2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada PROVIDENCE (October 26, 2012) - Thirty-one-year-old Jason "Big Six" Estrada (19-4, 5 KOs) has been patiently waiting the past two years for his last shot at the big-time. The 2004 U.S. Olympian, fighting out of Providence, is preparing to headline the November 10th "Big Things" card at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. Estrada fights veteran Galen "Bad Boy" Brown (38-20-1, 23 KOs) in the eight-round main event, presented by Big Six Promotions, on the "Big Things" show featuring many of New England's favorite boxers. Estrada has won his last three fights against Alex Gonzales, Dominique Alexander and Joseph Rabotte, while the battle-tested Brown has fought former world champion Hasim Rahman, world title challenger Mariusz Wach, and former Russian titlist Andrey Fedosov. "I'm trying to work my way back into position for a big fight," Estrada explained. "It's a   lot better staying active instead of just training, which gets boring after a while. I'm hoping to get a call if an opponent falls out in a big fight or if somebody hears my name and he wants a challenge. I'm staying busy. I'm not in a situation where I can call the shots. Guys today pick their opponents, waiting to get a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers." Today, Estrada is much different from the highly-decorated U.S. amateur boxer who turned professional nearly eight years ago. He has changed his style back to the way it was when he was boxing in the Junior Olympics, plus he's healthier than he's been at any time since his amateur days. "I sat down with my father (and head trainer Roland Estrada) and we changed my style a lot, back to what it was when I was fighting in the JO's," Estrada said. "When computer scoring came to the amateurs, I had to win points and did that by boxing. It was easy but that style doesn't work in the pros. I made a transition the past two years to sit on my punches and hurt guys. It just took a little time to get there. Everything was new for me when I turned pro. "I'm healthy now, too. Fighting as a pro, my body hurt all the time. I had elbow, foot and other issues that are all cleared up. I've become more patient, picking my shots better. I learned that boxing is a marathon, not a sprint, and I'm smarter today. I'm only fighting eight, 10 and 12 round fights now. "I'm not fighting past 35, so the clock's ticking, faster and faster. I'm waiting for my opportunity. It has to come before long. I've been working two years like this, staying busy and ready. Once I get that chance, I'm going to snatch it. In a toe-to-toe battle between quick-handed Estrada (19-4, 5 KOs) and cagey southpaw Gonzales (20-7, 10 KOs), Providence heavyweight Estrada consistently beat Gonzales, a former world title challenger and 1992 Puerto Rican Olympian, to the punch. Estrada won all eight rounds on each of the three judges' scorecards by scores of 80-72. "I thought it was a good performance," Estrada said after the fight. "The dude can take a shot. Once I realized that he wouldn't go, I boxed his head off. I hurt my thumb a little in the second round, so I boxed and used my jab. "Next? If (Tony) Grano wants to fight, let's go. I've been trying to get him in the ring for a long time." The comeback of former USBA and NABO middleweight champion Brian "The Bull" Barbosa (31-6, 23 KOs), now fighting out of Providence, continued on a high note in the co-feature. The 31-year-old Estrada (18-4, 5 KOs), fighting out of Providence, faces 1992 Puerto Rican Olympian Alex Gonzales (20-6, 10 KOs) in the eight-round main event.  One of the most decorated amateur boxers in United States history, Estrada is coming off of arguably his most impressive performance last March, a stunning second-round knockout of veteran Dominque Alexander.  At the height of his career, to date, Estrada went the distance on the road in highly competitive fights with present World Boxing Association ("WBA") World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin, as well as two-time, two-division world champion  Tomasz Adamek.   Estrada's most notable victims have included Lance Whitaker, Derek Bryant, Charles Shufford and Zuri Lawrence.  Throughout his career, however, Jason was hampered by aggravating injuries to his elbow and ankle, which have been repaired through surgeries, allowing him to fight pain-free and putting him back in the heavyweight picture. "This is the first time I've been healthy since before the 2004 Olympic Games (he suffered from plantar fasciitis)," Estrada explained.  "It's made a huge difference for me, training and in fights.  I'm not worried anymore about hurting something.  Now, I'm throwing without recourse. Gonzales is an experienced southpaw who is a past United States Boxing Association heavyweight champion.  He has been in the ring with former world champion Vassiliy Jirov and world title challenger Calvin Brock. "I don't have problems fighting southpaws," Estrada said.  "I've beaten four or five as a pro and fought so many as an amateur.  In the early nineties, southpaw was the style of many International boxers. "I'm getting back to where I was.  I'm not there, yet, but I believe a big fight is on the horizon for me.  I just want to keep fighting and beat some big names.  I'm hoping to win a few titles and make some money before it's all over for me." PROVIDENCE (March 9, 2012) -- 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada made a strong statement in tonight's main event, knocking out veteran "Diamond" Dominique Alexander in the second round, at the Rhode Island Convention Center.



"Who's Next?" was presented by Big Six Entertainment.



Estrada (18-4, 5 KOs), fighting out of Providence, showed more power than he had in the past against veteran Alexander (22-14-1, 10 KOs).



Healthy for the first time in years, after undergoing surgery to his elbow and ankle, Estrada delivered pain instead of suffering from it. "I felt good and knew that I was in good shape," Jason said after the fight. "The big difference was the time between my last fight, December. That's the big thing, staying active. I was lifting weights a lot with my father and it showed tonight. I hit him with a short right and left as he was going down. He was a tough kid who kept trying."



Popular cruiserweight Rich Gingras (11-2, 7 KOs), one of the stars of The Contender IV, dropped Adam Harris (10-5, 7 KOs) with a left hook to the body for an exciting second-round knockout in the co-feature. An obviously pained Harris went down on one knee but was unable to beat the count. Gingras was fighting for the first time in 2-1/2 years.



Junior middleweight Dustin Reinhold (5-2, 2 KOs) won all four rounds from a game Jose Angel "Yayo" Ortiz (4-7-1, 1 KO). Super middleweight Joe Gardner (8-4-1, 1 KO) won a unanimous four-round decision against Rameil Shelton (0-4) in a spirited contest. Hometown favorite Kali Reis (4-1-1, 2 KOs) pitched a shutout against pro-debuting Marva Dash in a four-round junior middleweight bout.

PROVIDENCE (March 7, 2012) - 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada (17-4, 4 KOs) finds himself at the crossroads of his injury-plagued boxing career as he prepares to step into the ring Friday night in Providence against battle-tested veteran "Diamond" Dominique Alexander (22-13-1, 10 KOs) in the eight-round heavyweight bout headlining the "Who's Next?" card, presented by Big Six Entertainment, at the Rhode Island Contention Center.



Estrada, fighting out of Providence, remains one of the most decorated boxers in U.S. amateur history, a 2003 Pan-America Games gold medal winner who fought all over the world, including the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.



The 31-year-old Estrada won his first seven pro fights, until losing an eight-round majority decision on the road to Travis Walker. Estrada rebounded with eight straight victories against notables including Robert Hawkins, Charles Shufford, Lance Whitaker and Derek Byrant.



Estrada then traveled to Germany for a showdown against 2004 super heavyweight gold medalist and the present World Boxing Association ("WBA") heavyweight champion, Alexander Povetkin, who won a very competitive 10-round decision.



A win by seventh-round technical knockout of Zuri Lawrence followed, but then Estrada dropped back-to-back fights to former two-divisional, world champion Tomas Adamek by way of a close 12-round decision for the International Boxing Federation "(IBF") title, and Franklin Lawrence (TKO10) for the World Boxing Council ("WBC") Caribbean Boxing Federation belt.



Disappointed by the way Estrada was moved by his former promoters, coupled by injuries to his ankle and elbow that required surgery, Jason's father and head trainer, Roland Estrada, formed Big Six Entertainment to keep his son active in order to give him one last possible opportunity to make it to the top of the world.



Jason realizes that every fight is now the most significant of his career and each must-win situations. "I know I'm at the crossroads and need to win every fight," Jason said. "I don't have too much time left because I said I'd retire at 35. I have four years left. I want to stay active until I get into a perfect situation. I want to fight and always have but I didn't get the support I really needed from my former promoters, which is why my father started Big Six Entertainment. I'd love to finish-off my career with at least one heavyweight title fight worth enough money that will basically make me set for life. After I retire from boxing, I want to stay involved in the promotional end, helping with issues only a boxer knows."



The experienced Alexander has been in against world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs and reigning WBC cruiserweight titlist Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, 2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist and world title challenger Odlanier Solis, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Deontay Wilder, and world title challengers Cedric Boswell, Kali Meehan, and Fres Oquendo.



"Alexander has fought everybody," Estrada noted. "I respect him for that. But I'm still as quick as ever and I've learned to control my punches, especially my body work. I went back to my style when I was a young amateur - stopping guys - going to the body and then up to the head. I had to change in the amateurs (due to the points system) but now I'm back. I feel good. Nothing's wrong other than the usual aches and pains from fighting 24 years. Nothing serious, though, for the first time in years since surgery on my elbow and ankle for planter fasciitis."
