JORGE "MACHITO" MAYSONET JR. PUERTO RICO'S NEXT KNOCKOUT ARTIST HAS EMERGED

  

(PUERTO RICO) March 4, 2013 - Puerto Rican knockout artist, light welterweight Jorge Maysonet Jr., is earning a reputation for being one of boxing's most dangerous punchers.  The heavy handed purists is a former member of Puerto Rico's National team, but he is making a name for himself in the pro ranks with the destructive nature he demonstrates on his opponents.  Maysonet Jr. is undefeated with 10 knockouts in his 11 wins, and of those 10 KO's, 9 of them have come in the 1st round.  Maysonet Jr. is trained by his father, Jorge Maysonet Sr. and the two have drawn some unique similarities with one another. 

Maysonet Sr., a former Olympian, had 22 professional wins with as many knockouts.  He possessed the kind of devastating power that sent chills down the back of his opponents and he maintained his 100% KO rate until he retired.  Maysonet Jr. is following in his father's footsteps to a certain degree and the unique symmetry between the two as it relates to power is not a coincidence.

"I don't practice knocking people out, but the knockouts keep coming.  It comes natural to me, maybe because of my father or maybe because I'm good at taking advantage of the moment.  There is no secret to my success in the ring, I just want to finish more than the other guy," Maysonet Jr. explained.

Maysonet Sr. is proud that his son is becoming such a force in the ring and he feels that Jr. has not reached his peak yet and, as scary as it sounds, could be getting even stronger.

"My son is passionate about what he does, he's a master at seizing the moment.  Jorge is strong, but he will get better by polishing his skills and that will lead to an increase in power.  He's a real threat in the ring right now, imagine how much more power he'll possess a year from now," Maysonet Sr. said.

There are many prospects in boxing that have come along with gaudy KO ratings, but most were successful by circumstance.  Maysonet Jr. is a real power house and only boxing guys with years under their belt can tell the difference, guys like his global promoter Gary Shaw.

"I've been in this business and I've seen these guys that think they can hit, guys hyped by their record. The difference between Jorge Jr. and the rest is he knows how to hurt people on both physical and technical levels.  He's got real power, good old fashioned power.  When you watch him in the ring you get a sense of the old school combined with the new, it truly is a special thing to witness," Shaw said.

"Before I became a promoter I was on the New Jersey boxing commission and was at ringside for some of Maysonet Senior's fights, and now years later I'm promoting his son. These two are one of the best father-son / trainer-son duos in boxing.  We are all excited about their future.

Maysonet Jr. is flying under the radar in Puerto Rico, in the shadows of Jonathan Gonzalez (16-0-1, 13 KOs), Thomas Dulorme (17-1, 13 KOs) and Jose Pedraza (12-0, 8 KOs) to name a few.  The young phenom is on a quest to make a name for himself and prove to the world he is the best fighter to come from the island since Tito Trinidad, another knockout artist.

JORGE "MACHITO" MAYSONET JR. CONTINUES TO IMPRESS WITH KO VICTORY

FEBRUARY 25, 2013 - Cataño, Puerto Rico - Jorge "Machito" Maysonet ( 11-0, 10 KO' ) managed to become the first boxer to knock out experienced fellow Puerto Rican, Pedro Salcedo (3-6, 2 KO's) in a fight held at the Cosme Beitía Salamo Coliseum.

"This is my first knockout victory in the second round,  before that, all my knockouts have come in the first, and it was because I hurt my right elbow little bit, so I could not keep landing solid shots like I wanted to.  I recovered in the second round, and quickly landed good rights to the body to end the fight" said Maysonet, who is promoted by Warriors Boxing, Universal Promotions, and Gary Shaw Productions.

A couple of years ago, Salcedo defeated the undefeated Juan Herrera of Naguabo,PR and was in competitive fights in a losing effort against José Pedraza (12-0, 8 KO's) and Emmanuel Gonzalez (11-0, 7 KO's).

Last October in Guayama, PR Maysonet scored the biggest win of his career when stopped the rough and rugged Ramesis Gil by want of a first round knockout, who had huge victories ovr Carney Bowman (16-1, 7 KO's) of Philadelphia and Luis Joel González (9-1-1, 5 KO's) from Bayamón, PR bayamonés. Both wins were by decision.

The undefeated 135-pound explosive fighter is trained by his father, Jorge Maysonet Sr., who represented Puerto Rico in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles ( 1984 ), and as a  professional boxer, scored all his victories (22) by way of knockout and was a world title contender.

May 11, 2012 -   Promoted by Universal Promotions, Gary Shaw Productions and Warriors Boxing Promotions, Team Puerto Rico member Jorge "Machito" Maysonet ( 7-0, 6KO's - 135lbs ) demolished Gabriel Díaz ( 5-7, 1KO ) in one round.  After Díaz was dropped three times, the referee stopped the fight at the 1:26 mark.  A double right to the body and head sent Díaz's to the canvas first.  The second knockdown was with a left hook to the body and the third one was with a solid right hand to Díaz's face.

"It was a good result because I train to pressure my opponent using all kinds of combinations, and it ended in the first round but I will watch the fight again to correct my mistakes and improve more in every fight" said Jorge Maysonet.

In a war at the super lightweight division ( 140lbs ), underdog Samuel "Sammito" Santana ( 5-6, 1KO's ) defeated Joshua "el macho" Santiago ( 7-1, 6KO's ) by split decision.

The fight started strong for Santana but Santiago could handle the pressure using his jab. Surprisingly In the second round, Santana scored a knockdown that was a key factor in his victory. The remaining 4 rounds were very competitive were both have their moments. Both fighters were bleeding in the right eye. The fans in attendance were on his feet in the fight.

The judges scored 57-56, 57-56 for Santana and 57-56 for Santiago.

"At round two I didn't get hit by Santana, it was a slip and it was called a knockdown and I knock him ( Santana ) in the fourth and was called a slip but I have to accept defeat and move foward" said Joshua Santiago.

"I told everybody that Joshua's pro debut was tonight and I welcome him. Also my training went great" said Samuel Santana.

Also cruserweight Keith Tapia ( 5-0, 4KO's ) defeated always tough, Juan Carlos Robles ( 12-5-1, 5KO's ) from Virginia by unanimous decision. The scores were 60-54, 59-55 and 59-55.

"I feel great fighting on the distance and because of my opponent's strength I fought smart and sweet. Happy Mother's Day to all" said Tapia.

Superfeatherweight Miguel "el Gallo" Marrero ( 4-0, 2KO's ) defeated Angel López ( 2-11, 2KO's ) by TKO in the second round. The time of the stoppage was 2:47.

"I think I looked great. My opponent once he felt my power started running and his corner stopped the fight because I was giving him a beating" says Marrero.

Opening the telecast, Luis Rivera ( 1-2 ) scored a majority decision over José Torres ( 0-3 ). The scores were 39-37, 39-37 and 38-38 The fight was in the bantamweight division. 

Debutant Víctor Galindo ( 1-0, 1KO's - 135lbd ) scored a knockdown victory in the first round over Alberto González. The time was 2:21.

"Noche de Futuros Campeones" card was presented by Universal Promotions and televised by Puerto Rico Sports Network ( 3.1 - 6.2 ) and PRTV channel 6.

Universal Promotions announced his upcoming fight card to be held on Friday, June 15 at the Mario Quijote "Moráles" Coliseum in Guaynabo, PR. In action will be José "Sniper" Pedraza, Miguel "el gallo" Marrero, Joel "Joelo" Torres, Roberto Acevedo and more.
