ESPN "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS" SHAFIKOV ENDS NUGAEV WINNING STREAK JOSE PEDRAZA STOPS MARTINEZ IN SIX

SANTA YNEZ, CA (August 15, 2014) - Gary Shaw Productions presented another great edition ofESPN "Friday Night Fights" at the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif.

In the main-event, Lightweight contender Rustam Nugaev's (27-7-1, 17 KOs) five fight knockout streak was halted by a very determined Denis Shafikov (34-1-1, 18 KOs), who put on a stellar performance winning by TKO at the 1:16 mark of round 9.  With the victory, Shafikov becomes the mandatory challenger to fight IBF Lightweight Champion Miguel Vasquez, whom he just lost a close unanimous decision to in his last fight.

"Tonight Shafikov was the better man," said Nugaev. "I couldn't get into a good rhythm with my game plane and it showed.  I still feel I have a lot of fight left in me and I promise I'll be back to fight another day.  I want to thank Gary Shaw for all that he's done for me.  I'm very disappointed I didn't perform to my best ability tonight, but like I said...I'll be back."

In the co-main event, Puerto Rico's shining star and IBO Super-Featherweight champion, Jose "Sniper" Pedraza (18-0, 12 KOs), looked sensational as he defeated the rough and rugged Juan Carlos Martinez (20-15-1, 7 KOs) by way of knockout when Martinez quit on his stool after the sixth round.  The win gets Pedraza one step closer to a world title opportunity as he is currently rankedWBA #4, IBF #7 and WBC #7.

"I knew Martinez was a very tough fighter coming in, but I wanted to make a statement and let the boxing world know that I'm for real," said Pedraza. "I feel I'm ready to fight any of the champions in my weight class.  I'm going to let my promoter Gary Shaw put everything together.  I know I have the talent to bring a world title back home to my people of Puerto Rico.  I'll be back in the gym as soon as I return home."

ESPN "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS" NUGAEV vs. SHAFIKOV

FRIDAY AUGUST  15, 2014
FROM THE CHUMASH RESORT CASINO

"This is going to be one hell of a fight" - Gary Shaw

SANTA YNEZ, CA (August 11, 2014) - Promoter Gary Shaw believes the scheduled main-event onESPN "Friday Night Fights" this week, featuring lightweights Rustam Nugaev vs. Denis Shafikov, is going to be a potential fight of the year candidate.

Nugaev (27-6-1, 17 KOs), who's rated IBF #5, WBC #3 and WBA #7, is currently riding a 5-fight knockout streak since arriving from Russian in 2013.  Shafikov (33-1-1, 18 KOs), is coming off a 12-round unanimous loss to current IBF champion, Miguel Vasquez (33-3, 13 KOs).  Both fighters have an aggressive style which Gary Shaw believes will make for an exciting night of boxing.  The winner will position himself as the mandatory challenger to fight for the IBF title.

"This is going to be one hell of a fight for the fans," said Gary Shaw. "Nugaev is a tremendous puncher with a great chin and he loves to bring the fight to his opponent.  Shafikov is similar as he also likes to come forward and throw big shots. Both fighters have a lot to gain with a victory.  With the winner becoming the mandatory to fight for the IBF title, I see nothing but fireworks in this fight, and I feel Nugaev will come out on top."

"I have to commend ESPN for showcasing a real fight, a fight that the fans are guaranteed to enjoy.  There have been a lot of mismatches in boxing of late and fight fans deserve to see more hard-hitting competitive fights, especially in a main event attraction.  In Nugaev vs. Shafikov, you have two fighters who are putting everything on the line to get a world title opportunity.  This Friday a "WAR" will be shown on ESPN "Friday Night Fights" so everyone should be tuning in.  This fight has the potential to be Fight of the Year."

The ESPN "Friday Night Fights" telecast begins Friday August 15, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. EST / 6:00 p.m. PST from the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif.

CAMP NOTES RUSTAM NUGAEV

Photos By Peter Politanoff

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 4, 2014) - Gary Shaw Productions highly ranked lightweight contender, Rustam Nugaev (27-6-1, 17 KOs), who's rated IBF #5, WBC #3 and WBA #7, is less than two weeks away from his mandatory IBF elimination bout with Denis Shafikov (33-1-1, 18 KOs).  The 12-round bout will air live on ESPN "Friday Night Fights" and will take place at Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif., on August 15, 2014.

Nugaev on the current state of his training camp...
"Training camp has been very hard this time around.  We always train hard but in this camp we stepped it up a bit.  I've been sparring with top level opposition and I'm in great shape.  I feel my punches are landing with a lot of force.  There are no corners being cut in this camp and I'll be ready to fight to the death against Shafikov."

Nugaev on training with Rudy Hernandez...
"Rudy is an excellent trainer who understands the boxing game.  He's been around for many years and he's teaching me all the tricks of the trade.  There are a lot of little things he teaches me that helps me prepare against certain styles.  Every fighter is different and Rudy knows how to put the game plan together for each opponent.  Together we are going to the top."

Nugaev speaks on fighting in a world title elimination bout...
"I feel I've earned my way to this position by beating top contenders.  Against Macielo, who was undefeated and rated very high, I was able to knock him out.  No one has been able to go the distance with me in my last five fights.  This is my chance to get one step closer to fight for a world title and I'm not going to let it slip away."

Nugaev talks about his opponent Denis Shafikov...
"Shafikov recently fought for the IBF world title but came up short against Miguel Vasquez.  That is his only loss so I know he can fight.  He does a lot of things well in the ring and I'm going to have to be smart when we fight.  I feel I have the power to slow him down and get him out of there before the final bell rings.  This will be an all out war and the fans will please with my performance.

Nugaev talks about fighting on ESPN "Friday Night Fights"...
"Fighting on ESPN "Friday Night Fights" is great because everyone can tune in and see me fight.  I've done a lot of damage on this network and I'm looking to do the same against Shafikov.  I want to thank my promoter Gary Shaw for this opportunity."

GARY SHAW FIGHTERS MARCH UP WBC RANKINGS

NEW JERSEY (April 19, 2014) - Gary Shaw Productions is happy to announce the ranking updates of six GSP fighters, who have worked their way up the WBC ratings.  Fighting in a heavyweight elimination bout, is # 4 ranked contender Bryant Jennings (18-0, 11 KOs).  Former two-time Australian Middleweight world champion, Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs), is ranked # 2.  At Lightweight (135 lbs), Rustam Nugaev (27-6-1, 17 KOs) is rated # 4, while the undefeated Alejandro Luna (17-0, 13 KOs) is # 10.  Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KOs) is rated # 4 at Super-Lightweight, and Jose Pedraza (16-0, 10 KOs) is now # 5 at Super-Featherweight (130 lbs), putting Puerto Rico on the map.

Daniel Geale is right back into title contention with his recent victory over world rated Garth Wood, and will now be fighting Matthew Macklin in a meaningful bout.  Geale is knocking on the doorstep of a world title bout.  Look for him to go all out against Macklin.

Jennings possesses the athletic ability that hasn't been seen in the heavyweight division is some time.  His style some would say emulates Evander Hollyfield, because of his slippery defense and deceptive punching power.  As a late bloomer, Jennings is now coming into his own, getting better with each bout.  A world title bout against Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KOs) is on the horizon, should he beat Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KOs) in his upcoming title elimination bout.

Thomas Dulorme is on a roll, winning five fights in a row since his move to Super-Lightweight.  His recent win against former undefeated contender, Karim Mayfield (18-1, 11 KOs), has placed him in position to fight for a world title.  He's hoping to get in the ring with any of the champions at 140 lbs.

Known as a pressure fighter, Rustam Nugaev has been unstoppable of late, destroying everyone in his path, winning his last five bouts by knockout.  He's on the cusp of a world title opportunity and would like to face any of the champions at 135 lbs.

Pedraza is a technical fighter with immense boxing skills.  His ability to adapt to any style makes him a problem for any challenger.  If need be, Pedraza who is a conventional right handed fighter, can switch his stance to southpaw and not lose any momentum during a fight.  He's seeking a fight with champion, Takashi Miura or any of the top contenders in his division.  Should Pedraza capture the WBC title at Super Featherweight, he could then move up to Lightweight and have a possible Puerto Rican showdown with Felix Verdejo.

A true Mexican Cowboy, Alejandro "El Charro" Luna is a young hungry 22-year old fighter who has power in both hands.  He also has the skill to switch stances and be extremely effective. His steady march up the rankings is gaining him the notoriety he needs to make a run for a world title shot.  With a massive fan base in Southern California, Luna's ready to challenge any top fighter in the Lightweight division.

"My guys are great men with the character to become stars in this sport," said Gary Shaw. "Geale is one fight away from a world title as is Jennings.  My goal is to get Dulorme, Nugaev and Pedraza in a mega TV fight against any of the current champions in their division by the end of the year.  With Luna, I want him to stay busy and keep him marching up the rankings.  I want to thank the WBC ratings committee for recognizing these future WBC Champions."

PALA, CA (March 7, 2014) - Tonight Gary Shaw Productions in association withGreg Cohen Promotions, Antonio Leonard Promotions and All In Entertainment presented ESPN "Friday Night Fights" to a lively crowd at the Pala Casino Spa and Resort.  Every fight was sensational as all fighters went to war with eachother.

In the 10-round main event, Rustam Nugaev (27-6-1, 17 KOs) and Marvin Quintero(25-5, 21 KOs) provided the fans with a rugged night of action.  Quintero was using his hand speed and lateral movement to get off his punches while Nugaev was establishing a ferocious body attack.  Both fighters were landing power shots, but it seemed that Nugaev was landing the harder blows.  It was a close fight after four rounds but Quintero hurt his hand in the final seconds of the round.  Once the doctor deemed Quintero couldn't continue the fight was ruled a TKO in Nugaev's favor.

"I was just getting into a grove when the bout was halted," said Nugaev. "My body attack was starting to wear down Quintero.  I can see that he was starting to slow down as I was coming forward.  He was a very tough opponent and he was very effective with his punches but I was never hurt.  I feel I was on my way to knocking him out before the fight was stopped.  My promoter Gary Shaw has big plans for me this year and I'm ready to fight for a world title.  I'm taking on anyone who wants to step in the ring with me.  I will be a champion very soon, all I need is an opportunity."

In the 8-round co-feature, undefeated bantamweight sensation, Roman Morales (18-0, 9 KOs) and rugged Russian warrior, Khabir Suleymanov (16-4, 6 KOs) went to war as the fight went the distance in a crowd pleasing fight.  Morales set the tone early as he came forward landing hard body shots.  Suleymanov hit the canvass in the second round as a left hook from Morales landed on his head.  Suleymanov was game and continued on, landing some good right hands but never seemed to hurt Morales who kept coming forward.  Morales dropped Suleymanov three more times before the bout ended. Suleymanov was cut on both eyes while Morales was bleeding from his right cheek.  Both fighters showed a warrior spirit but it was Morales who looked sensation in victory.  Morales won by unanimous decision.  Scorecards read 80-68 and 79-68 twice.

(6-round Welterweight bout)  - Unbeaten welterweight Dusty Harrison (21-0, 11 KOs) marched on with a hard fought victory against a resilient Michael Balasi (10-4, 7 KOs).  After being wobble by a powerful left hook from Balasi in the second round, Harrison came back with a left hook of his own that sent his opponent to the canvass.  Toward the end of the round, Balasi landed another left hook and dropped Harrision as the crowed was on its feet.  Harrison got up and fought smart the rest of the fight, dominating the last four rounds. Harrison dropped Balasi again in the fifth round in route to a unanimous decision.  Scorecards read 60-53 and 59-53 twice.

(8-round Lightweight bout) - In a rematch, undefeated lightweight star, Alejandro Luna (17-0, 13 KOs) demolished Sergio Rivera (18-15-2, 11 KOs) by way of a first round knockout.  A powerful combination by Luan that ended with a left hook to the chin of Rivera ended the bout.

(4-round Jr. Welterweight bout) - Kenneth Sims Jr. (1-0) dominated Cory Muldrew(1-6) in his first professional fight, winning every round convincingly.  A powerful left hook to the body sent Muldrew to the canvass in the second round as Sims Jr. marched on to a four round unanimous decision.  Sims Jr. showed he has the talent to become something special as he displayed a variety of great skills.  Scorecards read 40-35 across the board.

(4-round Bantamweight bout) In his pro debut, amateur standout, Eduardo Martinez(1-0) defeated Juan Urbina (0-2) by way of a four round unanimous decision.
