GARY SHAW SUPPORTS AUSTRALIAN BOXING COMMISSION

October 24, 2013 - Boxing promoter Gary Shaw who represents Australian fighters Daniel Geale and top contender Joel Brunker to name a few, is an avid supporter of promoting fights internationally, especially in Australia.

After a fight between Australian Anthony Mundine and American Shane Mosley was recently cancelled due to some controversy, Shaw had this to say about his dealings with the Australian boxing commission.

"Daniel Geale and Joel Brunker are two great fighters that I'm proud to say are part of our stable here at GSP. In all my dealings with the Australian boxing commission, I found them to be very honest and upright in every aspect of business.  I know Shane Mosley had some harsh words toward the Australian boxing scene and commission and he's entitled to his opinion, but I've always had a great deal of respect for everyone I've dealt with in Australia, including Bill Treacy, Garrie Francisco and Angelo DiCarlo to name a few."

Shaw went on to say, "Shane Mosley is a future Hall of Famer and I admire and respect him for all his accomplishments and dedication to our sport.  I don't know if Shane was dealing with the Australian commission directly or if it was the promoter that he had a problem with, but every time I did business in Australia, everyone got paid.  I'm proud to say I'll continue doing business in Australia and I find their commission to be straightforward, honest and truthful."

Cohen Congratulates WBA #3 Fletcher for Win Over Kanofski

Promoter Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions would like to congratulate Queensland, Australia's WBA #3 middleweight Jarrod "Left Jab" Fletcher (17-1, 10 KOs) for his wide unanimous decision over Tim Kanofski (12-7, 1 KO) at the Calabria club, in Melbourne, Australia last Friday.

Waiting patiently for his big opportunity, Fletcher controlled the action in a stay-busy matchup.

Cohen says his man is being talked about for a shot at the winner of the upcoming WBA championship fight between champion Gennady Golovkin and Curtis Stevens, scheduled for November 2 at Madison Square Garden.

"Jarrod Fletcher is in a position for several big fights right now and we'll be looking to get him into them as soon as possible," said Cohen. "Not only is he a strong possibility for the winner of Golovkin/Stevens, he's also got former champs Daniel Geale and Anthony Mundine for huge All-Australia showdowns. It's a good time to be Jarrod Fletcher right now."

PROMOTER VLAD WARTON BELIEVES EXPECTS MUNDINE – MOSLEY TO BE A RECORD SHATTERING EVENT IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (September 18, 2013)—On Wednesday night October 23rd, It will be an historic night of boxing at the Sydney Entertainment Center in Sydney, Australia when former three world champion Anthony Mundine (44-5, 26 KO’s) battles six-time world champion and future Hall of Famer “Sugar” Shane Mosley in a twelve round Jr. Middleweight bout for the WBA International championship.
The fight is promoted by Vlad Warton’s Millennium Events and Golden Boy Promotions.
Warton, who has promoted big fights all over the world, believes that this fight will be undoubtedly one of the biggest fights in the history of Australia.
That’s a big statement considering fights that fights such as the 1992 rematch between Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson as well as a fight that Warton promoted in 2003 between the great Kostya Tszyu and Jesse James Leija drew 40,000 spectators to the Telstra Dome in Melbourne
“This is a fight fan’s dream fight for Australia”, said Warton.
“Because of a legend like Shane Mosley, it will excite the fans of Australia.  Because of what he has done in his career, Mosley will have as much support as Mundine on October 23rd.  He has fought no one but the best and has beaten a lot of great fighters so to say Anthony has his work cut out for him is an understatement”
“Given the styles and Mosley’s championship experience, I would say he has an edge.”
The promoter points out there are similarities and the differences that will make this an interesting fight.
“While Mundine is slightly younger and taller, Mosley is stronger.  You have Mundine coming down from Middleweight and Mosley is coming up from Welterweight.  This fight considering the styles will provide huge excitement”
Not since Roy Jones Jr. fought Danny Green in 2009, has a fighter with the superstar pedigree of a Shane Mosley traveled to Australia for a big fight.
“This is a great opportunity to see someone as great as Shane Mosley on these shores.  He maybe 42 years old, but he is coming off a great win over a future world champion in Pablo Cesar Cano so we know he still has a ton of gas left in his tank”
Neither fighter can afford a loss at this stage in their career as it will be an extremely tough road back for the loser, yet the winner will get the opportunity for one more high profile fight.
“The winner will get a high profile fight back in the United States while the loser will go back to zero.  Anthony knows that this could be his last great opportunity. He is more mature and even though he is a three-time world champion, this could be a career defining fight.”
The fight will be televised via Pay Per View in Australia on Main Event and New Zealand on SKY Channel and tickets to the live event are $1000; $500; $200; $100 and $50
An American Television partner will be announced shortly.

DANIEL GEALE DEFENDS IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST DARREN BARKER

May 19, 2013 - Gary Shaw Productions in association with Grange Old School Boxing, Matchroom Boxing and Greg Cohen Productions are pleased to announce the finalization of a fight between two of the middleweight division's best and most exciting as IBF champion Daniel Geale (29-1, 15 KOs) has signed on to defend his title against highly regarded contender Darren Barker (25-1, 16 KO's).  The 12-round championship bout will take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on August 17, 2013. The event will be televised live on HBO BOXING AFTER DARK® beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Geale is fresh off of his redemption win over Anthony Mundine in their January rematch, while Barker has won 2 in a row since his KO loss in what was a very spirited effort against Sergio Martinez. Geale acknowledges that Barker is a tough challenge, but is quick to remind everyone that he has been matched tough for the past few fights in a row.  This will be the first time the Australian superstar has fought on American soil.

"Barker has to be one of the toughest opponents I've faced on paper, but I've been in the ring with world titlists and it remains to be seen whether or not Barker can offer up anything extra," said Geale. "He is a top rated fighter amongst 160 pounders, but in the middleweight division that's saying a lot because the entire division is dangerous. A guy in the top 10 at middleweight would be top 3-4 in almost any other division."

"Fighting in the United States for the first time is truly an honor." Geale continued. "I'm going to give the fans a great night of boxing while representing my country with dignity."

Geale mentioned that he hasn't thought much about a game plan for his opponent, but he will prepare accordingly. While he has yet to put together a strategy on Barker, Geale is familiar with his work, specifically against Martinez and he knows that the fighter that steps in the ring with will likely be better than the one that gave Martinez so much trouble.

"I'm going to have my hands full, that's for sure. Barker gave Martinez all sorts of fits, but he is an even better fighter now and I think he has improved a great deal since the Martinez fight. I'm not sure Martinez could beat Barker now, maybe Martinez planned on fighting Barker before he got too good? I want the fights that will give me the biggest challenges and I plan on handling Barker better than anyone has, it won't be easy but that's what I'll attempted to do," Geale said.

After suffering his first defeat to Sergio Martinez, Barker has bounced back with two consecutive knockout victories.  His quest to become a world champion is ever so close and he promises to bring the title back to the UK.

"This is a golden opportunity for me and I feel it's my time to shine," Darren Barker stated. "It's been a tough journey for me but I'm one fight away from realizing my dream and becoming World Champion. I've dedicated my entire life to this sport and since the Sergio Martinez fight I really feel like I've grown as a fighter. I can't wait to bring that IBF World title back to the UK."

Gary Shaw is excited about this fight and he knows that it has huge implications for the division.

"This is a fight that separates the good from the great, the great from the elite. This division is so good that everywhere you look you see tough fights, but Daniel could've taken an easier fight, there are easier fights out there compared to Barker but Daniel wanted this fight. The winner will be in a position to be considered the best middleweight out there," Shaw said.

"It's always exciting when world class boxers accept a fight without hesitation, as was the case for this bout," said Garrie Francisco of Grange Old School Boxing. "Daniel has been keen to make a stateside debut for many years, to be defending his crown on a HBO card is the perfect beginning. A healthy sporting rivalry has existed between our countries (Australia/England) for 130 years.  We would like to thank H.B.O., Gary Shaw and Eddie Hearn for their roles in cementing an opportunity to give fans a fight that will be remembered."

Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn is confident his fighter will be victorious.

"Not everyone knows the story about Darren Barker but those that do understand it when I say that few deserve this more," said Eddie Hearn. "This is the fight that Darren wanted so badly and now he's got it. This is a wonderful fight between two incredibly gifted Middleweights, it's a pure 50-50 fight and I know Darren is going to bring it home."

"HBO has been a great supporter of bringing international champions to the United States to showcase their talents.  I want to thank Ken Hershman, Kerry Davis, Peter Nelson and the entire staff at HBO for being the pioneers in this area.  I know Geale and Barker are very appreciative for this wonderful opportunity." Gary Shaw concluded.

Kimbo Slice on Mundine vs. Geale 2 Undercard

January 18, 2013 - Gary Shaw Productions, in association with Grange Old School Boxing and Black Venom Promotions, are pleased to announce a heavyweight showdown on the undercard to the Mundine vs. Geale world title fight at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, on Wednesday, January 30.

Cult sensation Kimbo Slice, will put his devastating punching power to the ultimate test when he squares off with QLD Heavyweight champion Shane Tilyard.

Kimbo Slice is no stranger to knocking people out.  He's known around the world for his brute strength and granite chin as well as his amazing punching power.  One thing you can count on, Kimbo Slice is coming to fight!

"Tilyard thinks he's been in the ring with tough guys but he's never been in there with a monster like me," stated Kimbo Slice. "He better be ready because I'm coming to knock his head off and show the fans of Australia who the real KO King is."

Tilyard overcame some formidable opposition including former kickboxing world champion Nathan 'Carnage' Corbett and NRL star turned boxer John Hopoate to claim the KO Kimbo competition and earn the right to fight former UFC star Kimbo Slice.

The 27 year-old from Brisbane is a knock-out specialist, setting the scene for what is certain to be one of the most explosive heavyweight bouts ever seen on Australian shores.

All six of Tilyard's professional wins have come by way of knock out, including a stunning demolition of former Australian Heavyweight champion Colin Wilson last year.

"I've been training the house down since I heard about this competition and I'm delighted to be given the opportunity to show Kimbo a thing or two about fighters in Australia".  Tilyard said.

"Kimbo has a big reputation, but he has never fought anyone in a backyard, Octagon or boxing ring that has my power."

"I've seen his clips on You Tube and I can tell you there will be another one very soon of me putting Kimbo on his backside once and for all".

Today's announcement rounds out a blockbuster card that will feature some of the most exciting prospects in Australian boxing.

Undefeated cruiserweight David Aloua will square off with Newcastle's Daniel Aman for the Australian Cruiserweight Title.

Unbeaten contender, Joel Brunker will look to continue his rapid rise up the Featherweight rankings when he takes on Mexican Joksan Hernandez.

Former world title contender Jamie Pittman looks set for an epic showdown with Zak Awad, Cowra'sSteve Lovett will do battle with Joel Casey in a light heavyweight contest while Lauryn Eagle will round out the card when she takes on Nadine Browne.

Daniel Geale, Kimbo Slice and Joel Brunker are all promoted by Gary Shaw and are guaranteed to bring the fans to their feet with their electrifying  styles.

Tickets for Mundine v Geale II are still available through www.ticketmaster.com.au

MAIN EVENT will broadcast the entire card live and exclusive from 7:30pm AEDT.  Book now through www.mainevent.com.au

GARY SHAW RESPONDS TO MUNDINE'S RANTS

November 20, 2012 - IBF middleweight champion, Daniel "Real Deal" Geale (28-1, 15 KOs), and Anthony Mundine (44-4, 26 KOs) will square off in a highly anticipated rematch on January 30, 2013.  Both fighters hail from Australia, but one has stated his reasoning on why he's going to lose.

That fighter is Anthony Mundine, who recently came out and said that Geale's international promoter, Gary Shaw, and his relationship with the IBF is the reason he might lose this fight.

American Promoter Gary Shaw weighs in on Mundine's recent rants saying, "Anthony Mundine is coming up with every excuse on why he's going to lose his fight with Daniel.  This obviously shows me he is lacking confidence in his ability to beat Geale.  Just because I promote shows internationally, doesn't mean I'm always on the winning end of each fight.  This man is clearly delusional and I believe reality is starting to set in about Geale being a different fighter this time around.  He knows he's in for a long night."

In 2009, Geale suffered his first loss when Mundine defeated him by way of a razor close split decision. Since then, Geale has become a two-time world champion, winning twice on German soil against Sebastian Sylvester (34-5-1, 16 KOs) and Felix Sturm (36-3-2, 16 KOs). Geale has stepped up his game since he last fought Mundine, and Gary Shaw knows this.

"Mundine is in trouble," said Gary Shaw. "Daniel Geale is a much improved fighter since they last met and the world will see a major shift on how this fight is going to play out.  He can say all he wants about the judging in this fight, but what he needs to be worried about is getting off the canvas."

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten has extended an invitation to all Northern Tasmanians to attend the ceremony. The presentation will begin at 12.00 noon in the Brisbane Street Mall with a parade led by The City of Launceston RSL Band.

The parade will leave the Brisbane Street Mall and proceed north along St John Street to Civic Square, where the Key to the City will be presented on the Town Hall steps.  Geale will follow the parade in a vehicle provided by the Jackson Motor Company.

"The Key to the City is an honor which recognizes the contribution of individuals, groups or organisations, or outstanding achievements in sport, entertainment, and humanitarian work at a national or international level," Mayor van Zetten said. World Title and W.B.A. World Super champion title. I am hopeful that lots of people will turn out tomorrow to see the presentation to Daniel."

"Its a great honor to be receiving such a prestigious award," said Daniel Geale. "I'm humbled by the situation and I want to thank the people of Launceston and Mayor Albert van Zetten for all their support.  Come January 30th, when I step in the ring with Anthony Mundine, I'll be fighting for the people of Launceston and all my fans around the world."

"Daniel is a very special person inside and outside of the ring," Promoter Gary Shaw stated. "He's well deserving of this presentation and the residents of Launceston have a great champion to look up to.  Geale is the perfect role model for the sport of boxing and he should be recognized as such.  I'm happy for him and his family."

Following the presentation Daniel will be in Civic Square ready to sign autographs and meet fans.

team-mundine-logo-b.pngGary Shaw LogoGrange Logo

November 13, 2012 - Gary Shaw Productions, in association with Grange Old School Boxing and Black Venom Promotions, are happy to announce the date and location for the epic IBF Middleweight championship bout between Daniel "Real Deal" Geale (28-1, 15 KOs) and Anthony Mundine (44-4, 26 KOs).  The Sydney Entertainment Centre in Australia will host the larger-than-life rematch on January 30, 2012.

"In all my years in boxing, this is the biggest fight in Australian boxing history and we are delighted to be able to bring it to Sydney," said Gary Shaw. "This city has a proud history of staging big fights and let me assure you they don't get bigger than this. Daniel Geale is considered to be, by many, one of the best Middle Weights in the World, after winning 2 World Titles from German Fighters on German soil.  Daniel is desperate to avenge his controversial loss to Mundine in 2009."

"For Mundine, this is an opportunity to not only claim a fourth world title, but also put on a show for the millions of fans who will be watching this fight around the globe. This is a once in a life time fight that will captivate not only fans in Sydney, but across Australia and the rest of the world. I'd like to thank Destination NSW for their support in bringing this fight to Sydney and look forward to working together to ensure the event becomes a truly memorable sporting event."

"I'm happy we are able to move forward with the promotion now that we have a date and venue sorted," said Daniel Geale. "The Sydney Entertainment Centre is a fantastic place to hold this fight.  The whole country is talking about this fight and I can't wait to put Mundine in his place after all the trash talking he's been doing. I encourage everyone to get their tickets now because January 30th will be a night to remember."

"This fight is going to be a blockbuster event for the people of Australia and I'm expecting an explosive night of boxing," said co-manager Garrie Francisco. "My partner Bill Treacy and I are excited to be part of this historic event."

Today's announcement marks a homecoming for Anthony Mundine, who returns to his 'spiritual home' for the eighth time as a professional.

"I've had some of my best fights in this venue and I can't wait to get back here again on January 30" Mundine said.  "I made my pro debut and won my first world title here, it's a special place for me and in January I'm going to write another chapter in my legacy by stopping Daniel Geale."

DANIEL "REAL DEAL" GEALE REFLECTS ON WBA SITUATION

November 1, 2012 - After being stripped by the WBA for taking the Anthony Mundine fight, Australian middleweight champion, Daniel "Real Deal" Geale (28-1, 25 KOs) reflects on the decision made by the sanctioning organization.

"Whilst I enjoyed unifying titles and being crowned the WBA super champion it has become ultimately clear to me that it is impossible to keep all the belts," said Daniel Geale. "I am aware of my mandatory obligations, however I felt that the challenge from Anthony Mundine was an opportunity to settle the score once and for all, and I want to thank the IBF for granting me the exception that creates a fight which will please all Australian boxing fans.

"As I proudly remain the I.B.F. World champion, I wish the WBA and whoever they crown the same short lived pleasure as I will be coming to reclaim what is rightfully mine."

DANIEL GEALE & ANTHONY MUNDINE BATTLE IN HIGHLY ANTICIPATED REMATCH

GEALE'S IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE ON THE LINE

October 16, 2012 - Gary Shaw Productions has been granted an "Exception to Regulations" by the IBF on behalf of unified IBF/WBA middleweight champion, Daniel "Real Deal" Geale (28-1, 15 KOs), to participate in an optional IBF world title fight against Anthony Mundine (44-4, 26 KOs) prior to his mandatory defense.

"Now that we got the green light from the IBF to make this fight, I'm going to work hard to get everything completed," said promoter Gary Shaw. "This might be the biggest fight in Australian boxing history as both fighters consider this a grudge match."

Geale tasted defeat for the first and only time when these two fighters faced each other back in May of 2009.  Geale lost a controversialsplit decision and he's looking to set the record straight once and for all.

"When Mundine and I first fought, I thought my hands were going to be raised after the fight," said Daniel Geale. "It was close but I thought I was the better man that night.  I've always wanted revenge against Anthony, and now  I have the opportunity thanks to my promotional teams Grange Old School Boxing and Gary Shaw Productions."

"Bill Treacy and Garrie Francisco have done an outstanding job of leading my team to where I am today, and the addition of international promoter Gary Shaw, was brilliant as you can see by my two wins in Germany.  Team Geale defines the word team."

Geale's managers comment on this highly anticipated rematch.

"Anthony should go in to hiding, Daniel will embarrass him" said co-manager Garrie Francisco.

"It's time for Daniel to put an end to the circus" stated Bill Treacy.

Mundine is a three time world champion and has gone (19-1) in his last twenty bouts and is currently riding a 4-fight winning streak. He captured the vacant WBA World super middleweight title against Sam Soliman in March of 2007 when he knocked him out in the 9th round.  A year later, Mundine was victorious in the rematch winning a 12-round unanimous decision in May of 2008.  Mundine is the only fighter in the history of boxing to have every fight on pay-per-view.

"This is a fight that all of Australia has wanted to see and I'm glad it has finally come together."  Mundine said. "I always said Daniel would be a world champion if he didn't have to fight me and that has proven to be the case.  People are saying he is the best middleweight in the world, but he is not even the best middleweight in Australia.  I beat him once and I'll do it again."

Daniel Geale is unbeaten in his last seven bouts and is coming off an incredible triumph victory over, Felix Sturm (37-3-2, 16 KOs), a fight that took place in Sturm's native land of Germany. This was the second time Geale defeated a German fighter on their home soil, having previously dethronedSebastian Sylvester in May of 2011.

Geale's trainer, Graham Shaw of Grange Old School Boxing, is confident that Daniel will be successful in their rematch with Mundine.

"Daniel is fighting at an incredible level these days.  We never look past the next fight and for this bout we will be extremely focused.  In the first fight with Mundine our preparation was solid and I thought we won." said Graham Shaw.  "Since that decision went against us we have moved on and successfully campaigned against the best fighters in the business and I expect Daniel to win the rematch as he has improved 200% and Anthony has not.  Daniel now has two world titles and we will not leave this fight in the hands of the judges."

Mundine is trained by his father, Tony, and he believes his son is prime and ready to take on Geale.

"Anthony has been working away at junior middleweight but this is a fight that can't be ignored," Anthony's father and trainer Tony Mundine said. "He loves the big fights and I know that when the bell rings for round one, my boy will be ready to go."

Both fighters hail from Australia and this long awaited rematch is sure to draw a huge attendance, as the last fight was staged at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Boondall, Queensland, Australia, and drew over 10,000 fans.

The bout between both indigenous Australian fighters, Geale and Mundine, will be available on Pay Per View.  Gary Shaw will be having discussions with Anthony Mundine and Team Geale as to the official host site of this event.

A formal press conference featuring both fighters will be held in Sydney, Australia, on Thursday, October 18 AEDT.  Both fighters will be available for interview and photo opportunities.  Details of this press conference will be announced in the coming days.

This event will be a promotion between by Grange Old School BoxingGary Shaw Productions and Black Venom Promotions.
