RESULTS: FDNY vs. London Metro Police Dept.

On Friday April 12th 2013 The New York City Fire Department took on the London Metro Police Department at the Resorts World Casino In Jamaica, Queens New York.

In the first bout of the evening the FDNY was represented by Chrissy Eisenzapf. Chrissy was matched up against London's Sharon Christiansen. The Ladies fought 4 rounds in the featherweight class. The evenly matched girls had many good exchanges with Sharon edging out the decision. London would be the first to put one up in the win column.

The second match of the night in the middleweight division saw Fireman Pete Utschig of Ladder Company 7 against London Police Officer Chris Down. Both fighters came out of their corners looking to win the fight with hard punches. The first round ended evenly each giving as good as they received. The second round started the same, But a minute into the round Pete Utschig landed a heavy right hand dropping his opponent. In the fall Chris injured his ankle and was unable to continue. Pete wins his first fight by second round TKO. The FDNY evens the score a win a piece.

Thomas Kehoe would try to make it 2 in a row for the FDNY. Metro Police would have their top fighter Pete Scottow in to try and put England in the lead. This Super Heavy Weight match, pitted the aggressive forward moving Kehoe against tall classical boxer Scottow. After 3 rounds of back and forth action, Thomas Kehoe put the FDNY in the lead, 2-1.

FDNY team veteran Jack Kirrane of Ladder 30 battled Police Officer John Butler in the Light Heavyweight Division. Fireman Kirrane was able to keep the FDNY team ahead with his ring generalship and quick combinations. Officer Butler gave a good account of himself but was outworked by the busier Kirrane. FDNY 3 wins London Metro PD 1.

The FDNY would put Anna Lassiter in next to keep the winning streak going. Anna would box English Southpaw Charlotte Gil at Lightweight. Charlotte was a tough boxer with sharp punches. Anna kept Charlotte missing and off balance with her head movement. Anna would win the fight giving the FDNY a 4-1 lead.

Team Captain Todd Velten of Ladder 7 would rematch London Police Officer James Spencer in the welterweight division. The pugilists met last summer in England with Velten winning. Fireman Velten started the fight with crisp punches, and looked like he was on his way to another FDNY victory. In the 3rd and final round though, Spencer would launch a spirited comeback. To the surprise of many in the audience Officer Spencer was awarded the decision. London Metro Police get them selves back in the game 4
wins to 2.

New member to the FDNY team Hugh Barr of 31truck would do battle with Officer Ishan Joshi in 7th match. Hugh in his first fight for the team found himself in a tough Middleweight match. Hugh fought tough till the last bell, but Joshi managed to out work Hugh for the win. London Creeps closer to FDNY 4-3.

Heavyweight Tom Balukas of Engine 284, would try to keep England from tying it up against Officer Daryl Jones. In this back and forth War, Tom showed he was ready to give the FDNY everything he had. This match would go to the judges decision, Daryl managed to get the decision from Tom in a terrific fight. London is now tied with NY 4 with wins each.

Unable to write a better script, it would come down to the last fight. The last match would see the most experienced fighters matched in the welterweight class. Representing the FDNY was Roland Ortiz. England had Tbz Teferi. Both fighters came out with lighting fast combinations showing to the crowd they were open class boxers. Roland proved to be the more experienced of the two and the referee stopped the contest, awarding Roland the TKO win, giving the FDNY a 5-4 victory.
