UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHT LUIS "EL MERCEDEZ" ORTIZ TO MAKE HIS GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS DEBUT AGAINST VETERAN ALEX GONZALES TUESDAY, NOV. 26 AT THE BB&T CENTER IN SUNRISE, FL.

SUNRISE, FLORIDA (Nov. 22) - Fighting in his adopted home state of Florida for the first time since 2012, highly-touted Cuban heavyweight contender Luis "El Mercedez" Ortiz will make his Golden Boy Promotions debut against fellow southpaw Alex Gonzales of Puerto Rico in a featured bout at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The 10-round bout was added to the fight card after the matchup between Odlanier "La Sombra" Solis and Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson was removed from the card.

In the Golden Boy Live! main event, airing on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes, heavyweight star Antonio "The Magic Man" Tarver returns to action to face Mike Sheppard for the vacant NABA Heavyweight crown. In the co-main event, undefeated bantamweight Randy "El Matador" Caballero makes his Florida debut against local southpaw Jessy Cruz of Miami. Also featured on the card will be unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic "Trouble" Breazeale, who takes on Nagy Aguilera in an eight-round televised bout.

Owner of nearly 350 amateur wins, Camaguey, Cuba native Luis "El Mercedez" Ortiz (17-0, 14 KO's) is on the fast track to the top of the heavyweight division. Now making his home in Miami, the 34-year-old southpaw has won 10 fights in three rounds or less and he will be looking for another quick finish to entertain his local fans.

"I'm happy to put this deal together between Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, said Juan Lazaro Jimenez, manager of Luis Ortiz. I am also excited about the possibilities that will see us lead Luis Ortiz to the world heavyweight championship."

"I'm proud to be fighting for Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, and I'm going to give a great show on November 26, said Luis Ortiz. "I'll be looking for the knockout from the opening bell, and as excited as the fans will be, I'm even more excited to be fighting in and representing the United States, which has been my home for the past four years."

A 1992 Olympian who represented Puerto Rico in the Barcelona Games, Alex Gonzales (20-8, 10 KO's) is a veteran competitor who can match Ortiz in world-class experience as both an amateur and a professional. Winner of two of his last four bouts, Gonzales has waited for an opportunity like this and plans on making the most of it when he steps in the ring against his unbeaten foe.

Tarver vs. Sheppard, a 10-round bout for the vacant Interim NABA Heavyweight title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O'Reilly Auto Parts. The BB&T Center doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 6:45 p.m. ET. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes bilingual simulcast will air live at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

2004 U.S. Olympian Jason 'Big Six' Estrada Ready and on call for big shot

Headlines Nov. 10 in Providence
Jason Estrada
2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada

PROVIDENCE (October 26, 2012) - Thirty-one-year-old Jason "Big Six" Estrada (19-4, 5 KOs) has been patiently waiting the past two years for his last shot at the big-time. The 2004 U.S. Olympian, fighting out of Providence, is preparing to headline the November 10th "Big Things" card at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

Estrada fights veteran Galen "Bad Boy" Brown (38-20-1, 23 KOs) in the eight-round main event, presented by Big Six Promotions, on the "Big Things" show featuring many of New England's favorite boxers. Estrada has won his last three fights against Alex Gonzales, Dominique Alexander and Joseph Rabotte, while the battle-tested Brown has fought former world champion Hasim Rahman, world title challenger Mariusz Wach, and former Russian titlist Andrey Fedosov.

"I'm trying to work my way back into position for a big fight," Estrada explained. "It's a   lot better staying active instead of just training, which gets boring after a while. I'm hoping to get a call if an opponent falls out in a big fight or if somebody hears my name and he wants a challenge. I'm staying busy. I'm not in a situation where I can call the shots. Guys today pick their opponents, waiting to get a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers."

Today, Estrada is much different from the highly-decorated U.S. amateur boxer who turned professional nearly eight years ago. He has changed his style back to the way it was when he was boxing in the Junior Olympics, plus he's healthier than he's been at any time since his amateur days.

"I sat down with my father (and head trainer Roland Estrada) and we changed my style a lot, back to what it was when I was fighting in the JO's," Estrada said. "When computer scoring came to the amateurs, I had to win points and did that by boxing. It was easy but that style doesn't work in the pros. I made a transition the past two years to sit on my punches and hurt guys. It just took a little time to get there. Everything was new for me when I turned pro.

"I'm healthy now, too. Fighting as a pro, my body hurt all the time. I had elbow, foot and other issues that are all cleared up. I've become more patient, picking my shots better. I learned that boxing is a marathon, not a sprint, and I'm smarter today. I'm only fighting eight, 10 and 12 round fights now.

"I'm not fighting past 35, so the clock's ticking, faster and faster. I'm waiting for my opportunity. It has to come before long. I've been working two years like this, staying busy and ready. Once I get that chance, I'm going to snatch it. I've become a professional fighter."

Unbeaten Pawtucket (RI) junior welterweight Diego Periera (7-0-1, 2 KOs) faces veteran Bryan "The Brick" Abraham (6-14-2, 6 KOs) in the six-round co-feature.

A solid six-round bout has been added to the card matching a pair of unbeaten junior welterweights, Gabriel Deluc (6-0, 1 KO), of Boston, and Waterbury's (CT) Jair Ramos (3-0-1, 2 KOs).

Scheduled to fight on the undercard in four-round bouts are Providence junior welterweight Josh "Bam Bam" Beeman (4-11-3, 2 KOs) vs. Carlos Hernandez(3-2, 2 KOs), Hyannis (MA) heavyweight Jesse Barbosa (4-1-1, 3 KOs) vs. TBA, Hyannis light heavyweight Paul Gonsalves (4-2, 3 KOs) vs. Ahmad Mickens (1-2-1), former Irish National amateur champion Michael McLaughlin (2-1-1), fighting out of Boston, vs. Robert Hunt (0-2), of Hyannis, Providence middleweights Kevin Harrison and Pubilo Pena make their pro debuts fighting each other, Springfield super middleweight Reinaldo Graceski (2-0) vs. Michael Mitchell (0-1), and Portland, Maine middleweight Russell Lamour in his pro debut vs. TBA.

All fights and fighters subject to change.

Tickets, reasonably priced at $40.00, $60.00 and $100.00, are available to purchase by calling Big Six Boston at 1.617.312.5059, Big Six Providence at 1.401.241.3490(RI), going on line at www.bigsixentertainment, com or www.ticketmaster.com, and at the Rhode Island Convention Center box office.

PROVIDENCE (June 29, 2012) - In his continuing effort to get back to the top of the American heavyweight scene, 2008 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada won a workmanlike eight-round decision over Puerto Rican-invader Alex Gonzales in the main event on tonight's "Takeover" card, presented by Big Six Entertainment, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

In a toe-to-toe battle between quick-handed Estrada (19-4, 5 KOs) and cagey southpaw Gonzales (20-7, 10 KOs), Providence heavyweight Estrada consistently beat Gonzales, a former world title challenger and 1992 Puerto Rican Olympian, to the punch.

Estrada won all eight rounds on each of the three judges' scorecards by scores of 80-72.

"I thought it was a good performance," Estrada said after the fight. "The dude can take a shot. Once I realized that he wouldn't go, I boxed his head off. I hurt my thumb a little in the second round, so I boxed and used my jab.

"Next? If (Tony) Grano wants to fight, let's go. I've been trying to get him in the ring for a long time."

The comeback of former USBA and NABO middleweight champion Brian "The Bull" Barbosa (31-6, 23 KOs), now fighting out of Providence, continued on a high note in the co-feature. Barbosa decked light heavyweight John "Rusty" Johnson (13-3, 11 KOs) twice en route his fifth-round TKO victory.

Pawtucket (RI) junior welterweight Diego Pereira (7-0-1, 3 KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact, destroying dangerous William "Chino" Correa (9-6, KOs) by way of a second-round technical knockout.

The long awaited pro debut of junior lightweight Toka Khan-Clary was a monumental success. Liberian-native Kahn-Clary, fighting out of Pawtucket (RI), dropped a game Jonathan Caban with a body shot in the opening round. The young southpaw dropped Caban again in the second and pounded the New Yorker until the referee halted the action later in the same round.

Unbeaten junior welterweight Jair Ramos (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped an overmatched Joel Alarcon in the third round.

Providence junior middleweight Kali Reiss improved her record to 5-1-1, taking a four-round decision from Lyneisha Jefferson in an action-packed fight.

Jesus Cintron (1-1-1) recorded his first win as a professional with a four-round decision over Rameil Shelton.

Injury-free Jason 'Big Six' Estrada Climbing back to top of heavyweight division

Big Six logo

Headlining 'Takeover' card Friday night in Providence
Jason Estrada

Jason "Big Six" Estrada

PROVIDENCE (June 26, 2012) --  Healthy for the first time in his professional career, 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada continues his march back to the top of the heavyweight division, headlining Friday night's Big Six Entertainment-presented "Takeover" card, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

The 31-year-old Estrada (18-4, 5 KOs), fighting out of Providence, faces 1992 Puerto Rican Olympian Alex Gonzales (20-6, 10 KOs) in the eight-round main event.  One of the most decorated amateur boxers in United States history, Estrada is coming off of arguably his most impressive performance last March, a stunning second-round knockout of veteran Dominque Alexander.

At the height of his career, to date, Estrada went the distance on the road in highly competitive fights with present World Boxing Association ("WBA") World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin, as well as two-time, two-division world champion  Tomasz Adamek.

Estrada's most notable victims have included Lance Whitaker, Derek Bryant, Charles Shufford and Zuri Lawrence.  Throughout his career, however, Jason was hampered by aggravating injuries to his elbow and ankle, which have been repaired through surgeries, allowing him to fight pain-free and putting him back in the heavyweight picture.

"This is the first time I've been healthy since before the 2004 Olympic Games (he suffered from plantar fasciitis)," Estrada explained.  "It's made a huge difference for me, training and in fights.  I'm not worried anymore about hurting something.  Now, I'm throwing without recourse.

"This is another one of our shows (Big Six Entertainment), so I don't have to worry about all of the nonsense working for other promoters.  I want to keep active.  I enjoy fighting at home in Providence.  I've never felt added pressure fighting here but, fighting in front of family and friends, I always want to look good, not just win."

Gonzales is an experienced southpaw who is a past United States Boxing Association heavyweight champion.  He has been in the ring with former world champion Vassiliy Jirov and world title challenger Calvin Brock.

"I don't have problems fighting southpaws," Estrada said.  "I've beaten four or five as a pro and fought so many as an amateur.  In the early nineties, southpaw was the style of many International boxers.

"I'm getting back to where I was.  I'm not there, yet, but I believe a big fight is on the horizon for me.  I just want to keep fighting and beat some big names.  I'm hoping to win a few titles and make some money before it's all over for me."

In the six-round co-feature, former USBA/NABO middleweight champion Brian "The Bull" Barbosa (30-6, 22 KOs), also fighting out of Providence, meets dangerous Mississippi light heavyweight John Johnson (13-2, 10 KOs).

Pawtucket (RI) welterweight Diego Periera (6-0-1, 2 KOs) puts his unbeaten on the line versus William "Chino" Correa (9-5, 8 KOs), of Framingham (MA), in a six-round contest.

Also fighting on the undercard in four-round bouts are Providence welterweight Kali Reiss (4-1-1, 2 KOs) vs. Lyneisha Jefferson (0-1), of Newark (NJ), Providence junior welterweight Josh "Bam Bam" Beeman (4-11-3, 2 KOs) vs. Robert Hunt (0-2), of Hyannis (MA), Waterbury (CT) light welterweight Jair Ramos (2-0, 1 KO) vs. New Bedford's Joel Alarcon (0-2), Providence's Rameil Shelton (0-4) vs. Puerto Rican junior middleweight Jesus Cintron (0-1-1), and Cape Cod heavyweight Jesse Barboza (4-1-1, 3 KOs), of Hyannis (MA), vs. Salmon "Manos de Piedra" Beccera (2-5, 2 KOs).

Pawtucket lightweight prospect Toka Kahn-Clary, a 2010 National Golden Gloves champion who has signed a promotional deal with Top Rank, makes his much anticipated pro debut against Jonathan Caban (0-2) in a four-round match.  All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, reasonably priced at $35.00, $45.00 and $75.00, are available to purchase by calling 1.401.241.3490 (RI) or 1.617.312.5059 (MA), going on line atwww.bigsixentertainment, com or www.ticketmaster.com, and at the Rhode Island Convention Center box office.

Doors open at 6 PM/ET with the first bout scheduled for 7 PM/ET.
