Salita signs Olympian, Pan Am Gold medalist heavyweight Ytalo Perea

MRI confirms Melson’s Tear; Treatment set for tomorrow!

 

 

New York, NY (July 28, 2014) – An MRI confirmed that junior middleweight and West Point graduate Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson suffered a torn supraspinatus. Melson, 14-1-1 (4 KO’s), tore his supraspinatus, which is part of the rotator cuff, preparing for what would’ve been the biggest bout of his professional career against Glen Tapia at Madison Square Garden.

 

This marks Melson’s third tear since he started boxing, one of which forced him to give up his alternate slot in the 2008 Olympics. Thankfully, his injury won’t require surgery, and he’s receiving platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment tomorrow. For the treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn then spun in a centrifuge machine to separate the plasma. The plasma holds the growth factors that the human body uses for healing, and by spinning the blood, the doctor will have a concentrated medium of the body’s growth factor. This is then re-injected into the location of the injury. The PRP treatment followed by therapy should help Melson recover fairly quickly, though the initial post-treatment stage is rough.

 

“The PRP treatment is really going to help but it’s brutal at first,” said Melson. “The first 2-3 days, even the slightest movement causes extreme pain in the shoulder. This will be my third time having Dr. Andrew DeMann working on me. He works miracles and I can only hope for the same result.”

IRISH STAR JOHN JOE NEVIN'S PRO DEBUT TONIGHT IN BOSTON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BOSTON, MA (MARCH 17, 2014)-- Superstars start somewhere and for London Olympic silver medalist, John Joe Nevin, his Monday night fight looks to be the perfect introduction into pro boxing.     It doesn't get much better for an Irish boxer than making a pro debut on St. Patrick's Day in Boston, before a sellout crowd at the famed House of Blues live on FoxSports to a national television audience.     Nevin is the most decorated male, amateur boxer in Irish history, filling his trophy case with his 2012 Olympic silver medal, two bronze medals from World Championships, along with two gold medals and a silver in the highly competitive European Championships.     Nevin meets unbeaten Puerto Rican Alberto Candelaria (3-0-1) in a six-round contest.      "Training has been great. I'm ready. I feel six rounds for my pro debut suits me. I'm looking forward to it, I can't wait to get my career started," Nevin said. "I really just wanna get in the ring and show what I can do, It's a great day, St. Patrick's in Boston, a great city for the Irish.     The more rounds the better it is for me. The longer it goes the better I am. I don't know anything about my opponent, just he's unbeaten and I expect him to be confident. Once I perform to my best, I believe no one in the world can beat me. So I'm just looking for a good performance and making all the Irish fans happy."      Nevin's longtime amateur trainer, Brian McKeown, has made the shift to the pro ranks with him. The pair have worked together back home in Mullingar, Ireland and in Philadelphia, Nevin's home base stateside.     "John Joe has been boxing the best in the world for the last several years and he is well capable of looking after himself in any company," said McKeown. "At this stage in his debut it's more important that he performs, that he impresses. This is his first fight in the states, his first fight on American television, the first fight in his career. I think the crowd will love him, particularly the Irish"     This unique Fox Sports Network event is being promoted by Golden Boy and Murphys' Boxing, the fight arm of the immensely popular, Boston based, Irish punk band "The Dropkick Murphys". DOMINIC "TROUBLE" BREAZEALE RETURNS TO ACTION TONIGHT

WILL NOW BE FACING KEITH BARR DUE TO NAGY AGUILERA WITHDRAWING  UNEXPECTEDLY FROM A BACK INJURY Press Release For Immediate Release Sunrise, Florida (November 26, 2013)  - In the telecast that has been dubbed "Heavyweights Collide" on Golden Boy Live, unbeaten heavyweight prospect Dominic "Trouble" Breazeale (7-0, 7 KO's) will be returning to the ring tonight in a six round bout which was scheduled to be featured live on Fox Sports 1. Breazeale's return to the ring was anticipated by many boxing insiders and  Photo C/O John Bray fans of the heavyweight division as he was scheduled to face his toughest opponent to date in journeyman Nagy Aguilera.   Unfortunately, Aguilera pulled out of the fight unexpectedly due to a back injury on Sunday and Breazeale will now be facing Keith Barr (11-4, 3 KO's) of West Virginia. Breazeale is disappointed due to the turn of events as he trained diligently for Aguilera. However, he is definitely up to the task of taking care of business either way.  Since he turned professional a year ago, the 2012 U.S. Super Heavyweight Olympian has stopped all of his opponents by way of knockout in four rounds or less and expects to continue his winning ways in the same fashion tonight. When asked about the events leading up to tonight's bout, Breazeale indicated the following; "Well you know, it's boxing and it's part of the business.  It's an unfortunate situation but I will make the best of it.  These types of things happen.  I trained hard for Aguilera and now will have to adapt to Barr. It's what's expected at this level." The Chinese National Amateur Boxing Team Will Train and Compete at Gleason's Gym

The Chinese National Boxing Team will arrive on November 6^th and will train until November 25^th at Gleason's Gym.

You are welcome to visit the gym and watch the training in person. Bring a camera and take pictures of the possible future Olympic Gold Medal winners.

The boxing match will take place Sunday, November 17th at 4:00PM

at Gleason's Gym

Join us on the 17th of November and enjoy the excitement of International Amateur Boxing at the highest level.

We have eleven bouts scheduled. We will have both men and women competing.

The weigh in for this show will begin at 2:00PM and the first bout will begin at 4:00PM.

The bouts are sanctioned by USABoxingMetro and follow the International rules of AIBA.

The ticket price is $20 per person. Children 6 and under are not charged. All gym members and registered amateurs with their books in hand pay $15 per person.
