Richard Pierson To Battle Farah Ennis July 27 On ESPN's Friday Night Fights

On Friday, July 27, rising super middleweight Richard Pierson will step between the ropes and go to battle with Farah Ennis on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights at Resorts Hotel Casino in Atlantic City.

Paterson native Pierson (11-2, 8 KO) was supposed to fight a few weeks ago for the WBC FECARBOX Super Middleweight Title, but never had a chance to enter the squared circle and fight for the belt as three different opponents fell through.

Through his career Pierson has dealt with his share of fights falling through, but the 31-year-old pugilist has stayed diligent in his training and is anxious to get into the ring on the 27 and show the world who he is.

“This isn’t the first time I fought on ESPN,” said Pierson.  “It’s just the first time that I will be televised.  I have been fortunate to fight on ESPN twice in my career.  Once on Friday Night Fights and once on Wednesday Night Fights.  But it means a lot to me every time that I’m on either series.  I’m a fan of ESPN and its boxing series, and I’m grateful that they will be showing my fight on July 27.”

Known for his heavy hands and an unrelenting drive toward fighting for a world title, Pierson prides himself on never backing away from a fight.  Over the course of his fight career he has always exchanged punches with boxers with winning records.

On July 27 he may be facing the toughest test to date in Farah Ennis.  Ennis (19-1, 12 KO) has quick hands and tremendous conditioning, and won his first 17 fights before losing a majority decision last April.

“As for Ennis being the opponent, I think it is the other way around,” said Pierson.  “I don’t know anything about Ennis, the same way I didn’t know anything about the other challengers that I have faced.  All that I know is he is 19-1 and he is from Philly, and that’s a place that is known for producing tough fighters.  I know that I’m the underdog as usual going into this fight, but when am I not?  All I can do is train for the 27 and leave it in God’s hands.”

When both warriors step between the ropes at the end of the month fans can expect to see fireworks.  The power and speed of these two super middleweights will be on display for the world to see, and the winner will position himself to be in line for a potential world title fight in coming months.

The fight will be taking place on Friday, July 27 at the renowned Resorts Hotel Casino in Atlantic City.  Tickets for ESPN’s Friday Night Fight are $40, $65, $75 and $125 and can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Is Richard Pierson The Most Feared Super Middleweight Out There?

In addition to his consistency within the ring, one thing that stands out in super middleweight Richard Pierson’s career is the number of fights that continue to fall through for the rising star.

Last week Pierson was supposed to go to battle for the WBC FECARBOX Super Middleweight Title, but never had a chance to throw a punch as three opponents fell through.

First it was Gary Jones, then David Adotey Alottey, and last Aaron ‘Homicide’ Mitchell…all three planned to throw hands with Pierson, but when it came time to step up to the plate, no fighter followed through due to various reasons.

Throughout his career Pierson has faced his share of adversity inside the squared circle and having fights fall through, yet the emerging super middleweight has stayed focused and determined to work towards a world title shot.

Early on he found himself on the grand stage atop boxing’s Mecca’s in Vegas and Atlantic City, thrown into the ring as an ‘opponent’, and regularly coming out the victor.

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Pierson.  “Gary Jones has a record of 22 wins and 2 losses; he had no reason to pull out.  I believe he was coming out to challenge me but he just couldn't make the 168 pound limit.  Danil of Ghana has 18 wins, 8 by KO and 2 losses; he made it to America but sadly he suffered a very bad cut above his left eye during his last sparring session.  Aaron Mitchell is 27-1 with 21 KO and is no chump; he didn't pull out.  Something went wrong with his meds.  None of the fighters I was supposed to fight pulled out; it just wasn't in God’s plan for me to compete for the belt that night.  My future isn't made by man so I leave it all in God's hands.”

Pierson prides himself on his fast and heavy hands, and has never stepped into the ring against an opponent with a losing record, something few fighters can say.

“I stay focused with the strength of my children and the positive people that are around me.  Of course I would love to have had fought for the WBC FECARBOX Title and walked into my house with it but things happen. I am not upset nor did the cancellation of my fight affect me.  I am still happy to even have the WBC look at me and give a chance; it shows me all my hard work is starting to pay off.  I love boxing and finally boxing is starting to show me love back.  I will have the belts when it’s my time.”

“This kid cannot get a fight,” said Lou Esa, former heavyweight fighter and Pierson’s manager.  “We got guys who agree to fight him, but then they end up falling through. He’s a fierce puncher.  Four times he was named the ‘B’ opponent, and each time he knocked out the ‘A’ fighter.  Now everybody calls him ‘the career killer’.  We are trying to get an opponent now for him for July 27 on ESPN.”

JOHN LENNOX & ANTHONY “JUICE” YOUNG TO RETURN THIS WEDNESDAY IN NEWARK

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (June 12, 2012)—This Wednesday night at The Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, Heavyweight John Lennox will see action in a six round bout against Rodricka Ray while Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young will take on Christian Steele in a four round bout.

The card, which is headlined by Richard Pierson taking Aaron Mitchell in an eight round bout from the WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title, is promoted by Gabe LaConte’s First Round Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions.

Lennox of Cartet, New Jersey is riding four fight winning streak and has pushed his record to 10-1 with five knockouts.

Ray of Jackson, Tennessee has a record of 3-5-1 with one knockout.

“John is in great condition for this fight”, said Lennox & Young’s manager Rich Masini.

“John’s trainer Ray McCline has been telling me how sharp John is looking and we know that Ray is a durable guy as he has fought six undefeated guys and went the distance with Maurice Byarm so we expect a great performance on Wednesday night.”

“With a win here, we have an opportunity to compete in the WBC World Cup that is a four tiered tournament that will create a top contender for the world title but first we have to take care of business on Wednesday.”

Young of Atlantic City has been perfect as he is 4-0 with two knockouts.

“Juice is a once in a lifetime, blue chip prospect and he is born to be a champion”, said Masini.
“Not often does a manager get to manage a kid with this kind of ability that “Juice” has.”

Steele of Staunton, VA has a record of 2-3 with one knockout and is coming off a first round knockout in his last bout.

“We expect Steele to bring his best”, continued Masini.

In his last bout, Young had to come off the canvas and gut out a hard fought decision over Jose Javier Calderon on April 27th in Atlantic City.

“Anthony showed tremendous heart in his last bout as he had the adversity of being knocked down and cut.  He not only dropped Calderon in the next round but he came down the stretch and dominated the last couple rounds.  Anybody can perform in prosperous times but a true champ performs in adverse conditions.”

“John and “Juice”had a great camp and I want to thank Ray McCline and Vince Jackson for the training.”

“A lot of this wouldn’t be possible without the them or our sponsors, who have been vital in the development of these two kids.”

“I have to thank the new promotional arm of Premiere Boxing and Entertainment as well as the following Hard Energy Drink with Greg Porsella; Craig’s Plumbing and Heating; JAM Maintenance with John, and the Main Street Barber Shops and Mike.  All of these companies believe in John & 'Juice.'"
