(May 18, 2013) - Massachusetts defeated New York, 9-3, in tonight's Battle of the Badges 5 (BOB5) at Foxwoods Resort Casino, pitting law enforcement amateur boxing teams in a fundraising event.  New York holds a 3-2 advantage in the BOB series. "BOB5" was presented by National Public Safety Athletic League ("NPSAL") in association with Massachusetts Corrections Officers (MCO), Suffolk County Corrections Officers Association (SCCOA), and Foxwoods Resort Casino.  Trophies were presented for Fighter of the Night (Graham Trout vs. Terence Lyons), Fight of the Night (Ashley Moore), and Sportsman of the Night (David Salinas). The tournament, planned as an annual event, is scheduled to launch in April at a site to soon be determined. "The history of boxing is the heavyweight division and America is a big part of it," Elbaum said. "We weren't looking for ex-champions or highly-rated fighters. Not one of the fighters here is. I'll be the matchmaker; I'm picking the fights, no requests. I had this idea seven or eight months ago. Four months ago, I had discussions with some people and one person, Greg Sorrentino, said he'd back me because he believes we need this in the sport. He's a former professional heavyweight and now a very successful businessman." "I've been involved in various aspects of boxing, never on the promotional end before, but I'm excited," Sorrentino explained. "This is the greatest country in the world and we're going to help get an American heavyweight champion to rule the roost again." Elbaum said he has had discussions with several possible venues, including some casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, Turning Stone and Madison Square Garden, and that he's close to making a television deal. He also noted that 12 other heavyweights are in the running for the remaining two spots in the field, plus one reserve fighter, and $25,000 of the TGAHBO champion's purse will be donated to the winner's charity of choice. Also attending the press conference was Las Vegas legend Bill Krachenberger, who will set tournament odds on the individual fighters, as well as for all TGAHBO fights, to be offered at several Nevada sports books. The fighter demonstrating the most "heart" in tournament fights, excluding the TGAHBO champion, will be awarded the Gennaro Pellegrini Jr. Award. Pellegrini, a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, had a dream to fight at the famed Blue Horizon before being shipped out to Iraq for duty. PROVIDENCE (November 10, 2012) -- 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada (20-4, 6 KOs) won his fourth straight fight Saturday night with a fifth-round knockout of veteran heavyweight Galen "Bad Boy" Brown (38-21-1, 23 KOs) at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Estrada-Brown was the main event on the "Big Things" card, presented by Big Six Promotions. Estrada continued displaying improved punching power, dropping Brown in the fifth, and then finishing him off with a series of stiff punches until the referee halted the action. "I wanted to get that knockout," Estrada explained why he boxed less than normal. "I need knockouts. I've been sitting down more on my punches like my pops (father/trainer Roland Estrada) has been saying. I put the pressure on him. He was sticking his tongue out and doing other stuff like that, but I banged his body and then caught him. He was trying to hold my head down at the end when I caught him with some good shots. I'm not sure what's next. There's some talk going on and hopefully it'll be a big fight." The 2004 U.S. Olympian, fighting out of Providence, is preparing to headline the November 10th "Big Things" card at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. Today, Estrada is much different from the highly-decorated U.S. amateur boxer who turned professional nearly eight years ago. He has changed his style back to the way it was when he was boxing in the Junior Olympics, plus he's healthier than he's been at any time since his amateur days. "I sat down with my father (and head trainer Roland Estrada) and we changed my style a lot, back to what it was when I was fighting in the JO's," Estrada said. "When computer scoring came to the amateurs, I had to win points and did that by boxing. It was easy but that style doesn't work in the pros. I made a transition the past two years to sit on my punches and hurt guys. It just took a little time to get there. Everything was new for me when I turned pro. "I'm healthy now, too. Fighting as a pro, my body hurt all the time. I had elbow, foot and other issues that are all cleared up. I've become more patient, picking my shots better. I learned that boxing is a marathon, not a sprint, and I'm smarter today. I'm only fighting eight, 10 and 12 round fights now. "I'm not fighting past 35, so the clock's ticking, faster and faster. I'm waiting for my opportunity. It has to come before long. I've been working two years like this, staying busy and ready. Once I get that chance, I'm going to snatch it. Longtime Providence favorite Estrada faces veteran Galen "Bad Boy" Brown (38-20-1, 23 KOs) in the eight-round main event. Estrada has won his last three fights against Alex Gonzales, Dominique Alexander and Joseph Rabotte. Brown has been against former world champion Hasim Rahman, world title challenger Mariusz Wach, and former Russian titlist Andrey Fedosov. In the main event, Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence will face the experienced Dominick Guinn in a bout scheduled for ten rounds.

Lawrence, 18-2-2 with thirteen knokouts of Indianapolis, Indiana is the hottest Heavyweight in the country as he has won six straight bouts via knockout and hasn’t lost in over three years.

In this run of stoppages, Lawrence has defeated contenders Lance Whitaker (35-6-1), former U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada (16-3); Jason Gavern to win the WBC Caribbean championship and in his last bout he scored a seventh round stoppage over Homero Fonseca on September 8^th as part of the Andre Ward – Chad Dawson undercard in Oakland.

Guinn won his first twenty-four bouts and with wins over former world title challenger Michael Grant & Duncan Dokawari (22-1), Guinn was universally recognized as the top American Heavyweight.
