Snooki-backed Patrick Hyland Plans to continue making Irish Boxing history Dec. 8 vs. Javier Fortuna in World title fight

LAS VEGAS (November 29, 2012) - Irish and boxing have been synonymous for more than a century. Undefeated featherweight Patrick "The Punisher" Hyland, one of three prizefighting Hyland brothers, certainly embodies the popular sobriquet, "The Fightin' Irish."

Dublin-native Hyland (27-0, 12 KOs) plans to continue making Irish boxing history on December 8, when he fights fellow undefeated challenger Javier "El Abejon" Fortuna for the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight title, fighting on the HBO Pay-Per-View event headlined by Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marguez 4, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 29-year-old Hyland, who is promoted by Final Round Promotions and Team Snooki Boxing, made a major commitment to boxing a year ago, moving from Ireland to Marlboro, New York in order to be trained by two-time two-division world championTracy Harris Patterson. Rated No. 6 by the WBA, Hyland already holds the Republic of Ireland boxing record for most consecutive wins to start a professional career (27), and he'll become the first Ireland-born world featherweight champion with a win Dec. 8.

Hyland would become the first Irishman to capture a world title since Bernard Dunne(WBA super bantamweight) in 2009, also joining Dunne and Stevie Collins as the only Dubliners as world champions. In fact, Hyland would be only the seventh Irishman (Ireland national born), dating back to the late 1800's, in an exclusive group that also includes George Gardner, Mike McTigue and Hall of Famers Barry McGuigan and Jack McAuliffe.

"I've had tunnel vision for this fight and didn't know I could become the first world featherweight champion born in Ireland," Hyland said. "It feels great to hear that as well as have a chance to be mentioned in the same class with those other Irish world boxing champions."

WBA No. 2-rated Fortuna (20-0, 15 KOs), fighting out of the Dominican Republic, is a 23-year-old southpaw. "Fortuna is an explosive fighter and it's a pleasure to share the ring with him," always the gentleman Hyland noted. "He's a lefty, which is a problem for most right-handed fighters, but we've trained hard to move to the left. I have to stay sharp and focused, especially the first few rounds, so he doesn't catch me. Our plan is to take him into deep water and see what he has left."

Hyland will be fighting in Las Vegas for the first time. He doesn't plan on hitting the strip, at least not on this particular trip, and everything there has been all business for the personable boxer with a thick brogue.

"It's hard to describe," Hyland spoke about fighting on the HBO PPV in Las Vegas. "Manny Pacquaio is the best known boxer in the world and fighting on his undercard hasn't really sunk in, yet, and it probably won't until after the fight It has gone through my mind but it's all been positive We have two unbeaten fighters who both want to win and get that belt. We'll put on a show, fighting on the biggest stage (HBO PPV in Las Vegas), and we could steal the show."

One of Hyland's promoters, Mike Pascale (Final Round Promotions), believes that it's Hyland's time to shine. "This fight is the culmination of Patrick's training as a boxer since the age of seven. As always, he has trained hard and will lay it all on the line on December 8th. The Hyland-Fortuna fight will be a real barnburner. Patrick will shock many when his arm is raised as the winner. This is Patrick Hyland's time and he will not be denied."

Undefeated Irish featherweight Patrick Hyland's Incredible journey continues towards world title shot

Final Round logo  Team Snooki logo

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (August 20, 2012) - The incredible boxing journey for undefeated featherweight prospect Patrick "The Punisher" Hyland (27-0, 12 KOs)continues after his recent victory by eight-round unanimous decision (79-70, 79-71, 79-71) overdangerous Dominican Carlos "El Flaco" Fulgencio (19-8-1, 12 KOs) at Sahlen Stadium in Rochester, New York.

"I enjoyed the fight and was sharp," Dublin-native Hyland said about his fight with Fulgencio. "I dropped him at the end of the first and caught him again in the second. I didn't want to punch myself out, so I eased up and boxed the rest of the fight. My previous fight only lasted four rounds and I needed the rounds. He came to beat me and kept coming forward. We went toe-to-toe and he caught me with a few shots. He tested my chin. I'll be back in the gym later this week and want to be fighting again by the beginning of November, hopefully, in a 10 or 12 round fight."

Hyland has been following his dream to become world champion that developed when he was an amateur in Dublin. He and his brothers, middleweight Edward 16-2, 6 KOs) and super bantamweight Paul (21-2, 6 KOs), moved to Essex, England at the beginning of Patrick's pro career. The Hylands didn't get the opportunities there that they expected and 1 ½ years later they were released from their promotional contracts. With their father Patrick, Sr. as head trainer, like he was in the amateurs, the fighting Hyland brothers crossed the Atlantic Ocean to fight a few times in the United States. They went back and forth between Ireland and America until they hooked up with Final Round Promotions/Team Snooki Boxing, which includes television reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, for a fight this past January in Atlantic City.

Patrick made a decision to move alone to the U.S., not to cities like New York City or Boston like some of his Irish prizefighting predecessors, but to Marlboro, New York in Hudson Valley. Hyland has been working with two-time world champion Tracy Harris Patterson, son of former world heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson, and Patrick's father works his corner as an assistant coach.

"We tested the US market and I enjoyed it here with higher-caliber fighters," Hyland explained. "I jumped at the offer to come here to fight. Now, I'm used to living in America. I had to get use to driving on the opposite side of the road. I never saw woodchucks or coyotes before, but I've accustomed to living here, and I'm enjoying myself."

The 28-year-old Hyland is the World Boxing Federation ("WBF") featherweight champion. He is rated No. 4 by the North American Boxing Organization ("NABO") and United States Boxing Association (USBA), as well as No. 5 by the North American Boxing Federation (NABF).

With 27 consecutive victories to start his professional career, Hyland already holds that record for a Republic of Ireland fighter (the All-Ireland record of 30 is held by little known Northern Ireland fighter Billy Adamson, 1950-52).

Few active boxers have longer winning streaks (not unbeaten with draws) to start their professional careers than Hyland, including 43-0, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.; 36-0,David Rodriguez; 33-0, Mike Alvarado; 32-0, Vanes Martirosyan, Roman Gonzalez; 31, Denis Boytsov; 30, Ajose Olusegun; 29, Timothy Bradley; 28,Kell Brock, Mickey Garcia.

"Patrick has proven his dedication to winning a world championship by moving without his family halfway around the world," Final Round Promotions/Team Snooki Boxing Vice President Mike Pascale added. "That took a lot of guts. We're committed to doing everything in our power to help position him to reach his dream"

Hyland is proud of Team Ireland's recent performance at the Olympic Games, as he prepares for a regional title fight and, if everything goes according to plan, a world title shot in 2014.

"They were fantastic," Hyland spoke about the Irish Olympic boxers. "I'm so proud of them. Our superstar, Katie Taylor, I know and she's the best in the world.

"I want to keep fighting often because that's where you learn. I listen to my team and fight anybody they put in the ring with me. If I had a choice, I'd like to fight (IBF featherweight champion) Billy Dib (35-1, 21 KOs). He beat me in Australia when we were amateurs, so there's a history between us. He's world champion and I'd like a crack at him."

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 15, 2012) -- Undefeated Irish super featherweight Patrick"The Punisher" Hyland improved his record to a perfect 26-0, registering his 12thknockout when the action was halted by the referee Benji Estevez in the fourth round as veteran Frankie Archuleta (27-10-1, 14 KOs) was being pounded in tonight's main event, headlining "Irish Invasion," at Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.

"Irish Invasion" was presented by Final Round Promotions, in association with Team Snooki Boxing and Bob Duffy's Ring Promotions, and sponsored in part by Title Boxing.

Hyland came out throwing crippling body shots, taking complete control from the opening bell. He dropped Archuleta  in the first and third rounds, peppering Artchuleta with stiff jabs, solid combinations and devastating body blows.

"It was a good fight but I could have done a little better," Hyland said after the fight.  "He's a tough guy who hit me with a couple of good shots.  I got him with some good shots in the fourth when it was stopped.   I'm a contender, 26-0, and fighting here in the United States. I'm ready for anybody at 126 pounds."

Arkansas invader Josh Williams (6-4, 4 KOs) upset previously unbeaten Bryant "The Spartan" Pappas (13-1-1, 13 KOs), winning a six-round decision in an entertaining match. Former USA Mid-American middleweight champion Pappas, a sergeant in the Yonkers Police Department, is a cancer survivor who donated his purse to cancer research.

Poughkeepsie super featherweight Chazz McDowell (6-1, 1 KOs) won a six-round majority decision from Cuban-born Yuniel Ramos.  Canadian light welterweight Natasha "The Nightmare" Spencer (4-0-1, 2 KOs) tangles with Racquel Bailey (1-2-1) in a six-round female match.  New York City light middleweight Valdrin Muriqi (3-1) won a unanimous four-round decision over a game Philip Burnette (2-4, 1 KOs),

Team Snooki Boxing was donating $1.00 from each sold ticket to Rolling Thunder, Chapter III New York to support needy U.S. military veterans.
