JOSE PEDRAZA: "I'm ready to fight Rances Barthelemy and bring home the title"

PUERTO RICO (November 20, 2014) - After his dominating performance against Philippine contender Michael Farenas (39-5-4, 31 KOs), Puerto Rican star and IBO super-featherweight champion, Jose "Sniper" Pedraza (19-0, 12 KOs), is elated that he's become the mandatory challenger to face IBF champion Rances Barthelemy (21-0, 12 KOs).

"I'm very excited about my future and I'm very thankful to my promoters Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella and Javier Bustillo for getting me the fights I needed to become the mandatory challenger to fight for the IBF title." said Pedraza. "I've been getting a lot of support from my people here in Puerto Rico and it feels great to be loved by them.  I've already started training as I'm eager to get back in the ring.  I'm ready to fight Rances Barthelemy and bring home the IBF title."

Promoter Gary Shaw was amazed on how well Pedraza picked apart Farenas in their bout.  He feels Pedraza soared from a fighter on the rise to one of the best fighters in the 130lbs division.

"Pedraza was absolutely outstanding in his fight with Farenas," said Gary Shaw. "He looked fantastic.  He has the rare ability to make adjustments in the ring against any style.  He proved he can hang with the big boys.  Farenas is a big puncher and Pedraza negated everything he brought to the table.  Pedraza graduated from top prospect, to world title contender in one terrific performance.  I believe he is the top 130 pounder in the world, and come early 2015 will prove it when he fights for the world title."

Pedraza is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, DiBella Entertainment and Universal Promotions.

DARLEYS PEREZ CAPTURES WBA INTERIM LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (June 28, 2014) - Tonight in Dominican Republic, Gary Shaw Productions' and Thompson Boxing Promotions',  Darleys Perez (30-1, 19 KOs), captured the WBA Interim Title with a hard fought victory against Argenis Lopez (19-1, 7 KOs), who was fighting in his home country.

From the opening bell, Perez was the busier fighter as he threw more punches and landed the cleaner shots.  Lopez never really got into a rhythm and Perez took advantage of the situation by outworking him throughout the fight.  Neither fighter was seriously hurt.  Scorecards read 116-112 and 117-111 twice, all in favor for Perez.

With the win, Perez cements himself as a serious player in the lightweight division.  Many fights can be made with Perez challenging any of the world champions at 135lbs.  Promoter Gary Shaw feels Perez is on his way to a big time fight.

"This is a very big win for us," said Gary Shaw. "Thompson Boxing and GSP are very thrilled to have another world champion to promote.  There are some big fights that can be made so we'll get working on some great opportunities for Perez.  For Perez to win a decision in Lopez's hometown is amazing.  He really earned this victory with tremendous heart and grandeur."

"I knew I had to give it my all to come out here and earn a decision," said Perez. "I felt I was in control of the fight from the very beginning.  I never let up and kept coming strong with controlled pressure.  I know my promoters, Gary Shaw and Thompson Boxing have some big plans for my future, so I'm going to just enjoy this win and get back to work when I get home.  I'm happy to bring this title home to Colombia.

DARLEYS PEREZ FIGHTS FOR LIGHTWEIGHT WBA INTERIM TITLE THIS SATURDAY IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

June 25, 2014 - Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions lightweight contender, Darleys Perez (29-1, 19 KOs) will fight for the interim WBA World title against Argenis Lopez (19-0, 7 KOs) at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, this Saturday June 28, 2014.

After suffering his first lost to Yuriorkis Gamboa over a year ago, Perez returned to the win column with a convincing victory against Dunis Linan back in December of 2013.  Perez who is ranked WBA #5 looks to position himself for a title shot with a victory against Lopez is rated WBA #4.

"I've had plenty of time to reflect on my defeat to Gamboa," said Perez. "I've came back with a win against Linan and my confidence is where it needs to be moving forward.  Lopez is coming to fight as am I, so I'm expecting to face a fighter who is determined to take food off my table.  I'm not going to let it happen.  I've worked too hard get back in this position and Lopez better be ready to die in the ring because I am."

"I've only fought once in the last twelve months but I've been training hard while I was on down time," Perez continued. "I'm healthy, in great shape, and I'm ready to go the distance if need be.  I'm going to Lopez's hometown so I'll be gunning for the knockout as I don't want to leave any doubt in the judges' minds."

"Darleys has a great opportunity to put himself in a great position to fight for another world title," said Gary Shaw. "If he comes out victorious, which I believe he will, then I'll be working to get him a title shot against the champion, Richard Abril.  Right now he must focus on Lopez and bring home the victory."

GARY SHAW On Dulorme, Golovkin-Geale, Jennings, More

By Ben Jacobs - BoxingScene.com

Gary Shaw may have had some setbacks over the years but he is working as hard as ever and he currently has a number of fighters who are in significant bouts over the next couple of months.   In addition, Shaw promotes some young talent who may not be far off challenging for big honours themselves.

The New Jersey based promoter took some time to speak to BoxingScene about the likes of Bryant Jennings and Daniel Geale who face Mike Pérez and Gennady Golovin respectively on July 26.  He also discusses future plans for Thomas Dulorme and José Pedraza, among others.

BoxingScene.com: How pleased are you with Thomas Dulorme's progress since he lost to Luis Carlos Abregú?

Obviously in the fight that he lost I would have wished that the trainer had not stopped the fight, I think it would have brought out a lot more in Dulorme.  Since then he's recovered, he had a great win over [Karim] Mayfield on HBO and I'm looking to get him into another big fight.

BoxingScene.com:  Is it true that Ruslan Provodnikov's team turned down a fight with Dulorme?

Yes, it is true.  Rather than fight Chris Algieri, HBO said they'd like to see Dulorme and Provodnikov, and they turned down the fight, they said no.  They chose Algieri which in retrospect was not a good choice.   I don't think Dulorme will fight for world title this year but I'd like to get him another big fight and fight for a world title in 2015.

BoxingScene.com: You also promote his countryman, José Pedraza, could you talk about his progression.

I believe José Pedraza, I'm not comparing him with Trinidad and Cotto, they're at this point in a different class, but of the young guys I believe he's the best on the island.  They're making a big deal out of [Felix] Verdejo, believe me, Verdejo will never fight Pedraza.  Pedraza's a much better fighter, he's had better fights under his belt.  Verdejo is still fighting stiffs.  Pedraza is very good.  He holds the IBO title, he's moving up in the rankings and you'll see a lot more of him in 2015.

BoxingScene.com: Has Gennady Golovkin been overhyped at all and is Daniel Geale his toughest test?  Continue Reading...

PUERTO RICO (June 12, 2014) - Gary Shaw Productions welterweight contender, Puerto Rican star, Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KO), left this morning from Puerto Rico to Oxnard, California, to officially began his training camp under the tutelage of renowned trainer, Robert Garcia.

In his last bout, Dulorme captured the NABF Junior Welterweight title, when defeated former undefeated Californian, Karim Mayfield (18-1-1, 11 KOs), by unanimous decision in a HBO live televised bout on March, 29 2014.

"After beating Mayfield, I rested a little bit, but quickly started running while doing some light training" Dulorme said. "We have several alternatives on the table, and one of those is a possible fight in Puerto Rico in August.  I'm taking my career serious that is why I'm heading out to California early.  I'm looking forward to reuniting with Robert Garcia in Oxnard to start training."

"Since moving down from 147 Dulorme has proven he's a force at 140 lbs." said promoter Gary Shaw. "That fact that he's heading out early to Oxnard to train with Robert Garcia tells me he's on a mission to take over the division.  I'm looking to get him in the ring by the end of the summer.  His future is bright and the people of Puerto Rico will get to see him in action very soon."

Currently at 140 pounds, Dulorme is ranked #2 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), #3 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), #4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), and #8 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
