Goodwin Boxers now have their own gym to use in Turkey

Following a fantastic inaugural training camp in Turkey, Goodwin Boxing are proud to announce that they have acquired a training gym in Turkey for their boxers.

 “This is something we have worked on for a long time but we wanted to do a trial run before making the announcement. Last week former Southern Area Champion Menay Edwards, Kevin Greenwood, Martin Hillman, Jose Lopes, Jordan Joseph and Diego Burton spent six days under the watchful eye of coach and Head of Boxing Operations Kevin Campion running in the mountains at altitude and working in both fitness and boxing gyms.

At the end of the stay Steve Goodwin made a financial offer and Goodwin’s Gym in Turkey was born.

“We will be running our own in house training camps for our boxers” said Goodwin “Our boxers and their trainers are able to use the facilities whenever they want throughout the year. Our next in house training camp will be early 2015 and some more boxers will be coming out to train again and spar with some of the best boxers in Turkey.”

“This is just a part of what we want to be able to do for our boxers and we are working on several other projects which will mean that our boxers will have the same opportunities as those preparing for major world title fights.”

Head of Boxing Operations Kevin Campion finished by saying “The boys last week were a pleasure to train and I can see us spending more and more time with our boxers in Turkey to give them ideal preparation for upcoming fights”.

Devine ready for Connor in grudge match

It is only two weeks until the Olivia Goodwin promoted “To Hell and Back show” opens up the new boxing season at York Hall with a show headlined by the grudge match between two former Southern Area Champions Michael “Chunky” Devine and Danny Cassius Connor.

Both boxers have sold plenty of tickets for a fight that will have the venue buzzing. The fight which is billed for the British Masters Lightweight title but also is a final eliminator for the Southern Area strap held by Adam Dingsdale heads a 10 fight card full of interest.

Devine says “Connor has done a lot of talking but I prefer to do my talking in the ring. Danny is in for a lot of trouble.” Connor feels differently it is all about levels and I am on a higher one. It will be shown on the night”.

Two other title fights offer chief support. George Jupp takes on Andy Harris for the British Masters Super-Featherweight strap whilst Diego Burton and Danny Brown have an eagerly awaited rematch for the Super-Middleweight version.

The controversial Ohara Davies has his third paid contest against Josh Thorne and is looking for his second consecutive knockout in a 4 round lightweight bout.

In a battle of the undefeated Ben Day (6 fights) takes on Velerijs Podojahins (2 fights). Someones ) has to go in this enthralling 6 round light-welterweight contest.

Rakeem “The Noble” Ashaye has been making good progress racking up 5 wins with 2 stoppages and has a 6 round contest against tough Kristian Dochev from Bulgaria.

Sohail “Showstar” Ahmad is 3 from 3 and looks to make  it 4 against Yorkshireman Graham Fearn.

The show sees the battle of the debutants where Ashley Hill takes on Ashley Howard at light middleweight.

Ollie Pinnock an exciting welterweight makes his debut against Vasil Vasilev (Bulgaria) whilst Heavyweight debutant David Jones takes on Moses Matovu.

Finally after an absence from the ring Karol Ozimkowski makes his return against Wales’s Jimmy White.

SMOKIN JOE READY TO SET EXPLODE ON SATURDAY 19TH

After a five month break 27 year old “Smokin” Joe Mullender returns to the ring this Saturday determined to prove he is back on the way up when he takes on Diego Burton for the British Masters Super-Middleweight title.

After racing to five straight wins including a victory in a contender for fight of the year against Gary Boulden, Joe lost his undefeated record in November when dropping a close 96-95 decision against Michael Obin from Sweden.

In hindsight it was a fight Mullender should have pulled out of “I was weight drained trying to get down to the Light-Middleweight limit and was really ill trying to do it. I did contemplate what my future held after the fight but after a switch to Jamie Williams decided I would fight at Super-Middleweight and then drop to Midleweight for Area/English/British titles.”

Mullender continued “I have had the perfect training camp and if Diego beats me I will not have any excuses but….. he won't”.

The Mullender-Burton bout is co feature alongside the International Masters Light-Middleweight clash between former WBO European Champion Dmytro Nikulin from Ukraine (28-1) against former Southern Area Champion Ryan Toms which should be a barnstormer.

It promises to be another action packed and exciting Goodwin Promotions show.

The undercard features up and coming Heavyweight AJ Carter (6-0) against Plamen Niokulov from Bulgaria who is coming off a draw against highly touted Northern Heavyweight David Allen.

Former English Champion and European Title challenger Ashley Sexton makes his first appearance since signing a three year deal with Steve Goodwin.

Also featured on their debuts are former amateur star Ohara Davies, “The Total Package” Aston Mount and Brenny “Blue Eyes” Osborne.

Light-Welterweight Rakeem “The Noble” Ashaye goes for his fourth straight win since turning pro.

Lewison v Dallas - Big Heavyweight clash on!

Forget David Haye v Tyson Fury for the time being. A massive heavyweight clash takes place on 7^th September at York Hall where I an Lewison takes on Tom Dallas for the Southern Area title.

Both fighters have a lot to prove. Lewison is trying to use this fight to break into the big time whilst Dallas is looking to resurrect his career after losses to David Price and Matt Skelton.

This really is a crossroads fight for both and a fight where anything could happen.  Trainer Don Charles said “forget Haye v Fury this could be the heavyweight fight of the year”.

The fight headlines the Olivia Goodwin promoted “Brawl in the Hall”.

There is no love lost between both fighters. Dallas said “I cannot believe how many people fancy Lewison. He lost to Colin Kenna and drew with an Eastern European journeyman. He is my pass to title action and he will not stand in my way.” Lewison retorted “Dallas is going to get assaulted by me. Make sure you bring a pillow for him as I am gonna put him to sleep”.

This intriguing clash is part of an exciting 16 fights card where chief support is the grudge re-match for the Southern Area Cruiserweight title between holder Menay “The emperor” Edwards and JJ Ojuederie. Edwards won the first clash and what ended a bad tempered affair has ended up with a grudge re-match.

Lee Markham competes for the International Masters Super-Middleweight title and the show sees the return of former WBO International champion Tony Conquest in an 6 round contest. The show also features exciting heavyweight prospects Dominic Akinlade and AJ Carter and many others.
