ROMAN MORALES VICTORIOUS AT CHUMASH CASINO

Results from Santa Ynez, California

SANTA YNEZ, CA (June 14, 2013) - Tonight Gary Shaw Productions presented another great night of boxing at the Chumash Casino Resort.  In the main event, Roman Morales (17-0, 10 KOs) defeated Robert Castaneda (20-4-1, 15 KOs) by way of unanimous decision to retain his "Central Coast Championship".

In the early rounds Morales was using his superior boxing skills to get in position to land his shots.  Castaneda was confused as Morales was switching stances throughout the fight.  Morales dropped Castaneda in round five and everything was going his way.  Things changed in round seven when Morales got caught with a left hook to the head. Morales gained his composure, but Castaneda gained confidence going into the final rounds.   But Morales got back in control and finished off the fight landing hard blows to the head and body.   Scorecards read 97-91 across the board for Morales.

"I felt I could have finished the fight in the early rounds but I couldn't get him out of there," said Morales. "Castaneda fought very tough and I take my hat off to him for continuing to fight after I dropped him.  I got caught with a punch I didn't see coming but I got back on my feet and finished the fight throwing hard punches.   This was a great learning experience and I'll be back in the gym to work on my craft.  I want to thank Gary Shaw for giving me another opportunity to showcase my skills.  I'll be ready when they call my name."

(8-round Featherweight bout) - Edwin Solis and Gabriel Tolmajyan engaged in a classic southpaw vs. conventional matchup.  Tolmajyan was countering the attack of an aggressive Solis.  Tolmajyan was landing pot shots as Solis was doing his best to land an overhand right.  Both fighters entered the final rounds neck and neck and it seemed that Tolmajyan was winning the bout, but the judges saw it different as the bout was declared a majority draw.  Scorecards read 76-76 twice and for 77-75 Tolmajyan.  Gabriel Tolmajyan (13-3-2, 3 KOs) majority draw vs. Edwin Solis (5-2-2, 3 KOs)

Rustam Nugaev and Gabriel Tolmajyan Victorious on ESPN Friday Night Fights

April 5, 2013- Gary Shaw Productions wrapped up its lightweight featured card on ESPN 2 Friday Night Fights earlier this evening and it ultimately produced a couple of winners that could be well on their way to making an impact in the lightweight division.

In the card's feature matchup, fans were treated to a spirited contest between two willfully determined fighters in Jonathan Maicelo and Rustam Nugaev. Both fighters had to dig deep in the fight and unleashed bombs upon one another. Maicelo was moving well early on and his punches were delivered with bad intentions. However, Nugaev kept a relentless pace and pressured Maicelo in a very effective manner.

It was clear that Maicelo was the more gifted athlete, but Nugaev landed the cleaner punches and in the 6th round he started putting his punches together better. In the 8th, Maicelo found himself on the receiving end of a well-timed right hand that Nugaev was able to turn over perfectly. The shot sent Maicelo to the canvas and although it was a devastating shot he still made an attempt to get up off the mat, but it was to no prevail as referee Jack Reiss had already called a halt to the bout, giving Nugaev the 8th round KO.

In the evening's co-feature, resourceful Armenian southpaw Gabriel Tolmajyan was able to capitalize off of his experience while sustaining an effective game plan against Puerto Rican Jorge Maysonet Jr. Tolmajyan was able to utilize his game plan in a way that made it difficult for Maysonet Jr. to initiate his. Maysonet Jr. was swinging wildly at times and seemed to be less polished, which Tolmajyan took full advantage of and displayed a lot of good skillsets.

Still, Maysonet Jr. displayed some raw, natural talent and his physical framework alone is enough to stay optimistic on his ability to rebound. Tolmajyan's stock should rise after this win and he was hopeful of receiving another opportunity soon.

"I performed well-enough to get the win, but I know I can bring much more to the table. The kid (Maysonet Jr.) is talented and he was awkward to fight with his long body. I think I did a good job finding a way around his natural advantages, he gained some good experience in the ring and he'll come back stronger. I'm ready for my next fight, I want to get right back in there and I felt good out there right now. Even though I have it in me to produce more than I showed tonight my confidence is where it should be and I just want to ride this momentum," Tolmajyan said.

Gary Shaw was delighted to see the fireworks produced by the 2 combatants in the main event, but he wasn't surprised and he knows that fans appreciate unfiltered action.

"It was a tough fight for Maicelo and we know that coming in; this fight was supposed to be a step up and we matched these guys based on the fact that we knew they'd create fireworks. It was a good fight and I'm sure that it was exciting for both the live and TV audience.  Tonight the fans got two see some great fights," Shaw said.

JORGE "MACHITO" MAYSONET JR. TO CO-FEATURE ESPN "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS" ON APRIL 5TH CARD AT THE CHUMASH CASINO

March 19, 2013 - It has been officially announced that undefeated Puerto Rican knockout specialist Jorge Maysonet Jr. (11-0, 10 KOs) will take on 26 year old southpaw Gabriel Tolmajyan (13-2-1, 3KOs) in the televised co-feature of ESPN's Friday Night Fights on April 5th, featuring Marvin Quintero (25-4, 21 KOs) vs. Ammeth Diaz (31-11, 22 KOs) in an IBF lightweight title elimination bout scheduled for 12 rounds.  The fight will take place at the Chumash Casinoin Santa Ynez, California.

The show will air live at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on ESPN2, and will be available online through WatchESPN.com and on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app.  The card will also air live on ESPN Deportes +, the new digital extension of ESPN Deportes, and will air tape delayed on ESPN Deportes Saturday, April 6, at 2 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Both fighters will enter the fight looking to make a statement in front of a national TV audience, but the spotlight shouldn't bother Maysonet Jr. too much due in part to the time he spent on Puerto Rico's National Team.  Also, Maysonet Jr. comes from a boxing family and grew up watching his father/trainer Jorge Maysonet Sr., a former Olympian who possessed a perfect knockout rating as a professional with 22KO/TKOs in 22 bouts.

Maysonet Jr. is earning a reputation for being a savage puncher as well, winning 10 of his 11 pro victories by way of KO/TKO.  It's unique to see a father and son share such a distinct attribute, but Jr. is out to separate himself and make his own name in boxing.

"I'm my father's son, yes, that's true, but I'm my own man and I want to go even further than my father. I love him being in my corner because it's reassuring, but he is honest with me and I'm able to work off of the blueprint he created.  This April 5th fight will be a good opportunity for me to show some distinction and have a new generation of fans get familiar with me," Maysonet Jr. said.

His father has trained him since he was a child and helped Jr. develop a style of his own.  Although the power may be genetics, the skill is wisdom handed down from a lifetime served in the ring and Jorge Sr. is adamant his son's talents beyond the power.

"He's a dangerous puncher, but he's more than that. Jorge Jr. has a very fan friendly style and we think it will come across very well on TV. My son can move, box, defend, and sharp shoot; he can fight on the inside and the outside. He's anxious to prove himself," Maysonet Sr. said.

Gary Shaw is also excited about Maysonet Jr. appearing on ESPN and having his fight broadcasted as the co-feature.

"This kid is going to reinstate hope for all the old school guys that think true power is lost; Jorge Jr. is a true powerhouse in the ring. Some guys pack a strong punch, but let Jorge touch you with one of his bombs and you'll be seeing stars for weeks.  I know that this performance is all it will take for the US fans to take notice because he is a fun fighter and ESPN will gladly have him back.  Once again I want to thank Doug Loughrey of ESPN for giving us the opportunity," Shaw said.

Maysonet Jr. is a member of "Team Puerto Rico", a collaboration between Warriors Boxing, Gary Shaw Productions and Universal Promotions. Their goal is to gather Puerto Rico's best boxing talent.
