Lewkowicz Congratulates Casimero for IBF Eliminator KO Over Santos

Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing wishes to congratulate the fighter he co-promotes (along with Philippine promoter Samson Gello-ani), former IBF junior flyweight Champion John Riel "Quadro Alas" Casimero (20-2, 13 KOs), for his sensational second-round KO over Mexico's Armando "Cobra" Santos (14-4-1, 8 KOs) in an IBF flyweight world title elimination bout. LOS ANGELES, August 7 - The biggest boxing event of 2013 is a little over a month away and with anticipation rising, FOX Deportes will do their part to get fight fans ready for "THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo" with three hours of "Golden Boy Classics" on Saturday, August 10 beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

First up is the 2010 battle between former World Champion Zab Judah and WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse.  Then at 10:00 p.m., Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia challenges the legendary Erik Morales for his first World Championship in 2012 and in the main event at 11:00 p.m., Floyd "Money" Mayweather meets former World Champion Miguel Cotto in their epic May 2012 clash.

Dominant against anyone and everyone put in front of him for years, Floyd Mayweather's boxing dominance was internationally recognized.  But on May 5, 2012, "Money" gave the fans an even more impressive show as he stood and traded with hard-hitting Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto, pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision that proved Mayweather's ability to do it all in the ring once again.

Despite his success on the way up the 140-pound ladder, no one outside of his team knew how Danny Garcia would react to facing a legend like Erik Morales in Houston, Texas on March 24, 2012.  But in his first world title fight, Philadelphia's Garcia rose to the occasion, dropping Morales in the 11^th round en route to a 12-round decision win that earned him the WBC 140-pound crown.

Two Division World Champion Zab Judah had to walk through fire when he faced off with Lucas Matthysse at New Jersey's Prudential Center on November 6, 2010.   Judah rose from the canvas in the 10^th round against his then-unbeaten foe to pound out a 12-round split decision.  Many left the arena that night believing Matthysse was the victor, but the Argentinean banger would get his shot at glory soon enough.

Two-and-a-half years ago, also at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Shumenov captured the WBA World Title in just his 10th professional bout with a 12-round unanimous decision victory over former World Champion Gabriel Campillo.  The win established a new record for a fighter winning a major light heavyweight world championship in the fewest professional fights.  Shumenov was scheduled for a unification fight on Jan. 8, 2011 against World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Champion Juergen Braehmer in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, but Braehner pulled out of the fight just a few days prior to the scheduled event.  To avoid cancelling the show in the capital city of his native country, Shumenov fought former World Champion William Joppy, who was slated to face another fighter on the same card. Since capturing his WBA World title belt, Shumenov has successfully defended against undefeated, mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Uzelkov (DEC 12), Joppy (KO 6) and most recently Danny Santiago (TKO 9) this past July.  The 28-year-old Shumenov has defeated four world champions - Campillo, Byron Mitchell, Joppy and Montell Griffin - as well as former world title challengers Epifanio Mendoza, Uzelkov and Santiago in only 13 professional bouts. "My goal has always been and remains to fight the best and unify the world light heavyweight title." "All fighters dream of fighting in the boxing capital of the world, Las Vegas," Shumenov remarked.  "I'd love to fight again in Kazakhstan and intend to do that again someday, but Las Vegas is a perfect, neutral site." Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin, who serves as Shumenov's advisor, has been frustrated by biased media reports about major fights for Shumenov.   "I had discussions with representatives for a title fight with (Jean) Pascal and unification with (Nathan) Cleverly," Chargin explained. "They wanted to fight in Canada and England, but we preferred Las Vegas or Kazakhstan.  Beibut's the world champion and I didn't believe those options to fight in Canada or England were in his best interest.  Discussions never got any further because neither of them were really serious about fighting us. Meanwhile, time had passed.  Beibut's layoff was no fault of his own; he wanted to fight all along and patiently waited. Making either of those fights, though, was out of his control.  If things go right June 2, we'll try again to make a unification fight."
