MULPETER WITHDRAWS FROM CWFC 74

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, November 13, 2014

Tom Breese will now face 22-year-old Frenchman Thibaud Larchet (6-1) this Saturday, following the late withdrawal of Philip Mulpeter.

(London, United Kingdom | Thursday, November 13, 2014) - Philip Mulpeter (pictured) has pulled out of his welterweight bout against Tom Breese, which was scheduled to take place at Cage Warriors 74 at the Copper Box Arena in London this Saturday, November 15.

Mulpeter sustained a cut above his left eye in training on Tuesday evening, and CWFC officials were informed by e-mail of his decision to withdraw at 4:59pm GMT yesterday (Wednesday, November 12).

The incident occurred as a result of a clash of heads with a team-mate, during what Mulpeter’s camp described as “light sparring drills”.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has succeeded in securing a replacement opponent for Tom Breese, however, with 22-year-old Frenchman Thibaud Larchet (6-1) stepping in at short notice for his CWFC debut.

Larchet will fly in to London from Nice tomorrow morning, and the clash with Breese is still scheduled as a welterweight (170lbs) contest.

“Hats off to our matchmaker Ian Dean for sourcing a replacement at the last minute, and to Tom Breese for accepting the change of opponent in these circumstances,” said Cage Warriors Fighting Championship CEO Graham Boylan.

“While this situation has resulted in us taking a hit financially, I’m just happy that we’ve been able to ensure that a fighter’s eight-week training camp wasn’t for nothing, and that another fighter has been given a great opportunity to compete on such a big stage.

“I wish Philip Mulpeter a speedy recovery, but I was disappointed to learn that he was sparring three days before a weigh-in, which doesn’t seem wise to me. The fans are now missing out on what was a highly-anticipated bout.

“But that’s the sport. We’ll move on, as we’ve always done, and I’m looking forward to seeing Tom Breese make his long-awaited CWFC debut against an opponent who comes in from France with a very good reputation.”

Meanwhile, CWFC officials remain hopeful of securing a replacement opponent for Arnold Allen today, after the English featherweight saw two previous opponents withdraw inside the past week.

CWFC 74: ROGERS vs. SINCLAIR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, October 10, 2014

A lightweight bout between Saul Rogers and Mick Sinclair has been added to the bill for Cage Warriors 74 at the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park on Saturday, November 15. Tickets are currently available via Ticketmaster.co.uk, priced from just £25.

(London, United Kingdom | Friday, October 10, 2014) - The highly-anticipated card for Cage Warriors 74 continues to get bigger and better.

A lightweight bout between English pair Saul Rogers and Mick Sinclair has today been added to the bill for Cage Warriors Fighting Championship’s thirteenth event of the year.

Cage Warriors 74 will take place on Saturday, November 15, at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park in London, England, and tickets are currently on sale via Ticketmaster.co.uk, priced from just £25 (plus booking fee).

Rogers (8-1) returns to action at CWFC 74 on the back of the biggest win of his career so far this past March in Dublin, Ireland.

The 24-year-old, who represents Manchester’s SBG camp, upset five-time UFC veteran John Maguire in the main event at CWFC 65, taking a unanimous-decision triumph.

With six of his eight career victories coming by way of submission, Rogers holds other notable wins over Artem Lobov, Martin Sheridan and Jason Cooledge.

“I’m looking forward to being back in action in London and I’m glad I’ve got a tough match-up in Mick Sinclair, because I want to keep evolving by testing myself against the best guys in the division,” said Rogers.

“We’re both explosive fighters so I think it’ll make for a very exciting fight on the night. It’s definitely not one the fans will want to miss.”

Sinclair (12-4), who’s also a Lancashire native, will be returning to the cage on November 15 after a lay-off of over a year.

The well-rounded 32-year-old, who has taken ten of his twelve wins by stoppage, with an equal number of wins coming via submission and (T)KO, has overcome the likes of Ashleigh Grimshaw and Jason Ball during an eight-year professional career.

Sinclair will be looking to rebound from a loss to former CWFC lightweight world champion Ivan Buchinger in the semi-finals of the promotion’s title tournament in October 2013.

He said: “It was great being back on Cage Warriors last year for the first time in quite a while; it’s such a professional and well-run show and is a privilege to fight on. I’m looking forward to the next challenge on November 15.”

Cage Warriors 74 will feature two main cards, both of which will be headlined by a world title bout, with Nicolas Dalby defending his CWFC welterweight strap against Mohsen Bahari, and Pannie Kianzad and Agnieszka Niedzwiedz contesting the first ever CWFC women’s bantamweight world title fight.

CWFC 74: UPDATE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, October 3, 2014

Ten more bouts - including Duffy vs. Boussuge, Manzolo vs. Omoyele, and Carter vs. Wilde - have been added to the bill for Cage Warriors 74, which will feature two main cards at the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park on Saturday, November 15. Tickets are available now via Ticketmaster.co.uk, priced from just £25 plus booking fee.

(London, United Kingdom | Friday, October 3, 2014) - Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will return to London next month for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest and most spectacular events in the history of Europe’s leading MMA promotion.

CEO Graham Boylan has confirmed that Cage Warriors 74, which is set for the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park, will feature two main cards on the evening of Saturday, November 15, both of which will be broadcast live around the world following a preliminary card to be streamed live on Facebook.

The event will follow the precedent set by the promotion in June, when Cage Warriors 69: Super Saturday - which also took place in London - hosted two main cards on the same evening, with each topped by a CWFC world title bout.

CWFC gold will also be up for grabs in each of Cage Warriors 74‘s headliners, with Nicolas Dalby defending his CWFC welterweight strap against Mohsen Bahari, and Pannie Kianzad and Agnieszka Niedzwiedz contesting the first ever CWFC women’s bantamweight world title bout.

“As we expected at the time, Super Saturday back in June was an enormous success, so we’ve decided to give the fans more of the same when we come to the Copper Box on November 15,” said Cage Warriors Fighting Championship CEO Graham Boylan.

“It’s a huge event for us, arguably the biggest we’ve ever done, and I can’t think of a better venue than the Olympic Park in London to host some of the very best of mixed martial arts talent from across Europe. If you’re an MMA fan in the UK and even abroad, all I can say is that you won’t want to miss this event.

“Tickets are available from as little as £25, which is an absolute bargain given the calibre of talent that will be on show and in such an outstanding arena. There are now fourteen bouts on the card, the quality of which speaks for itself, and I look forward to seeing the fans turn out in big numbers again for another packed Cage Warriors event in London next month.”

The first of Cage Warriors 74‘s televised main cards will get underway at 6pm local time on Saturday, November 15, before the second swings into action at 9pm. A start time for the Facebook prelims, as well as further information and updates, will be announced in due course.

While several bouts have already been confirmed for Cage Warriors 74, CWFC officials can today reveal ten more, which will feature some of the biggest names on the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship roster.

Following his winning return to MMA against Damien Lapilus at CWFC 70 in August, Irish lightweight Joseph Duffy (11-1) will go in search of his sixth Cage Warriors triumph when he takes on France’s Julien Boussuge (10-3), who’ll be looking to build on last December’s victory against Damien Brown as he returns from a lengthy injury lay-off.

In middleweight action, London’s own Bola Omoyele (7-3) will aim to halt a two-fight skid by putting an end to the five-fight win streak of Estonia’s Andy Manzolo (7-2), while English contenders Sean Carter (9-1) and Tim Wilde (5-0) will clash in what’s set to be an unmissable lightweight tussle.

Many more bouts are still to be announced, but in the meantime check out the fully updated fight card below…

CWFC 74: DALBY vs. BAHARI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 18, 2014

Denmark's Nicolas Dalby (12-0), the reigning CWFC welterweight world champion, will defend his title against Norway's Mohsen Bahari (8-1) in the main event at CWFC 74 at the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Priced from £25 plus booking fee, tickets are now on sale from TicketMaster.co.uk.

(London, United Kingdom | Thursday, September 18, 2014) - Reigning champion Nicolas Dalby will defend his CWFC welterweight world title against Mohsen Bahari in the main event at Cage Warriors 74, and tickets are on sale now.

CWFC 74, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2014, will take place at the iconic Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park in London, England.

In addition to Dalby’s long-awaited inaugural title defence, history will also be made on the night when undefeated duo Agnieszka Niedzwiedz and Pannie Kianzad collide in a bid to become the first ever CWFC women’s bantamweight world champion.

Nicolas Dalby (12-0) was due to put his belt on the line last weekend at CWFC 72 in Newport, Wales, but the fight was cancelled shortly before the weigh-ins after his opponent, Gael Grimaud, was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

The title shot was then set to pass to the new number one contender, Danny Roberts, but the 27-year-old Englishman is currently sidelined with an injury and unable to compete as soon as November 15.

Subsequently, Mohsen Bahari (8-1) will fill the void as the highest-ranked available contender, with the Norwegian aiming to overcome his fellow Scandinavian in London as he looks to become the CWFC welterweight world champion.

Dalby clinched the 170lbs belt - which had been vacated by Cathal Pendred following his move to the UFC - at CWFC 66 in Copenhagen this past March, courtesy of a spectacular head-kick KO of Sergei Churilov.

Since making his professional debut in March 2010, the 29-year-old Dane has yet to taste defeat and holds other notable wins over the likes of Ivica Truscek, Glenn Sparv and Acoidan Duque.

Dalby said: “I was really disappointed that the fight with Grimaud fell through at the last minute, but I want to thank Cage Warriors for handling the situation so well and immediately rescheduling my first title defence, which I’m really looking forward to.

“Bahari is an exciting fighter who leaves it all in the cage, so I think he’ll make for a really tough opponent. He seems like a cool guy but it’s going to be action-packed when we lock horns at the Copper Box on November 15.

“And being involved in a title fight in the Olympic Park, on the same night that my team-mate Pannie Kianzad will also be fighting for a world title, will make it event more awesome.”

Bahari, meanwhile, has put together a 4-1 record under the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship banner since signing an exclusive deal with the promotion in 2012.

The 30-year-old Norwegian picked up the two most significant wins of his career earlier this year, overcoming BJJ black belt Bruno Carvalho and three-time UFC veteran Benny Alloway.

A team-mate of current CWFC middleweight world champion Jack Hermansson, Bahari is keen to bring more Cage Warriors gold back to Oslo’s Frontline Academy later this year.

“I’m extremely happy that Cage Warriors has given me this opportunity,”Bahari said. “It’s an opportunity I am determined to make the most of. I can’t wait for November 15.”

STATEMENT FROM CAGE WARRIORS FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, July 31, 2014

(London, United Kingdom | Thursday, July 31, 2014) - Cage Warriors Fighting Championship (CWFC) can this evening confirm that it has reluctantly taken the decision to move next month's CWFC 71 event to Amman, Jordan.

Originally scheduled to take place in Stockholm on Saturday, August 23, CWFC 71 was due to be another historic Cage Warriors event, with Sweden set to become the thirteenth country to play host to Europe's leading mixed martial arts promotion.

However, issues outside of CWFC's control have forced officials to move the event to Jordan, with CWFC 71 now booked to go ahead at Amman's King Hussein Boxing Arena on Friday, August 22.

CWFC 71 will be Cage Warriors Fighting Championship's tenth event of 2014. Bouts and further details will be announced in due course.

The decision to move CWFC 71 from Sweden to Jordan has come as a result of the nonsensical refusal of the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation (SMMAF) to approve several bouts to be contested under full unified rules.

Of the initial five bouts that were submitted for approval, only one - a featherweight bout between Martin Svensson (13-5) and Dave Hill (12-3) - received permission to be contested under full unified rules.

The remaining four did not receive the necessary approval, with the SMMAF claiming in a statement: "The committee has found that several matches applied for by Cage Warriors have not made the required level."

In addition to referring to "unequal matching", the SMMAF stated its belief that the fighters involved do not possess enough experience to compete under full unified rules.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has been at the core of the global MMA community since its inception in 2002 but, in particular, the significant growth of the promotion since 2010 has been built on a foundation laid by the ability of its fighters and the quality of its matching, courtesy of our exceptional matchmaker Ian Dean.

As a promotion, CWFC is shocked and bemused by the SMMAF's apparent reasoning for preventing these bouts from taking place, given that Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has developed into one of the world's leading promotions based largely on these very qualities.

This has led CWFC officials to question the motives of the SMMAF in this instance, as up until this issue arose, both parties had co-operated effortlessly to lay the platform for CWFC to stage an event in Sweden.

From the outset, CWFC officials assured the SMMAF that their protocol would be followed throughout each step in the process, and even agreed to allow the CWFC 71 undercard bouts to be contested under the SMMAF's 'Swedish rules' i.e. with elbows and up-kicks prohibited.

"Moving this event out of Sweden is a decision we really wanted to avoid, but because of the actions of the SMMAF, we have unfortunately been left with no choice in the matter," said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan.

"To ask our elite fighters, who are among the best in Europe and the world as a whole, to compete under a diluted set of rules to what they have been doing throughout their professional careers is an abhorrent insult to these outstanding athletes and their abilities.

"Jack Hermansson is our middleweight champion and Jack Mason is probably the most experienced fighter in the UK, but their respective bouts were not approved. It's absolutely absurd.

"Suggesting that such fighters are not capable of competing under full unified rules is ludicrous beyond belief and I would never even consider asking them to compete under anything other than full unified rules.

"The SMMAF have left us in an impossible, and very sad, situation here, and unfortunately our only option is to take our athletes elsewhere for this event."

The four bouts which did not receive SMMAF approval for full unified rules are: Jack Hermansson (8-2) versus Cheick Kone (11-3) - CWFC agreed to this title bout being contested over three five-minute rounds; Pannie Kianzad (5-0) versus Alexandra Buch (8-3); Jack Mason (28-13) versus Jonatan Westin (6-2); Liam James (8-6) versus Frantz Slioa (4-0). Applications for further bouts were in the process of being submitted until today's decision to move the event from Sweden.

Furthermore, the SMMAF's pro-committee has claimed publicly that there was no conflict of interest involved in their decisions, despite one committee member being the current manager and coach of Martin Svensson, one of the fighters involved in the only CWFC 71 bout that was approved for full unified rules.

Nevertheless, while the SMMAF has ultimately prevented Cage Warriors from staging this event in Sweden, the promotion is extremely appreciative of the widespread support it has received from the Swedish MMA community, particularly from former SMMAF and IMMAF president August Wallen.

"I'm very sad about this situation," August Wallen said. "Many have worked hard to get Cage Warriors to Sweden and, as someone who helped to build MMA here, I'm concerned as I believe this could be a major setback for the development of MMA in the whole region.

"As a coach, I have looked forward to taking part in this great Cage Warriors event and I feel bad for all the fighters who have worked hard but will now be denied the chance to fight here in Sweden in front of a global audience."

Those sentiments have been echoed by Tue Trnka, CWFC's Head of Operations in Scandinavia, who has worked tirelessly to put the framework in place for the first ever Cage Warriors event in Sweden.

He said: “I'm shocked and appalled by the ridiculous actions of the SMMAF’s pro-committee. This is hurting so many local fighters, as well as the entire Nordic MMA scene, which has now taken a massive hit.

“I strongly disagree with the SMMAF’s negative decisions and I find their lack of dialogue both disrespectful and arrogant, considering the vast impact their decisions will have on so many people.

“We've done everything that was asked of us, and yet it seemingly comes down to just two people on the pro-committee, who for some reason have decided to vote against these fights.

“If you look at some of the UFC’s undercard fights in Sweden, all of which have been approved for full unified rules by the SMMAF, and compare them to the fights we applied for, I find it hard not to wonder if there is some bias involved.

“This was a massive opportunity for Swedish and Nordic MMA, but bureaucracy has won out here and Swedish MMA has suffered an enormous blow.”

In spite of these developments, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will not abandon its plans to expand in Scandinavia, with the promotion more determined than ever to stage an inaugural event in Sweden.

“Our first event in Denmark was a huge success last March and I have no doubt that the same would have been the case in Sweden on August 23,” said Graham Boylan.

“That will now have to wait slightly longer than we had initially hoped for, but I can assure our Swedish fans that it’ll be worth the wait when CWFC finally gets there.

“The actions of the SMMAF have set a worrying precedent for MMA in Sweden, but this has not deterred us at all. Between fighters and fans, Sweden has played a major role in the growth of Cage Warriors and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so.”

CWFC 72: MARSHMAN vs. MILLS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Mills and Marshman to clash in a meeting of two of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship's top middleweight contenders in Newport, Wales, on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

(London, United Kingdom | Tuesday, July 15, 2014) - A meeting of two of the promotion’s top middleweight contenders will take place when Cage Warriors Fighting Championship makes its first visit to Newport.

Jack Marshman and Che Mills (pictured) will square off in the first bout to be announced for Cage Warriors 72, which is set to take place in the Welsh city on Saturday, September 13.

Following CWFC 67 in Swansea this past April, the Newport Centre will play host to the promotion’s second event in Wales this year, with details of further bouts and ticket sales to be released shortly.

The clash of Marshman and Mills could have major implications in the CWFC middleweight title picture, with the winner likely to set his sights on newly-crowned world champion Jack Hermansson.

Mills (16-7-0-2nc) , a four-fight veteran of the UFC, looked extremely impressive when disposing of Leeroy Barnes via first-round submission at May’s CWFC 68 in Liverpool.

“This is going to be a great fight,” said Mills. “I have a lot of respect for my opponent but it’s my hand that’ll be raised at the end.”

With all but two of his 15 professional victories coming inside the distance, Marshman (15-5) is also coming off a first-round submission win, having overcome ex-TUF contestant Bola Omoyele at CWFC 69: Super Saturday in London in June.

Marshman said: “I’m over the moon that Cage Warriors have given me the chance to fight a UFC veteran. Che is one of the best in Europe and this will show everyone what level I’m at.”

Cage Warriors 2014: Schedule Update

London, England (July 4, 2014) - Cage Warriors Fighting Championship CEO Graham Boylan is putting plans in place for a busy second half of the year, with the organisation targetting events in nine different countries before the end of 2014.

Europe’s leading mixed martial arts promotion has already hosted eight events this year, the most recent of which - Cage Warriors 69: Super Saturday - took place in London on June 7 and, unprecedentedly, featured two separate main cards on the same evening.

Dublin, Copenhagen, Amman, Swansea and Liverpool have also played host to CWFC events this year, but according to Graham Boylan, there’s even more to come before 2015 arrives, as the promotion looks set to eclipse the 14 events of last year, which was the busiest in Cage Warriors’ history to date.

After a short summer break, CWFC’s campaign resumes in Dublin on August 16 for CWFC 70, followed by inaugural shows in the Swedish capital of Stockholm a week later and a September date in Newport, Wales.

“We’re going to be very busy between now and the end of the year as we keep the fans entertained with plenty more world-class MMA,” said Boylan.

“As well as several events in the UK and Ireland, plus our first ever show in Sweden, we’re also in the process of finalising events in the USA, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Dubai, details of which I should be able to reveal in the not too distant future.”

Cage Warriors’ forthcoming schedule (more events to be added):

August 16: Dublin, Ireland
August 23: Stockholm, Sweden
September 13: Newport, Wales
November 1: Newcastle, England
December 31: Dublin, Ireland
