.  I want to thankGary Shaw, Javier Bustillo and Lou DiBella for giving me this opportunity.  I'm ready to step up and fight the top contenders in the division."

"I felt like I was in control of the fight early on," Tolmjyan said. "Things started to get away from me in the middle rounds, but I was never hurt at any point in the fight.  I fought hard but tonight Pedraza was the better man."

Undercard Results

  

(6-round Lightweight bout) - Fan favorite, Alejandro Luna (15-0, 11 KOs) remained undefeated with a 2nd round KO of Christopher Rivera (5-13-1, 4 KOs).  Luna was switching from southpaw to conventional in the first round before he landed a straight right to the sternum in round two, forcing Rivera to take a knee.  Rivera couldn't make the ten count and the bout was stopped at the 2:44 mark of round two.  

  

(4-round Super-Bantamweight bout) - Roy Tapia (6-0-1, 3 KOs) out-slugged Eliezer Agosto (2-3, 2 KOs) stopping the Puerto Rican with a vicious body shot.  Both fighters were swinging for the fences but it was Tapia who landed the more powerful blows.  The bout was halted at the 2:15 mark of round three.   

  

(12-round IBF Jr. Lightweight Intercontinental Championship) - Ghana's Emmanuel Tagoe (22-1, 8 KOs) and Mexico's Gerardo Robles (18-12, 9 KOs) went to battle for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Championship.  Robles was the aggressor in the early rounds until Tagoe landed a hard body shot in round four that sent him in retreat mode. Tagoe continued to press the action, stalking Robles while landing numerous blows to the head and body.  After round nine, Robles' corner had seen enough and threw in the towel.  Tagoe wins by TKO but did not capture the IBF Jr. Lightweight title because he was overweight at yesterday's weigh-in. 

(4-round Welterweight bout) - Arnold Barboza Jr. (2-0) sustained his unbeaten record with a hard fought unanimous decision over Vicente Guzman (0-2).  Barboza used his superior boxing skills to cruise to victory.  Scorecards read 40-36 twice and 39-37. 

(4-round Super-Bantamweight bout) - Puerto Rican standout, Edgardo Laboy showed great skills as he outclassed Luis Vargas en route to a 3rd round TKO.  Laboy's footwork and superior punching power was obvious.  In round two, a hematoma above the left eye of Vargas formed from a hard right hook landed by Laboy.  The bout was stopped after Laboy landed another right hook that landed flush on the damaged head of Vargas. Official time of the stoppage was 1:17 of round three. 

(4-round Welterweight bout) - Undefeated welterweight, Joaquin Steve kept his undefeated record intact with a first round destruction of Bryan Edward Brooks.  Steve landed a 4-punch combination at the 1:19 mark and put Brooks down.  After coming up on wobbly legs, the referee stopped the bout.  Steve improves to (5-0-1, 4 KOs).

PEDRAZA vs. TOLMAJYAN HEATS UP AS BOTH FIGHTERS PUT EVERYTHING ON THE LINE

NEW JERSEY (August 6, 2013) - Gary Shaw Productions ESPN Friday Night Fights card, Friday August 9th at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, Calif is heating up.  While the main event of the evening will consist of a pair of rising lightweights, Rustam Nugaev and Jose Hernandez, the co-feature is just as exciting and it has all the potential to steal the show with junior lightweights Gabriel Tolmajyan (14-2-1, 3 KOs) and Jose Pedraza (13-0, 9 KOs) squaring off in a matchup that holds a ton of promise for the winner.

Tolmajyan is coming off of a minor upset win over previously undefeated Puerto Rican standout Jorge Maysonet Jr., and like Maysonet Jr., Pedraza is coming into the bout as an undefeated prospect with a lot to gain from a win.  Tolmajyan knows that another win in front of a televised audience could mean big things for his future and he is focused on the task at hand.

"I can't even describe how badly I want this, I feel like this is my opportunity to move up the rankings and solidify my status as one of the best in the division.  This is my time and I know that in this sport you don't get many, so my plan is to come out and leave it all in the ring," said Tolmajyan.

Pedraza, who's a member of Team Puerto and co-promoted by GSP, Universal Promotions and DiBella entertainment, is on a mission of his own, taking a 3 fight KO streak into his bout with Tolmajyan.  The last being a sensational 7th round knockout on HBO against a durable opponent in Mexico's Sergio Villanueva (26-3-2, 13 KOs).  The fact that he has performed so well in his last few outings has given him the kind of confidence he will need to tackle the obstacle at hand.  Typically, a young undefeated fighter like Pedraza is plagued by a lack of experience, but it is obvious that the 24 year old Puerto Rican  is growing with every fight, both physically and mentally.

"I don't get caught up on my record or my resume like other fighters.  I'm focused on the things that matter and those things are proven every day in the gym.  I stay geared towards winning and getting better in camp.  My confidence doesn't come from the things I've done, it comes from the things I know I'm capable of doing.  My opponent shouldn't concern himself with what I've accomplished on paper, he should worry about what I've learned from my past fights and camps and the fact that I scrutinize myself even in my victories," Pedraza said.

NEW JERSEY (August 5, 2013) - Gary Shaw Productions in association with Lucas Oil look to put on a stellar edition of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, August 9th at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spain Cabazon, Calif.  In action that night, rising lightweight Rustum Nugaev (24-6, 14 KOs) squares off against Jose Hernandez (14-6-1, 6 KOs) in the evening's main event.

Nugaev is coming off of his two biggest wins in a row and ever since his return to the ring in 2013 he's looked solid and stayed busy.  In his last bout, Nugaev defeated veteran Daniel Attah in impressive fashion.   The win was a barometer type victory over an opponent that has been beaten by many top fighters, but his win over Jonathan Maicelo was an impressive upset.  That victory put Nugaev's talent on full display.

The fact that Nugaev is putting himself out there again so quickly with very little downtime in between fights is a main factor in the title implications surrounding him. The kind of run Nugaev has been on is impressive, but he says it is only the beginning.

"I feel great right now, fighters always say these things but I can prove it on August 9th. With the bout headlining Friday Night Fights, Nugaev is in prime position to become a fan favorite. A highly publicized win on ESPN could give Nugaev the attention he needs to get a major fight.

After back to back knockouts against Daniel Attah (28-15-1, 8 KOs) and Jonathan Maicelo (19-1, 11 KOs), Russian born Nagaev is marching toward title contention.  Another win against Hernandez on national television will get Rustum one step closer to a title fight.  He feels his dream is becoming a reality and is excited to be fighting in the main event.

"This will be my third fight back after an extensive layoff and I feel unstoppable at the moment," said Nagaev. "I'm very grateful to Gary Shaw for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents on national TV for the second time this year.  Fighting in the main event is awesome and I promise to give the fans another great fight.  Like always I'm coming to knockout my opponent."

"Rustum is a very respectable young man who has a fighting style that people want to see," Shaw said. "I told him if he keeps on winning, I would be a man of my word and get him some television exposure.  He's looked real good in his last two fights and I expect the same on August 9th."

The co-main event is a fight between two very talented fighters.  Puerto Rico's undefeated sensation, Jose "Sniper" Pedraza is up against a very game Gabriel Tomalyjan.  This fight has fireworks written all over it as both fighters are looking to advance in their careers.

"Tomalyjan is very tough and I know I'll have to be ready to go to war when we step in the ring against each other," said Pedraza. "I feel I'm ready to take my career to the next level and these are the type of fights I have to win.  I'm hungry and I feel I'm the better fighter."

"Pedraza has been touted as the next big star to come from Puerto Rico but he hasn't fought anyone," said Tomalyjan. "In my last fight I beat his fellow countryman Jorge Maysonet Jr (11-1, 10 KOs) who was also highly regarded as the next star from Puerto Rico.  I ended Maysonet's undefeated streak and I plan on doing the same against Pedraza."

"Pedraza vs. Tomalyjan is a fan friendly fight and the winner goes on to bigger and better things," stated Shaw. "These are the fights the fans want to see and may the best man win."

The undercard will showcase a number of talented fighters.  Emmanuel Tagoe (21-1, 8 KOs) and Gerardo Robles (16-11, 7 KOs) clash in a 12-round bout for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental super featherweight title.  Popular undefeated slugger, Alex Luna (14-0, 10 KOs) and Christopher Rivera(5-12-1, 4 KOs) will battle in a 6-round lightweight bout.  Unbeaten Roy Tapia (5-0-1, 2 KOs) and Eliezer Agosto (2-2, 2 KOs) square off in 6-round super bantamweight bout.  Edgardo Laboy (6-0, 3 KOs) and Jose Iniguez (6-16, 1 KO) fight in a 6-round super bantamweight bout.  Super welterweight Arnold Barboza (1-0) will face a fighter to be announced.
