Palacios to Promote and Headline September 20 in Orlando!

Orlando, FL (July 16, 2014) – Former two time world title challenger and top rated cruiserweight Francisco “Wizard” Palacios makes his long-awaited return to the ring Saturday, September 20 but in a different role than the average fighter.

Tired of empty promises along with fights falling apart, Palacios founded World Wide Elite Entertainment last month and is playing the role of main event fighter as well as promoter of “The Comeback”.

This special fight card takes place at the elegant Mela Room, located at 9677 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando 25 dollar general admission, $45 ringside and $500 VIP tables of 6 with bottle service included are on sale by calling 561-702-7068. All ticketholders over the age of 21 are invited to a special post-fight party at the Mela Room hosted by DJ Eric.

Palacios has an excellent 21-2 record with 13 victories coming by way of knockout. The Orlando based Puerto Rican holds knockout victories over fellow title contenders Louis Azille and Luis Pineda but was on the wrong end of two controversial decisions in the home country of WBC champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. Unfortunately, promotional and managerial issues kept him out of the ring since September 2012.

His opponent will be announced shortly.

In the co-main event, contender Rowland Bryant of Almonte Springs, FL battles an opponent to be named. Bryant, 18-3 (12 KO’s), scored a massive upset a few years back, knocking out iron-chinned Librado Andrade inside of three rounds. A victory on the 20th could move him back into contention.

In separate undercard bouts, world title challenger Mike Marrone, Contender Season 4 Alum Alfredo Escalera Jr. and 2008 Cuban Olympian Idel Torriente will all face opponents TBA.

“This is a new venture for me and something that I need at this point in my career,” said Palacios. “I fought twice for a world title and won my first 20 pro fights, only to have politics put me on the sidelines. As a promoter, I’m not only going to get myself back in the title picture but also assist other fighters that were mistreated in the past.

BROADWAY BOXING PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

New York, NY (7/31/12) - Earlier today, at New York City's famed Jack Demsey's Bar and Restaurant, DiBella Entertainment hosted the final press conference for their upcoming Broadway Boxing card this Thursday held at Roseland Ballroom.  Gracing the presser was main event participant and DBE's red-hot undefeated super middleweight contender Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen (19-0-1, 13 KO's), all the way from South Africa. He will square off against Florida's Rowland Bryant (16-1, 11KO's) in a 12-round clash in defense of his International Boxing Organization (IBO) title.  Also present was "Irish" Seanie Monaghan (14-0, 9 KO's), of Long Beach, NY, who will look to keep his perfect record intact when he takes on the always-tough George Armenta (14-9, 11 KO's) in a 10-round light heavyweight co-feature bout. Undercard participants Floriano "L'Italiano" Pagliara (13-4-1, 7 KO's) and former New York amateur standout Zach Ochoa (1-0, 1KO) also attended.

Director of Public Relations for DBE, Kevin Rooney Jr. kicked off the presser thanking everyone for coming out to show their support for what is one of the most anticipated Broadway Boxing cards in the company's history.  He also took time to acknowledge the events sponsors, welcoming in new partners, Newlio, the Manfredi Auto Group, and Fight Now TV.

Below are highlights from the presser:

KEVIN ROONEY JR.

"This is our fourth Broadway Boxing card this year, the third at Roseland Ballroom. The main event for this one is one of the best main events Broadway Boxing has ever produced. You have Thomas 'Tommy Gun' Oosthuizen taking on Rowland Bryant. This is a matchup that could easily be on 'ShoBox' or even HBO's 'Boxing After Dark' and we're putting it on our Broadway Boxing series. We're very excited about it. This is Tommy's New York debut. For those of you who haven't seen Tommy fight, he really is something special and he's going to start making some serious noise in the super middleweight division.

"In the co-feature, we have 'Irish' Seanie Monaghan. If you're from New York or if you follow the New York boxing scene, Seanie is the biggest thing out there right now. He continues to pack the house each and every time he steps into the ring. He continues to impress and he continues to improve. It's a pleasure working with Seanie and his team, trainer Joe Higgins and manager PJ Kavanagh. We look forward to continue working with Seanie, watching him climb the light heavyweight rankings and march toward a world title shot."

"For a long time Lou DiBella has wanted to broadcast Broadway Boxing live and now this is our first card where we're able to do that with Fight Now TV."

THOMAS OOSTHUIZEN

"We were working hard in training, Johnny Muller, Harold Volbrecht, everybody came together perfectly. I can't complain about anything. We're ready to fight. If you've trained as hard as I have, the actual fighting is the easy work, and I'm looking forward to the easy work on Thursday night. I just want to shine and show you people what I have and what I have in store for you."

HAROLD VOLBRECHT (Oosthuizen trainer)

I would like to thank DiBella Entertainment for getting us on this big show. We're taking this fight very seriously. We've been here in the States now for almost a month. We set up training camp in Pleasantville, New Jersey, and we brought very good sparring with us in Johnny Muller, a light heavyweight, a strong guy and good fighter. We had a tremendous training camp, Tommy's weight is looking good now. Tommy is so talented. He's improving with every fight. Every fighter fights different with different styles. He's got good hand speed, good power, he's the whole package. We're ready to fight anybody in the world now. He's an exciting fighter and the more fans see him on television, the more they're going to want him and to see him."

SEANIE MONAGHAN

"I want to thank DiBella Entertainment for putting me on again. Everyone keeps going back to my early days as a pro, but I'm really just getting started. I'm flying so high right now with my confidence and conditioning. It's going to be a lot of fun in the ring on Thursday night because I am more than ready to take care of business and I am a completely different fighter now than I was even from the last fight. I had a long, hard training camp, in the heat, on the track. Here I am, I'm ready to go and Thursday night you're going to see the new and improved Sean Monaghan."

JOE HIGGINS (Monaghan trainer)

"Some folks might consider Seanie a work in progress and that might have been true early on, he's a fire-breathing prospect right now. It's a testimony to his conditioning. As all trainers know, when a fighter makes your job easy, you can really get into a fighter's head, so Sean, as a professional, trains three times a day half the week, and two times a day the other half of the week. He only receives one day off. From the last fight to this bout, he was given a month off. He took one week off, he said, 'Let's get back in the gym.' He doesn't want to miss one step of improvement. Show me one boxer in this New York area whose first fight to 14th fight who has improved as well as Sean has, I really don't think there is one. We are purposely choosing opponents that are going to makes us work. We are not picking the guys who are looking to get knocked out because he's got the power to knock guys right out. What good would that do us when he's got things to work on? Sean has improved on those things and that's what makes him a fire-breathing prospect. He will win impressively on Thursday night like he did in that last fight. I do believe it will be a stoppage, but we are prepared to go 10 full, hard rounds if need be. With Seanie Monaghan, you have the total package and I predict he will be a world champion."

FLORIANO PAGLIARA

"Thank you to DiBella Entertainment for this opportunity. My life has definitely changed since coming to the United States and turning pro. My English is getting better. I've fought already three times this year and now I am so happy to have a great team around me. Thank you to Richie Komissar, Tommy Gallagher and DiBella Entertainment. I look forward in the near future to one day fight for the Italian championship."

ZACH OCHOA

"Thank you for coming out supporting us. I'm looking forward to Thursday and I want you guys to know that I am training real hard. I've been training hard since my pro debut. I'm staying in the gym, I'm ready to go, I'm ready to fight and I'm going to put on a great show for everybody."

DOUG JACOBS (Fight Now TV)

"It's great to be working with DiBella Entertainment. I've known Lou a long time and it's great to finally do a show with him. For those of you who don't know, Fight Now TV is a 24/7 sports channel that recently launched. Fight fans know that there's no better time to market a dedicated fight channel for combat sports. MARVELOUS ABNER MARES WINS SECOND WORLD TITLE; ANSELMO MORENO MAKES 10TH CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE

Saturday’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® Telecast Will Replay Sunday, April 22 at 9:30 a.m. on ET/PT SHOWTIME® and Tuesday, April 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME®

EL PASO, Texas (April 22, 2012) – Abner Mares has power, he has speed, and now he has a second world championship belt. Mares, the 26-year-old undefeated Mexican American from Hawaiian Gardens, Calif., by way of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, captured the vacant WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship with an emphatic victory over game veteran Eric Morel on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

In the co-feature, Anselmo Moreno, the slick and talented Panamanian world champion, cruised to victory over David de la Mora with a ninth-round technical knockout.

Mares, who recently vacated the IBF bantamweight title, brought considerable power up to 122 pounds and seemed to sacrifice none of his hand speed. Morel, 10 years Mares’ senior, is a veteran of nine world title fights and a former two-time world champion. Morel admitted coming into the fight that this could be his last shot at one of boxing’s crowns. The Puerto Rico native, now living and fighting out of Madison, Wisconsin, came to win, but Mares’ confidence and ability won the night.

Fighting aggressively for every minute of every round, Mares dominated from the early going with a damaging body attack. He moved fluidly from the body to the head, stunning Morel on several occasions.

What Morel gave up in age, he made up for in heart. Morel withstood the punishment dolled out by the younger Mares. He gave a valiant effort right through the final two rounds, making the 11th and 12th the two most exciting and competitive of the bout.

“If this is the last major fight of his career,” said Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein during the telecast, “and it very well could be, he has nothing to be ashamed of.”

The judges had it unanimously for Mares by scores of 120-107 and 119-109 twice. The young star improved his record to 24-0-1 (13 KO’s) and is looking for his next challenge - a fight with the super bantamweight division’s elite.

After the bout, a joyful Mares said the move up in weight was a good one for him. “I felt a lot stronger at this weight. I felt complete.

“I have to say Eric was very strong. I was surprised he withstood the pressure. He went out like a true champion. That last round was a great round for both of us.”

The modest champion continued, “I feel I still need to improve. I am still learning. Sometimes I make it brawl when I don’t have to, so there’s definitely more I can do.”

When asked if he had been 10 years younger tonight, Morel said, “The (age) doesn’t matter. He probably would have done the same thing. He’s a great fighter. He’s one of the best I’ve ever faced. I have nothing to be ashamed of. He put on a great performance. What else can I say?”

***

The 26-year old Moreno was coming off of a big win over tough veteran Vic Darchinyan. On Saturday, he made the 10th successful defense of his WBA Bantamweight Championship.

Moreno used his superior reach and defense to dispatch De La Mora, who retired after the 8th round. De La Mora went down twice in the fight - in the second and sixth rounds - both times from vicious body punches.

According to SHOStats, over his last five fights, Moreno’s defense has been hit with just 17-percent of his opponents’ punches - second only to Floyd Mayweather.

Moreno improved his record to 33-1-1 adding a 12th knockout.

A 10-year professional at just 26 years-old, Moreno impressed ringside analyst Antonio Tarver and undoubtedly many others. Tarver said, “This guy could be head and shoulders above the rest in the bantamweight division, but now it’s time to see him against the best.”

Additional preliminary bouts aired live on SHOWTIME EXTREME.

Light heavyweight prospect Rowland Bryant (16-1, 11 KO’s) of St. Augustine, Fla., made a statement by stopping veteran Librado Andrade (30-5, 23 KO’s) of La Habra, Calif., by TKO at 2:19 of the third round.
Luis Ramos, Jr. (22-0, 9 KO’s) looked sharp in his 10-round decision victory over veteran Daniel Attah (26-10-1, 9 KO’s). Ramos, the lightweight prospect out of Santa Ana, Calif., won by scores of 100-89 and 99-90 twice.

Also, Francisco Vargas (10-0-1, 7 KO’s) of Mexico City, Mexico, scored a technical knockout win over Rafael Lora (11-8, 5 KO’s) of Irvington, New Jersey in the third round.
