Photo Credit Team Escalante CALIFORNIA (April 7, 2014) - After seeing a specialist, x-rays showed that Bruno "The Aloha Kid" Escalante (13-1-1, 6 KOs) was fighting with two broken bones in his left hand during this IBA Super-Flyweight title defense against Victor Ruiz (12-3, 9 KOs).  Escalante showed tremendous grit as he continued fighting when the injury occurred in the 2nd round.  The injury will likely keep Escalante out of the ring for 3 months. "The doctor said Bruno can make a quick recovery if he lets his hand heal properly," said ManagerHerb Stone. "He could return after a few months of rehab.  Bruno proved to me he has tremendous heart carrying on with a broken hand.   I'm hoping he can fight by the end of the summer. I have big plans for Bruno when he returns to the ring." "This is just a minor setback," said Bruno Escalante. "I'm going to do everything the doctor says to make the healing process faster.  I'll continue working out, mostly on my jab since that is the only arm I can use at the moment."

Photo Credit Mario Serrano CALIFORNIA (April 5, 2014) - Tonight at the Cache Creek Casino, Bruno "The Aloha Kid" Escalante (13-1-1, 6 KOs) successfully defended his IBA Super-Flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory against a game Victor Ruiz (12-3, 9 KOs). Escalante vs Ruiz was presented by Don Chargin Productions, Paco Presents Boxing and Cache Creek Casino Resort. In the early rounds, Ruiz pressed the action and won a few rounds before Escalante got into his grove.  Escalante made the proper adjustments in the middle rounds and used superior boxing skills and defense to confuse Ruiz as he took the lead going into the final two rounds.  Ruiz tried to make a final push but Escalante dug deep and finished strong.  Escalante hurt his hand in round 2 and fought with his right hand for most of the fight.  Scorecards read 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94 all in favor for Escalante. "This was a tough fight but I made the proper adjustments to come out on top," said Escalante. "Ruiz is a warrior but he never hurt me except when I busted my left hand in the second round, but that came from me hitting him.  My cornermen Brian Schwartz and Mike Bazzel gave me great advice.  They told me to use my jab and stay relaxed.  My defense was on point tonight and I was in great shape.  I will go to the hospital tonight to get an x-ray of my hand. I'm hoping to return to the ring as soon as I get cleared from the doctor.  I want to thank my team for this victory." "Bruno did what he had to do to get the victory," said Manager Herb Stone. REDWOOD CITY, CA (February 18, 2014) - With less than a couple of weeks away from his 2014 debut, IBA Super-Flyweight champion, Bruno Escalante (11-1-1, 5 KOs) talks about his training camp, being awarded 2013 Nor-Cal Fighter of the Year, and his upcoming fight against Lorenzo Trejo (33-28-1, 20 KOs) at Fox Theatre in Redwood City, California, February 28th.

How has training camp coming along?

Bruno:  Everything is going great.  I have a fabulous team of coaches I'm surrounded by on a daily basis.  My boxing coach Brian Schwartz and strength and conditioning mentor Mike Bazzel are pushing me every day.  Sprint coach Remi Korchemny is working on my explosion.  Victor Conte provides me with the best nutrition and supplements.  I'm with the best team in boxing.

Speaking of you and your team, you were recently voted 2013 Nor-Cal Fighter of the Year for the second time by two different sources.  And your trainers and manager were also awarded.  How does that make feel?

Bruno: Like I said, I have a tremendous team that works hard and I'm very thankful for all that they do for me.  My manager Herb Stone is a great man who has really made a difference in my career keeping my busy.  In 2013 I had five fights and this year I'm looking to do the same. Schwartz and Bazzel are the best trainers for me, they continue to teach me knew things all the time. I'm very humbled and honored to be in the position I'm in at the moment.

What was it like capturing the IBA title?

Bruno:  Man it was a great feeling.  All the hard work has been paying off.  Mikey Ruiz was a tough fighter and we went toe to toe in that fight.  I feel I'll be ready to challenge all the champions in my division with a few more fights. I'm improving with each fight.

You'll be the main event attraction February 28th against veteran Lorenzo Trejo at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City. Can you talk about this matchup?

Bruno: Trejo brings a lot of experience to the ring with over 60 fights under his belt.  He's been in there with some tough fighters so I know he'll be coming to fight.  I expect a rough fight but I'll be ready for whatever he brings to the table.

In closing would you like to say anything to your fans?

ESCALANTE GEARS UP FOR BIGGEST FIGHT OF CAREER

  

SAN CARLOS, CA (November 26, 2013) - Super-Flyweight Bruno Escalante (10-1-1, 5KOs) is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career as he prepares to battle Michael Ruiz (9-3, 3 KOs) of Fresno California for the IBA Super-Flyweight championship.  The 10-round bout is set to happen on December 7th at the Sports House in Escalante's hometown of Redwood City California.

Escalante, a California resident by way of Cebu, Philippines, is fully prepared to give his fans a night to remember. With less than two weeks away, Escalante comments on his training camp and future plans if victorious.

"Training camp has been very difficult," said Escalante. "Ruiz is a southpaw so I have to be super focused on circling the right way. I'm happy with the way training camp has been going.  I've done everything I can do to be ready for this fight.  Although it's been a grueling camp, I happy with the way everything has been going."

Bruno has been dealing with the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan.  A native of the Philippines, Escalante sends out his prayers to the families dealing with the aftermath.

Bruno Escalante to fight for IBA Super Flyweight title

  

SAN CARLOS, CA (November 12, 2013) - The incredibly athletic Bruno "The Aloha Kid" Escalante is getting his first shot at 115lb gold when he fights for the vacant IBA Super Flyweight Championship against Michael Ruiz (9-3, 3 KOs) of Fresno California.  The ten round bout will take place on December 7th at the Sports House in Redwood City California. 

Escalante (10-1-1, 5KOs) has garnered attention over the past year from boxing insiders who have been impressed with his agile footwork, quick hand speed, and his deceptive power.   The Cebu, Philippine born fighter has grown into his capabilities and has secured his position within the ranks. 

  

After growing up in the Philippines during his early years, Escalante moved to Hawaii before making a home out of California.  He's preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime, knowing full-well that capturing a title in the super-flyweight division could put him on the fast track to the top of the division.

BRUNO ESCALANTE VICTORIOUS AGAINST RIOS, GETS 10TH WIN

Bruno Escalante Talks About His Victory Over Joseph Rios September 30, 2013 - This past Saturday at the Cache Creek Casino super flyweight prospect Bruno Escalante (10-1-1, 5 KOs) marched forward in his career winning a majority decision against a game Joseph Rios (13-9-2, 4 KOs).  In the early rounds both fighters were feeling each other out.  Rios was applying pressure as Escalante was countering with superior boxing skills.  Both fighters had their moments in the middle rounds.  Escalante, a southpaw, was getting into a rhythm landing lead lefts followed by sharp right hooks.  Rios' managed to cut off the ring, forcing Escalante to fight in the pocket.  Rios landed a couple of hard stunning shots, but Escalante was in great condition and countered back with some hard blows of his own.  As the fight entered the final round, Rios who was down on the cards, did his best to come back but was unsuccessful.  Scorecards read 76-76, 78-74 and 78-75 "This was a very tough fight and I'm going to take this experience and learn from it," said Escalante. "These are the type of fights that take you to the next level.  I want to thank my team for giving me great instructions in the ring.  It was a team effort and I'm ready to see what's next.  I'm hoping to get right back in the ring." SAN CARLOS, CA (July 16, 2013) - Hot prospect, Bruno Escalante (8-1-1, 4 KOs) is looking to make a name for himself in the Super flyweight division.  Born in Cebu City, Philippines, Escalante now resides in Northern California where he trains with Nonito Donaire, Brian Schwartz and Mike Bazzel. 

Having won his last fight by knockout by way of a vicious body shot, Escalante feels his power will be more evident as he's been improving on his body attack.  His next opponent will be Manuel Galaviz(7-10, 4 KOs) of Sonora, Mexico on July 26, 2013 at Fox Theater in Redwood City, California.  Escalante vs. Galviz will be the co-main attraction of the night. 

"I know I have the ability to take out my opponents and slow them down with hard body shots," said Escalante. "I've been improving on body attack for the last few months and I can see why it's so important to go downstairs.  With every fight I'm feeling more comfortable throwing my right hook to the ribs.  I'm getting better every time I step in the ring."

Manager Herb Stone feels Escalante has the ability to become a world champion and feels his style is fan friendly.  Escalante is known for being explosive with his punches.
