Saturday culminates big week for Club 1957 Management

Cartagena, Sosa and Brunson all in action on the heels of big knockout win by Tevin Farmer

Philadelphia (October 16, 2014) - This Saturday night, three fighters who compete under the Club 1957 Management banner will be in action as Miguel Cartegena (13-1, 5 KO's) takes on Emmanuel Rodriguez for the WBO Latino Bantamweight title.  On the same card in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Jr. Lightweight Jason Sosa (12-1-3, 8 KO's)  takes on Juan Cruz.  In Philadelphia, Jr. Middleweight Tyrone Brunson (22-2-1, 21 KO's) will battle DeCarlo Perez.

Just one week ago, Featherweight Tevin Farmer won his tenth consecutive bout with a one round destruction over Dominic Coca in Springfield, Virginia.

Farmer of Philadelphia took out Coca with one right hook to raise his record to 17-4-1 with four knockouts.

"I always had power and it was just a matter of time before it kicked in.  people will see more knockouts from me," said Farmer.

Farmer is ready for a fight that will put him in great position for a great opportunity.

"I would like to fight for something big.  It is up to my promoter and manager.  I am ready for that fight tomorrow."

Farmer is promoted by DiBella Entertainment.

Since he was a prized amateur, big things have been expected for Cartagena and on Saturday night could be the first step to realizing his championship aspirations.

"I am feeling good, strong and confident in myself.  I had a great camp and I am just ready and feeling good,"said Cartegena.

"This is the perfect time for me.  I have been preparing mentally and physically for this fight.  I am expecting a great show and I will give it all what I got and I will show everyone what I do."

As for Sosa, this will be his first fight in just over six months when he viciously stopped Michael Brooks in the ninth round of their fight in Atlantic City.

"I feel great and camp went really well.  It has been six months and I am ready to get back in there," said Sosa, who will be making his first fight under the Club 1957 Management banner.

"I am looking forward to perform. Being that the fight is in Puerto Rico, I feel that I am at home.  I was raised here and am excited to fight here."

He is facing an unknown quantity in Cruz, but the 26 year-old native of Camden, New Jersey is not concerned.

"I have no idea about him.  My job is to train and be prepared.  My trainer and manager take care of the other stuff. I am just excited and ready to go."

" The statement that we hear so often from boxers "Hard Work Pays Off" applies at every level and it is spreading like wildfire in the Club 1957 Stable. It is my job to ensure that every boxer has what they need so they can bring their best performance every time they step into the ring to fight. I am 24/7 with my team in contact with each of my boxers on a daily basis. This may seem obsessive but it works! I choose to work with specific boxers not only because they are elite athletes (which they are) but equally as important because they have committed to put boxing above all. This is just one of the many reasons why I have no doubt that Tyrone 'Young Gun" Brunson will be victorious over DeCarlo Perez this Saturday night. Tyrone is the more experienced boxer and the fact that he has extraordinary KO power, veteran boxing skills, and in shape...now that is just Dangerous! Obviously I am proud of Tyrone and he is prepared for anything,"said Club 1957 manager Mark Cipparone.

"This week for the stable could not have started off better as both Miguel and Sosa were there to support their gym mate in VA. as Tevin Farmer got things popping with his first round KO. The entire Team traveled together the next morning and we have been in PR  since last Sunday finishing up what Miguel calls his best camp ever! I enjoy every part of what I do and I will always give my best when it comes to my boxers... because as I said in the begining "Hard Work Pays Off!"

Club 1957 Management was founded in 2013 by local businessman Mark Cipparone.  Cipparone is the owner of the widely successful and popular Rocco's Collision.  Since the formation of Club 1957 Management he has guided the careers of some the top fighters in the country.  Currently he manages Heavyweight Joey Dawejko, Jr. Middleweight Tyrone Brunson, Welterweight Raymond Serrano, Bantamweight Miguel Cartegena, Jr. Lightweight Tevin Farmer and Jr. Lightweight Jason Sosa.

Tyrone Brunson looks for big win over DeCarlo Perez this Saturday night at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia

Philadelphia (October 15 2014) - This Saturday night at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, one of the biggest punchers in the sport, Tyrone "Young Gun" Brunson (22-2-1, 21 KO's) returns to the his hometown for the first time in 9 and a half years when he takes on Atlantic City's DeCarlo Perez (12-3-1, 4 KO's) in a scheduled 8-round Jr. Middleweight bout.

The bout is promoted by Main Events, Peltz Boxing and BAM Boxing.

Brunson, who burst on to the scene in 2005 and set the world record for 19 consecutive 1st round knockouts to start his career is looking to restart his promising career.  He knows that all can happen with a win over Perez.

"It is going to be a good fight.  I am well prepared.  This is the best training camp I have ever had and I have to thank my manager Mark Cipparone and Club 1957 Management for that," said Brunson.

He is facing the tough Perez, who himself is on a roll as he has won six of his last seven bouts which includes wins over Dante Moore (8-0-2), Jarmar Freeman (9-1-2) and his last bout when he defeated Marcus Willis (13-3-2).

"I do not know much about Perez.  I heard he is a rugged guy and he comes to fight."

Brunson gained a lot of fanfare all over the world as he was amassing all of those knockout victories, three of which came in New Zealand.

"I am past that record.  This is a rebirth and fans will see a new Tyrone Brunson.  I consider this fight my 2nd pro debut."

With a new team, led by Cipparone, Brunson has been given a proper training camp and knows he is in the right situation to realize his potential.

"I have been doing things in this camp that I have never done before.  Mark has made me very comfortable for this camp."

With his record, Brunson feels that he is not far away from competing in meaningful fights but a win over Perez is a must for that to occur.

"I plan to close the year with one fight after this.  I can see after three fights tops that I can compete for a regional title.  After that a world title.  But now, Perez is my only focus and then I will go from there."

"I want to thank my supporters from day one.  I hope everybody will come out and enjoy this fight card.", finished Brunson

OSUMANU AKABA REPLACES JERRY BELMONTES AGAINST EDNER CHERRY OCT. 18 IN PHILADELPHIA ON NBCSN

Akaba
Philadelphia, PA- Osumanu Akaba, of Ghana, who had a nine-fight knockout streak snapped in his most recent fight, steps in against Edner Cherry in a 10-round junior lightweight contest on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.
Akaba replaces Jerry Belmontes, of Corpus Christi, TX, who injured his right wrist in training last Thursday.
The Cherry-Akaba bout and the Steve Cunningham-Natu Visinia heavyweight 10-rounder will be televised live by NBCSN on its popular Fight Night series beginning at 9 pm (ET).
While more recognizable fighters balked at fighting Cherry on short notice, the 34-year-old Akaba, now living in Tuscaloosa, AL, jumped at the opportunity. He had been ready and waiting for any opportunity when he got the call last Friday to fight Cherry.
Akaba, who turned pro in 2000 as a super bantamweight (122 pounds), is now a full-fledged lightweight (135) at 5-foot-10. His record is 24-6, 19 K0s. He has won three minor championships - WBC International Featherweight Title, WBA Pan African Featherweight Title, WBO Africa Super Featherweight Title.
One of Akaba's four losses was a 12-round decision defeat in a competitive fight in 2008 in London to Ricky Burns, who later won the WBO world lightweight title. Another 12-round decision setback came in 2005 in South Africa against Jeffrey Mathebula, who went on to take the IBF world super bantamweight title.
In his only fight in the US, Akaba dropped an eight-round decision to Bahodir Mamadjonov, of Uzbekistan, who is 17-1, 11 K0s. Prior to that match last August, Akaba had scored nine consecutive knockouts. He has been stopped only once, early in his career.
There was some good news, however, for Cherry, who moved up to No. 15 in the WBC world ratings at 130pounds. He is No. 11 in the IBF.

Tevin Farmer to take on Dominic Coca on Saturday night in Springfield, Virginia

Philadelphia (October 7, 2014) -This Saturday night at the ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, Virginia, rising Featherweight Tevin "The American Idol" Farmer will look for his 10th consecutive victory when he takes on Dominick Coca (8-9, 2 KO's) from Watts, California in an 8-round bout.

The 24 year-old Farmer has a record of 16-4-1 with three knockouts has been training hard for this fight against the veteran Coca.

"Everything is good.  I am just unwinding and getting on weight as well as staying sharp," said the Philadelphia native.

Farmer will be relying on his skills as he does not know much about the 17 fight veteran.

"I do not know anything about him.  The first I heard of him was when my manager Mark Cipparone told me about him.  I do not need to look at him.  I trust my manager and trainer's decisions."

It's been a complete 180 degree turn for Farmer as he is now going into fights expected to win.

"I have always had my mind set to go in there and win.  I did not have the right backing but over the course of the last 10 fights that has changed.  I have a great support system and that has made the world of a difference.  That being said, nothing has changed as I always feel pressure to perform."

With the winning streak and now an impressive record, Farmer hopes to be competing with the top guys at 126 and 130 pounds.

"In the next 6 to 9 months, I would like to be competing for a world title.  I am ready to step in with top competition.  I was not babied on my way up, so after a couple of more wins, I will be ready for a big opportunity."

"October 11 will be great.  I am in tremendous shape and expect an impressive victory.", finished Farmer.

" I'm always excited and confident whenever Tevin steps into that ring. He has done everything that a manager could ask of his fighter and more. Tevin is always in the gym, always in shape, and always ready to fight. That might be something you can find in your travels, but what makes Tevin special aside from his work ethic is that he is one very talented fighter. I have witnessed his growth over his last 9 fights and he gets better every single time he steps into that ring. It doesn't matter if you are a boxer or a banger or both, one thing for sure Tevin Farmer has a way of making some very talented fighters look bad. Yesterday, Tevin was a diamond in the rough but today "The American Idol" stands out not because of some type of luck or alignment of the stars... but simply because of all that made him who he has become...a superstar in the making!", said Farmer's manager and Club 1957 CEO Mark Cipparone.

Brunson-Perez Middleweight Battle Tops Oct. 18 Prelim Card At the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia

DeCarlo Perez - Tyrone Brunson

Philadelphia, PA—Hidden beneath the publicity surrounding the NBCSN-televised twin main events on Saturday, Oct 18, is an intriguing eight-round middleweight match.

It features Tyrone Brunson, of Philadelphia, and DeCarlo Perez, of Atlantic City, NJ, in what figures to be an explosive contest at the 2300 Arena at 2300 South Swanson Street.

The Brunson-Perez showdown will serve as the main preliminary contest to the doubleheader main event:  Steve “USS” Cunningham, of Philadelphia, vs. Natu Visinia, Lakewood, CA, 10 rounds, heavyweights; Edner Cherry, Wauchula, FL, vs.Jerry Belmontes, Corpus Christi, TX, 10 rounds, lightweights.  NBCSN will televise Cunningham-Visinia and Cherry-Belmontes on its popular Fight Night series beginning at 9pm (EST).

Brunson (right), 29, set some kind of record when he turned pro in 2005 and knocked out all of his first 19 opponents in one round.  That streak ended in 2008 when Brunson was held to a six-round draw by Mexican Antonio Soriano in Canada.

Overall, Brunson is 22-2-1, 21 K0s, including a stoppage—first round, of course--in his last fight June 1over Jansel Mateo in the loser’s Dominican Republic backyard.

Now managed by Mark Cipparone and trained by Sloan Harrison, Brunson appears ready to get his career jump-started again.  Though he lives in Philadelphia, the Oct. 18fight with Perez will mark Brunson’s first pro fight there since his debut in 2005.  Instead, he has boxed in Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Texas, Canada, Dominican Republic and New Zealand.

“Fighting in my hometown means more to me than ever before,” Brunson said.  “I have not fought in Philly since my pro debut at the Blue Horizon so I can’t wait to give my friends, family and fans the performance of a lifetime.  I never realized that I would have this extra boost that I am feeling right now just because I will have my people there rooting for me.  Crazy as it seems, I now have a second chance because this feels like my pro debut all over again.

“I absolutely have something to prove.  One thing that no one should deny, however, is that I have K0 power.  The knockout thing is both a gift and a curse, but as far as the skeptics go, all I can do is to take this first step by defeating Perez.  I have 20 first-round knockouts and that should bring those curious boxing fans out to South Philly that night.  I am looking forward to a packed house with those who support me and those who are curious to see what I’m all about.”

Perez (below left), 23, appears to be coming into his own, having won six of his last seven, dropping only an eight-round split decision to Wilky Campfort, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, earlier this year in Atlantic City.

A pro since 2010, Perez is 12-3-1, 4 K0s.  In his last fight Aug. 2 in Atlantic City, he earned a six-round decision over Marcus Willis, of Ft. Myers, FL.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym but there still are a few things to fix,” Perez said.  “I’ll be ready for anything Brunson brings.  He may try to come out fast, like he does in most of his fights, or he may want to start slower and save something for the later rounds.”

Co-trainer Hassan Hameed-El:  “This fight will prove what we already know—DeCarlo is one of the best middleweight prospects in the country.  He should be in line for a regional title after this, certainly a spot among the Top 15 in the country.  This fight reinforces what people have seen.  DeCarlo has fought undefeated fighters, experienced fighters, tough fighters.”

The Oct. 18 show includes a six-round all-Philadelphia lightweight contest betweenVictor Vasquez and Gerald Smith.

Vasquez, 31, is known as The Fighting Barber since he cuts hair when he is not boxing.  A pro since 2006, Vasquez is 16-9-1, 7 K0s.  He has not boxed since March 21when he lost an unpopular eight-round decision to Osnel Charles, of Atlantic City, at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

This will mark Vasquez’ 10th pro fight in this building, formerly known as the New Alhambra, Arena and Asylum Arena.  He is 7-2-1 there.

Smith, 29, also has been idle lately, last boxing March 29 when he dropped a four-round decision to Wellington Romero, a member of the Dominican Republic Olympic team, in Atlantic City.  That was Smith’s first fight in six years; he is 3-1, 1 K0.

Three four-round fights complete the seven-bout card.

Tickets are priced at $50 and $75 they are on sale at Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922) or online at www.peltzboxing.com. They also can be purchased through Wanamaker’s Tickets (215-568-2400).   The event is sponsored by Rocco’s Collision.

Carson Jones to Devon Alexander: Step up to the plate!

Oklahoma City, OK (April 16, 2013) – In an age where fighters build their records up by partaking in gross mismatches, Oklahoma City based welterweight contender “Mr.” Carson Jones is a boxing rarity.

The youthful but experienced 26-year-old began his career without true direction, taking a number of early losses against world class opposition. Since March 2009, Jones has an excellent 18-2-1 record with 13 wins by knockout. Along the way, Jones, whose overall professional ledger is 34-9-3 (24 KO’s), steamrolled previously unbeaten knockout king Tyrone Brunson, 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo Williams, welterweight contender Said Ouali and former title challenger Michael Clark.

In July 2012, Jones lost a hotly contested majority decision in the hometown of Kell Brook in one of the best fights during that calendar year. Dubbed as “Special K” due to his diverse talents, Brook dominated all 27 of his opponents up to that point. Against Jones, a bruised and bloodied Brook survived a number of rough moments and never considered a rematch.

Fast forward to 2013, where Brook found himself pitted against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander; or so we thought. The two were scheduled to fight on multiple occasions, with each man pulling out of the fight due to an injury. On Saturday, May 18, Brook-Alexander was finally scheduled to take place on Showtime, but Brook suffered another injury that forced him to withdraw, leaving the champion without an opponent.

“I know a lot of guys are calling out Alexander and I can’t blame them,” said Jones, the IBF’s 7th rated contender. “But how many of them have been through hell in a gasoline suit? Which one of them went overseas and got the short end of a decision against a fighter that is considered one of boxing’s next bright stars? Can anybody else out there vying for this fight claim to have faced the level of opposition I have? The answer is no.”

Jones also believes that his fan-friendly style would make for a great fight and a bout with Alexander would produce two winners; Carson Jones and the spectators.

“After Alexander’s sleep-induced fight with Randall Bailey, I think the boxing world needs an exciting fight. I do not run from my opponents. Unlike Bailey, I will cut the ring off and force him to fight my fight just like Tim Bradley did. Alexander’s known as Devon “The Great” but does his name mean anything? If he’s true to his moniker and wants to show how great he his, all Team Alexander has to do send me a contract and see me in the ring on May 18!”

Jones is currently in training with the hopes of facing Alexander or another top welterweight in the immediate future.

Carson Jones Ready to face Kell Brook!

Oklahoma City, OK (March 19, 2012) – USBA Welterweight champion and IBF #3 rated “Kid” Carson Jones has made a career out of shattering his opponents’ dreams.

The 25-year-old Oklahoman has impressive wins over knockout artist Tyrone Brunson, 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo Williams, world rated Said Ouali and title contender Michael Clark, but recognizes that there are plenty of fish to fry.

Enter brash Brit Kell Brook. Like Jones, Brook is a rising star who’s rated highly by the IBF. With a dynamic personality backed by an outstanding record of 27-0 with 18 wins by knockout, the Sheffield native’s widely regarded as the second coming of Naseem Hamed. Although he continues to improve with each performance and is fresh off a dominant victory over Matthew Hatton, many would argue that Brook is yet to challenge a legitimate contender; such as Carson Jones.

“Kell Brook thinks he’s more than what he is at this point,” said Jones, who has a 33-8-2 record with 23 KO’s and went from being regarded as an opponent to a top-tier contender. “He’s calling out Amir Khan but hasn’t earned the right to do. Beating Matthew Hatton doesn’t give him that luxury and we all saw what Saul Alvarez did to Hatton. Brook is decent but I’ve beaten better fighters and I’d gladly go to England to fight him!”

Jones manager Bobby Dobbs also sees no issue with his fighter once again entering enemy territory en-route to a world title shot.

“Carson Jones is willing to do whatever it takes to become champion,” said Dobbs. He has fought all comers since day one and if he has to go to England to knockout Kell Brook, then that is what we will do!”

Fans can keep up with Jones by going to Facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000023042052 or Hdboxing.net.
