MEXICAN BOXING LEGENDS TALK MARCOS MAIDANA

Julio Cesar Chávez, Erik Morales, Israel Vázquez And Raúl Márquez
Reflect on the Style and Will of "El Chino"

"MAYHEM: MAYWEATHER VS. MAIDANA 2,"
Saturday, Sept. 13, MGM Grand Garden Arena In Las Vegas
Live on SHOWTIME PPV® (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT)

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 28, 2014) - Aggressive, determined and fearless. Proud Argentine and former welterweight champion Marcos "El Chino" Maidana has won the respect of some of the greatest Mexican world champions of our time for the fiery intensity he brings each time he steps through the ropes.

The fact that Maidana is the only boxer to defeat Adrien Broner and one of the very few in history to give 11-Time World Champion and perennial No. 1 pound-for-pound superstar, Floyd "Money" Mayweather, a legitimate test only adds to the anticipation heading into their upcoming rematch.

Here's what the Mexican champions have to say about Maidana as we inch closer to "MAYHEM: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2" on Saturday, Sept. 13 live on SHOWTIME PPV® from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, three-division World Champion and Boxing Hall of Famer
"We all know Marcos Maidana is not a technical fighter, but nobody can deny he is a very dangerous one, perhaps one of the most dangerous fighters Mayweather has ever faced.

"I must confess I was amazed to see how courageous Maidana was; he squared up in front of Mayweather and just went at it with everything he had.

"Maidana possesses a singular characteristic that we usually see only in Mexican fighters - he is simply fearless. He is brave and powerful and from the moment he steps into the ring he fights like there's notomorrow."

ERIK "EL TERRIBLE" MORALES, first Mexican-born boxer to capture World titles in four different weight classes

"When you think of what makes a great Mexican Champion, you think of determination, aggressiveness, heart and the guts to get the job done. That's what it means to be a great Mexican warrior; you leave everything in the ring, your heart and soul are out there.

"I remember watching the first Mayweather vs. Maidana fight back in May and I can say, Maidana left his heart in the ring. He fights with passion and aggressiveness. He leaves it all out there.

"There's no boxing in Las Vegas or anywhere without great Mexican fighters. We all know that. And Maidana has the heart of a Mexican warrior."

ISRAEL "MAGNIFICO" VAZQUEZ,  former super bantamweight World Champion
"Marcos Maidana's boxing style resembles that of the great Mexican fighters. He is fearless, doesn't stand down, he likes to pressure his opponent and has a very powerful punch.

"You have to give Maidana some credit for his boxing skills; he has won the lead role in a rematch fight against one of the best fighters in the world, Floyd Mayweather.

"Besides being a very good fighter, Marcos has a very nice characteristic, he's truly humble.  That's a feature you don't find that often in boxers of his caliber.

"This is a very tough fight for the both of them; that's why I'll refrain from any predictions.  Both fighters have a big test in front of them.

RAUL "DIAMANTE" MARQUEZ, Former IBF 154-Pound World Champion
"Maidana is a fighter that takes the lead and doesn't back up. He comes prepared and he comes to fight.

"Nobody thought that he was going to stand up to Mayweather like he did. He left his heart in the ring.

"He made all Latinos proud. He stood in front of Mayweather like true Mexican champions do.

"He can go the distance if he wants, he's aggressive. He fights with the determination of a Mexican."

Twenty-two-year-old Tijuana native Ivan "Nino Maravilla" Morales (25-0, 14 KOs) is a top Mexican prospect that hopes to add to his nation's rich boxing history by becoming a world champion in the coming years. While he's still young, his efforts thus far have shown him to be a mature fighter with a seemingly endless list of positive attributes. Coming off of a 10-round win over 40-fight veteran Jose Alfredo Tirado in April, Morales heads to Southern California this week to square off against Frias and showcase his skills.

Sergio "Finito" Frias (15-3-2, 8 KOs) is a four-year professional who is unbeaten in his last three fights. A rugged brawler who knows how to mix it up in the ring, the 23-year-old Guadalajara native is ready for a big night in which he makes his Golden Boy Live! and United States debut against one of the top talents in the bantamweight division.

2012 United States Olympian Terrell Gausha (10-0, 5 KOs) has been one of the most impressive members of the class of 2012 thus far. He's already scored wins over George Sosa, Charles Whittaker and James Winchester in 2014. With Johnny Manziel and LeBron James making recent headlines in Gausha's hometown of Cleveland, the 26-year-old wants to be the next big name in the sports-rich city. This week, he meets Tulsa, Oklahoma's Ronnie "The Natural" Warrior Jr. (15-8-1, 5 KOs) in an eight-round fight. Winner of two straight, the 37-year-old Warrior Jr. has some gas in the tank to beat a hot prospect like Gausha.

Before the Gomez bout, the 21-year-old Arnett defeated three prospects in a row and he's aiming for a big win on July 25 against Hernandez, a veteran armed with experience and knockout power.

Three hot prospects will put their perfect professional records on the line this week as well, with Racine, WI featherweight Mario Barrios (4-0, 1 KO) facing Salvador Perez (2-4-2, 1 KO) of Campeche, Mexico, Buenos Aires junior welterweight Damian Sosa (7-0, 6 KOs) will make his professional U.S. debut against Ryan Picou (1-3) of Los Angeles in a six-round junior welterweight bout and and North Hollywood native Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (9-0, 8 KOs) will face Demetrius Walker (7-5-1, 4 KOs) of Kansas City.

A respected amateur standout who competed in the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials, Fort Myers, Florida's Bryant Perrella (5-0, 4 KOs) has stopped four of his five professional opponents thus far, most recently halting previously unbeaten Benito Tovar in a single round in May. On Friday, he will seek his third victory of 2014 against 26-year-old Philadelphian Christian Steele (4-8-2, 1 KO), who is unbeaten in two of his last three.

In middleweight action, popular Palmdale, Calif. resident Neeco Macias (5-0, 1 KO) looks to make it six straight in a four-round bout against Inglewood's Robert Hill (1-5) and in the four-round super middleweight opener, Nashville, Tenn. native Caleb Plant (3-0, 1 KO) faces Los Angeles' Ryan True (1-1-1, 1 KO).

UNDEFEATED STAR FRANKIE GOMEZ TO FACE THE HARD-HITTING VERNON PARIS IN JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT SHOWDOWN ON FRIDAY, JULY 25 AT FANTASY SPRINGS RESORT CASINO IN INDIO, CALIF. LIVE ON FOX SPORTS 1 & FOX DEPORTES

Plus Bantamweight Prospects Ivan Morales To Be Featured

Tickets Go On Sale Friday, July 4!

INDIO, CALIF. (July 3) - Unbeaten Frankie "Pitbull" Gomez is considered to be the most dangerous prospect in the junior welterweight division and on Friday, July 25, he will face his toughest challenge yet when he meets Florida's Vernon Paris in the 10-round main event of FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes' Golden Boy Live! at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. The co-main event is expected to be just as heated when rising bantamweight star Ivan Morales is featured in a 10-round battle against an opponent to be determined.

As a special treat for fans in attendance, the legendary Erik "El Terrible" Morales won't just be at Fantasy Springs to cheer on his brother Ivan, the Mexican great will also meet and greet fans throughout the evening, making this a fight night that aficionados won't want to miss.

"We are so proud of the success of the Golden Boy Live! series to date and July 25th will be no exception," said Oscar De La Hoya, president and founder of Golden Boy Promotions. "We are thrilled to provide a national television platform for rising stars such as Frankie Gomez and Vernon Paris to continue their mark on the sweet science."

Gomez vs. Paris, a 10-round junior welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Golden Ram. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

After a stellar amateur career, East Los Angeles' Frankie "Pitbull" Gomez (17-0, 13 KOs) has made a steady rise in the ranks of the 140-pound weight class since turning professional in 2010. At just 22 years of age, sweet science insiders already expect him to make his move into the title picture within the next 12 months. To do that, he has to follow up his last four victories over Pavel Miranda (KO1), Lanard Lane (W10), Prince Doku Jr. (TKO1) and Orlando Vazquez (KO2) with another impressive showing against Paris, his toughest test to date on July 25.

A native of the boxing-rich city of Detroit, 26-year-old Vernon Paris (28-1, 16 KOs) has one thing on his mind heading into his July 25 bout with Frankie Gomez - handing the Californian his first professional defeat. And if anyone has the talent and desire to do it, it's Paris, a former USBA champion whose only loss came against multi-division former World Champion Zab Judah in 2012. Since then, Paris has won two fights straight and he's looking for three at Fantasy Springs.

Coming off of a 10-round win over 40-fight veteran Jose Alfredo Tirado in April, Morales heads to Southern California later this month for his third fight in the United States against an opponent to be determined.

A full undercard will be announced shortly.

A CLASSIC COUNTDOWN TO "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO" AIRS ON AUGUST 10 ON FOX DEPORTES

FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER VS. MIGUEL COTTO
DANNY "SWIFT" GARCIA VS. ERIK "EL TERRIBLE" MORALES I
ZAB "SUPER" JUDAH VS. LUCAS "THE MACHINE" MATTHYSSE

ALL TO BE AIRED ON BROADCAST

LOS ANGELES, August 7 - The biggest boxing event of 2013 is a little over a month away and with anticipation rising, FOX Deportes will do their part to get fight fans ready for "THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo" with three hours of "Golden Boy Classics" on Saturday, August 10 beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

First up is the 2010 battle between former World Champion Zab Judah and WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse.  Then at 10:00 p.m., Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia challenges the legendary Erik Morales for his first World Championship in 2012 and in the main event at 11:00 p.m., Floyd "Money" Mayweather meets former World Champion Miguel Cotto in their epic May 2012 clash.

Dominant against anyone and everyone put in front of him for years, Floyd Mayweather's boxing dominance was internationally recognized.  But on May 5, 2012, "Money" gave the fans an even more impressive show as he stood and traded with hard-hitting Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto, pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision that proved Mayweather's ability to do it all in the ring once again.

Despite his success on the way up the 140-pound ladder, no one outside of his team knew how Danny Garcia would react to facing a legend like Erik Morales in Houston, Texas on March 24, 2012.  But in his first world title fight, Philadelphia's Garcia rose to the occasion, dropping Morales in the 11th round en route to a 12-round decision win that earned him the WBC 140-pound crown.

Two Division World Champion Zab Judah had to walk through fire when he faced off with Lucas Matthysse at New Jersey's Prudential Center on November 6, 2010.   Judah rose from the canvas in the 10th round against his then-unbeaten foe to pound out a 12-round split decision.  Many left the arena that night believing Matthysse was the victor, but the Argentinean banger would get his shot at glory soon enough.

Paulie Malignaggi Defends Title With Split Decision Victory; Peter Quillin Outduels Hassan N’Dam In Exciting 12 Round Bout; DevonAlexander Wins Title With Unanimous Decision

BROOKLYN, NY (Oct. 21, 2012) – Boxing returned to Brooklyn in triumphant fashion with four world title fights capped off by Danny Garcia’s (25-0, 16 KO’s) fourth round knockout of Erik Morales (52-9, 36 KO’s) to defend his Unified Super Lightweight World Championship in front of more than 11,000 fans at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday night.

Garcia was in command from the first round as he pounded Morales with punishing body shots.  The bout was stopped at the 1:23 mark of the fourth round when the 24-year-old Garcia sent the veteran Morales crashing into the ropes with a perfectly timed left hook.

“That left hook, I got that from my mom,” said a jubilant Garcia after the fight.  “Her side of the family is all left handed.”

The 36 year old Morales was dejected and humble after the fight.  He graciously accepted the loss and said (through a translator), “Time goes by.  This is a sign that the end is near.”

“He’s a crafty veteran,” said Garcia of his opponent, a virtual lock for the Hall of Fame.  “I really thought we’d go 12 rounds.  He hit me with a couple of good shots, but I came back strong.

“In our first fight, I laid back a little too much.  In this fight, I was more confident and I knew I could set up my punches and land some big shots.

“You know I’ll fight anyone.  I never duck anyone and I know those guys want all these belts.  They have to come get them from me.”

In a co-feature, Paulie Malignaggi’s WBA Welterweight World Title was not on the line as Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KO’s) failed to make the 147-pound limit on Friday.  Malignaggi, a Brooklynnative (32-4, 7 KO’s), won a close split decision over Cano in the 12-round bout.  The final marks from the judges came in at 114-113 twice (Malignaggi) and 118-109 (Cano), which produced mixed reactions from the crowd.

In a battle of undefeated middleweights, rising star Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s) of Manhattanoutdueled France’s Hassan N’Dam (27-1, 17 KO’s) to capture his first world title.  Quillin knocked N’Dam down six times en route to a unanimous decision victory which captured him the WBO 160-pound world title.  All three judges scored the fight 115-107.

In the first world title fight of the night, Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) defeated Randall Bailey (43-8, 37 KO’s) to become the IBF Welterweight world champion.  The judges were all in agreement as they scored the fight 115-111, 116-110 and 117-109.

Earlier in the night on the SHOWTIME EXTREME televised undercard, Danny Jacobs (23-1, 19 KO’s) defeated Josh Luternan (13-2, 9 KO’s) with an impressive first round knockout.  This victory was even more special for Jacobs as he made his return to boxing after undergoing surgery and rehab for a debilitating spinal cancer in 2011.

Saturday’s fights will replay on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME.  Saturday’s telecast will be available anytime at SHOWTIME On Demand beginning Oct. 21
